Egg drop soup is gluten freeeee
    Elisabeth P.

I was really pleasantly surprised on my visit here. I thought for sure I would be watching everyone else eat and I'd be out of luck. There was a server who was brought over to speak with me since her English was excellent. She knew exactly what gluten was and what I could have. The sauce is a garlic white sauce and I could pick whatever wasn't fried to have them put it on. I ordered the cashew chicken and it with the sauce was delicious. The egg drop soup was also gluten free and very good. My coresidents all enjoyed their meals as well. Atmosphere is pretty traditional for Chinese dining with a lot of decorations with red and gold, dragons, and those great Chinese astrology place mats. Everyone was very friendly, food came out quickly and was a large portion, and price was very reasonable. I'll definitely be stopping by here again sometime soon.

Check your food carefully before you swallow, as mine contained a long sharp object. The food is good, but not the same as the original owners. I miss the oriental vegetables, now they use peas and carrots.

    Burnt greasy "shrimp toast"

We just ordered delivery tonight and I was surprised it was at my door in 18 minutes! However when I opened the food the first thing I noticed is the shrimp toast was burnt, and completely grease soaked. The potstickers had a thick rubbery skin and the filling with a stiff off tasting meatball. The egg drop soup had so much canned corn in it that was all I could taste. The Lo Mein was pretty good, and my husband liked his beef & broccoli. I work food service and very rarely complain bc I understand that things happen and sometimes a person may just not like certain foods, but this was such a huge disappointment I felt compelled to share. $30 later and half of it is going in the trash...

I am honestly surprised by the bad reviews because this place is AMAZING. I grew up eating Chinese food (I'm ethnically Chinese) so looking for an authentic Chinese place in the Midwest has been such a challenge. I thought I'd never find one but Imperial Palace is truly the real deal. Their food is always on point and delivery is fast with a reasonable price too. I love this place! It's my go-to Chinese restaurant.

It's eclectic and book-ish, with shelves lining the walls and cocktails inspired by favorites! There was a good mix of tables and space to mingle. It was great for the type of event we were at. I'd love to come back again sometime. I was also very happy to see a mocktail menu and am glad many places are moving in that direction. For my mocktail, I tried the Practical Magic (lavendar, house sour, orange bitters), and it was delicious - almost like a sparkling lavendar lemonade. I wish I could have tried the Secret Garden (prickly pear, lime, orange), but they were out of the tequila alternative, and I hadn't thought to sub in real tequila at the time. For my cocktail, I tried the Lavendar and Lace, mostly because I was intrigued by the egg white foam. This is a gorgeous drink to look at and equally to enjoy. It's a bit sweet for my usual liking, but it was delicious none the less.

Our large ribeye--which we shared--was half solid fat--I'm not kidding, solid fat. The leaner half was tough and stringy, with long threads of sinew so much so that we could not chew it after barely being about able to cut it. They replaced it with a fillet that was also tough, much less tender than the cheapest steak at Texas Roadhouse. We could not finish this steak, either. A restaurant like this is not solely about calories and carbs, nor even taste. It about having an experience. Our anniversary was far less than we expected...it was destroyed. The manager did not charge us for the ribeye and gave us a discount for fillet. Got that? A DISCOUNT for a fillet we could not finish. If this were my restaurant, I would have charged us for nothing. This was a major failing not a minor disappointment. I would have frozen our steaks to show them to the meat supplier, and I would have demanded from him the cost to my restaurant instead of shifting part of the cost to my upset patron. As time passes I'm upset with myself for not suggesting comping this bill. As it was, this disappointing experience cost me over $100. BUT, I'd like to add that Brooks is just about the finest waitress one can imagine. They are lucky to have her.
