The small class sizes and engaging activities are perfectly suited to both the educational and recreational needs of preschoolers. Weekly library time is a highlight, and the My Afternoon Out program is a great help to parents who occasionally need some extra childcare.

The kindergarten program is approved by the Maryland State Board of Education. Havenwood also provides full time, early bird, half day, and late afternoon child care. The various programs are designed to meet the needs of children between the ages of two and six years old. Havenwood classes are not in session during summer months. We do offer a summer camp for the month of June. Our goal is to create a child- centered program geared to increasing awareness, encouraging a positive self-concept, and instilling a love of learning through the child's own creations, imagination, and thoughts. Equal importance is given to social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth. This is accomplished in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where each member of the staff has a true love for children and the desire to open the world of knowledge to them. Preschool classes and extended care options are available. Call or email for more information.

When my child made statements of discouragement in learning new concepts they did not work to assure her but lacked patience took these comments as a lack of desire to learn. Jim Trexler is dismissive and often times combative in emails when younger children don't meet his mark when working to master new concepts. Upon joining the center my husband and I explained to Mr. Trexelr that my older child need homework help because she was having trouble grasping Math concepts with her current math teachers style and he agreed that he and his staff could help keep her on track during the school year and make sure she kept developing her math skills. After joining Jim sent constant emails complaining that she only wanted to work on homework while at the center and finished minimal worksheets and was not meeting the mark for him to run his business. It did not matter that she needed to keep up with her academically rigorous curriculum at school. He was also upset that she came in to study after her games or practices and felt she was focusing more on sports than her academics as a whole because she was not completing his quota of worksheets. Overall, if you have a young child that actually needs to become more confident in math concepts and needs a bit of hand holding and encouragement this is not the place. Get them a workbook and a one on one tutor to help build their skills. And if you have an older child that you want to get math help and reinforcement of concepts that they are learning, this is not the place, because they want you to do worksheets the entire time you are there which may not be related in anyway to the concepts that the child is learning at that particular time.

I can honestly say I brag more about my High School then I do my college loyalties. The teachers are personable and of high caliber, the facilities are some of the best and for the cost of a private education in the mid Atlantic, you are getting an extreme value. I grew up in Harford County and didn't grow up around the most diverse community and what I experienced in my 4 years there has carried me through to success both personally and professionally that I want my children to experience in the near future. Not just as a graduate of the school but as a leader of people and someone who has a passion for improving and enriching people's lives. If you want your son to get started in the right direction before college this is an investment that can never have a value placed on it.

Upper class Students received a late night email on a Saturday that they had to move out then next day due to a problem. The students in apartments with kitchens and private bathrooms were being moved into deplorable conditions of a building that was closed last year for mold. The community co-ed bathroom has rat traps set everywhere and the shower stalls have rust on the soap dishes. The rooms smell terrible of mold and are very tiny.

We saw El Otro Oz: A Bilingual Musical at the Mildred Dunnock Theatre. It was thoroughly enjoyable and the actors were truly amazing and professional. The students that went were part of our newcomer program which means they have been in the country just over a year. While many speak Spanish and laughed at much of the dialogue, the students from other countries enjoyed this musical variation of the Wizard of Oz. I know I did! It was spring break for Goucher students, so the campus was quite deserted. The production company that put on the show travels to various locations in Maryland. It took us almost an hour to arrive, but well worth the drive (we had charter buses, so comfort was key). I hope we get to see another show next year.
