In a word magical…read more I've never witnessed such happy engaged kids. Nor such knowledgeable and enthusiastic teachers. It's what we always wanted for our child but didn't think existed in this area. We are so lucky to have found this place.

Our family's experience with Montclair Cooperative School was devastating. After touring and being…read moreassured that our son -- a twice-exceptional, academically gifted child on the Autism spectrum -- could be supported, we submitted his records. Almost immediately, the admissions office reversed course and told us they would not move forward with his application because of his disability, saying he would be "better served" in public school. His academic strengths and test scores were ignored. This is not just disappointing, it is discriminatory. The school has accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxpayer-funded grants and forgivable loans, which means it is legally bound under the ADA, Section 504, IDEA, and the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination to provide equal access. Instead, it shut the door on our son because of his diagnosis. We pursued every available appeal, including with the State of New Jersey. Even though the state acknowledged the facts, they declined to pursue the case further -- not because discrimination wasn't present, but because they lacked confidence in prevailing in court. Families should know that if your child has a disability, this school may exclude them rather than work with you. For a school that markets itself as progressive and community-oriented, our experience was the opposite. Parents of neurodiverse children: proceed with extreme caution.

I graduated…read morein 2008 and the mockrey I have ever received in this miserable dumb of teacher's and students were the most horrible. I cannot in a million of my year's they are still running because of the bullying, harassment, and intimidation I've ever received in this terrible way the teachers work. All my life even, when I've graduate. They have all wished the worst in me and let alone the deaths of my family members which, Thanks too a students and most of these teachers they've received there calling. when this happened in COVID-19 mostly I felt disgusted, full of agony, guilt, anger towards myself, anti-social towards society and most disgusted with my feelings of horror towards myself. I felt finished with my life. It became a horror show to me. what I've learned too depend on me, my feelings in me, resolve my issues alone in the best way I can, Be me, I am me, a human being with talents and is important in the world. These teachers and students mocked me, called me the r word even the f word. This wasn't right for me. The popular people got lucky here and got great opportunities in life while the stupid people like me got scolded and said I will always fail in my life and die like a rat. I never liked this school not, even the students and teachers who mocked me. I know they got scared and most went to another job. This is wrong and they continue there abuse in other areas. The teachers and students I don't know if I can say it here were starting with teachers they were Karen Wildt, Ophelia Pickett, Chris a gym teacher was there for a time, Debbie Strazza, Nona, Bernesby, Shaila Mitchell , Laura Mallet, Maryann Paris, Debbie Eustis, Patty Schmidt, Emmanuel Justin, Kristin Griffin a student teacher in seton hall, other student teachers from that miserable school also, Annalee I don't remember her last name, Leonora Mitchelle, Wendy Lieberman Clara Robinson and others I don't remember. The students were Jessica Maldonado, Elizabeth Robinson, Sara Gutierrez, Bobby Stephans, Dalis Romero, Jeanette Irazarry, Martin Mayer, Leo Sciarra, Alan Chadwick, Amornina Stephans, Damien and Robert Malave, Richard Nieves, shaniqua Norman, Naydelina Garcia, Norma and Rosanna Walcheski, Sara Warren, Marie Doctor, Milly Checo, Yohanna Made, Jonathan Maldonado a student, Ají Varujese, Jonson Phillipe, Stanley Ruiz, Mark Faranda, Quran Tinsley, Robert Pavlenko, Jason Speer minus his brother, Shanice Belenski was the most hateful towards me and many more I don't remember. I want this a lesson from anyone who suffered bullying. It is wrong. We all deserve too be who we are. We are unique and a talent that is different to anyone who is looking for jealousy towards another because of their problems. We all deserve too be a place for everyone too share our thoughts and opinions too be there for one another, be kind, love other's, help them in need. Not like what they've done. All it's about business and financiAl profits. A business I'm referring. life is about kindnes not like they did. I never in my life want too meet or talk to the one's who put me down in life. They deserve better and love. Also, never want too see these teachers anywhere in my sight for what they've done in my life. I prefer too be with myself and my dog. My dog is my number 2 and God number 1 in life. I live and learn not like what they've done to me which, using me. I don't recommend Deron in my opinion for what they've caused in me. AVOID THIS SCHOOL FOR MY SAKE!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S NOTHING WHAT I'M COMPARING IN MY LIFE NOW WHICH IS COMPASSION!!!!!!!!!!! AVOID DERON I DON'T RECOMMEND!!!!!!!!!!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This school's policies are completely and utterly unreasonable. There are about 180 days in a…read moreschool year, yet you get detention on the 6th day you are late. You cannot be absent more than 5 days per marking period or a total of 18 days per year. Mind you, a marking period is about 2 or 2.5 months. They do not care about the students at all. The administration has all these expectations for the kids. They don't even care if these rigorous standards stress them out to the point where they have breakdowns in class. I remember walking in the hall and seeing someone on the floor. My friend and I walked up to them and ask them if they were ok. The kid got up and said "I'm just mentally not okay and I fell and I didn't feel like getting up". We offered to take him to the nurse, but he insisted on not taking him because he did not want to deal with the harsh consequences. The administration and their rules and standards make kids feel this way and they don't care at all. You get detentions after 6 lates and 18 absences, but they do nothing to fix the reason why students are late. There is only one way to get into the school in the morning. Every morning, there is traffic because of all the cars trying to squeeze into the one entrance. But they blame lates on the students, not on the fact that there is traffic or that some students have to come from far away. They do not try to help the students, they only punish them and expect to fix their actions in order to avoid future punishments. Numerous studies have found that punishment is not that effective, yet it is their way of dealing with everything. And there is nothing that parents or students can do if they have a problem because they do not take it seriously. So many students have gone to Mr. Rotella regarding teachers and policies, but he basically just tells them that that is the way it is and they should suck it in. Why? Because the administration only cares about the students following the rules because they want to make them look good compared to PCTI. Their AP classes are a joke. Half of the teachers do not know what they're doing. While there are some good teachers in the school, a lot of them are just terrible. But the biggest thing is the favoritism and racism that is in this school. The school places so much emphasis on the football team, even though they aren't that good. Twice a year, they take students out of 8th period and force them to sit in the gym to praise the football team and cheerleaders. Not only that, but the VP, Mr. Settembre is racist. The students and teachers know it. He gives harsher punishments to Arabics, Hispanics, and Blacks. Whether you are a good student or not, if you're a minority, he has no mercy. He does not care about the reason why you got in trouble or what the circumstances were. If a student talked back to a teacher, whether that teacher insulted the student or started an argument with them, the student was blamed and punished for standing up for themselves (and yes this has happened before. What amazing teachers!) And another thing about the administration, they have no interest in any of their students unless they are troublemakers. Mr. Rotella and Mr. Settembre do not recognize any of the scholars at PV, but they are quick to recognize any troublemakers. In addition, they do not value the opinion of students. If you disagree with a teacher or refuse to follow their orders (whether they are right or wrong), you can get suspended for that. So if a teacher tells you to jump off a bridge, you better do it or else you'll get detention! They don't ask students how they could make the school better. And God forbid you rebel. I remember my sophomore year, some students were sitting outside of PV to rebel against them. What happened? They were all suspended and seniors were not allowed to walk at graduation. If you are planning to attend PV, I suggest to apply to PCTI or Paramus Catholic or any other school. The PV administration just does whatever they want to do. The administration for the most part is racist. They don't listen to students and they always protect the teachers whenever a student has a problem with teachers. This is not "the place to be" as they claim. They do not allow growth for students. The administration is stubborn and reluctant to change any of their absurd policies. PV is not a high school that prepares students for real life. They teach them to blindly obey rules without questioning and they teach you that there are no second chances in life (even though there are). They teach you that it is not okay to speak your mind when something is wrong. And most importantly, they teach you to put your head down and not speak up because you are only a student and students don't know any better. Despite what their social media claims, PV is NOT the place to be.
