Saw interstellar here a few weeks ago and it was truly amazing and probably one of the best movie experiences I have had. It truly felt like I was there in the movie with how good the sound was I'd highly recommend going here when a movie you are interested in is playing 5/5 stars would recommend read more

Loved this place every time we've gone. Clean. Friendly staff. Great gift shop. There is an elevator available for those who can't or don't want to climb the many stairs here. Everyone should enjoy a 3D movie here. Definitely worth fighting the downtown traffic and limited parking spaces. read more

IMAX 3D Theater - Huge place - Cinema Near Me - Chattanooga, Tennessee

Great place to view any high tech movie Seats reserved on line so you can see exactly where you and everyone else is sitting. Huge selection of drinks, snacks and food. Parking is a snap in the huge lot as the anchor tenant is gone from the mall. We saw Dune and loved the movie and the experience read more

I love coming to the IMAX for big movie releases like Top Gun, Jurassic Park, and Indiana Jones. Nothing beats the big screen and IMAX sound. 3-D movies are awesome here. I find the concession packages to be decently priced compared to other movie theaters, though concessions are overpriced everywhere. Best place to sit in the theatre is the center of the back 2 rows because you're dead center of the screen. The only thing I wish is that they had some upgraded seating like the newer theatres have with recliners and temperpedic seats to make it more comfortable. read more

Very disappointed. We thought we were getting the imax experience to only discover that our move was just a regular movie. Their advertising didn't indicate that. The person at the ticket box couldn't tell us if it was 3D when we asked. We could have go to the Majestic 12 and saved $2 per ticket and had cheaper concessions with refills. read more

Did you know there are less than 100 IMAX laser projectors in the entire world? Chattanooga is home to one of them and this experience is amazing. I enjoy the movie experience in general. It goes up a notch when I walk into an IMAX theater. I am always impressed when I need to move my head around to see the entire movie screen in front of me. IMAX envelopes me into the film and the images are spectacular. Now take that up another notch. A 3D experience that surrounds and pulls me into each moment with almost surreal images really gets the blood pumping. Most of the TN Aquarium movies run 45 min and are focused on a good message regarding the world around us. We've had the pleasure of seeing space, oceans, and backyard nature in IMAX 3D and never disappointed. I highly recommend the experience anytime you get a chance! read more

The theatre is beautiful and the workers are nice and helpful. They have a garden you can walk outside in while waiting for your movie to start. There's also a place to try virtual reality in their lobby. You have to pay for it-and I didn't do it because I'm super sensitive to motion sickness-but my friends did it and said it was awesome. The IMAX theatre is gigantic! The screen is huge and has a really beautiful picture. We saw The Great Barrier Reef and we loved it! I was hoping it wouldn't make me dizzy-and it didn't! We will most definitely be going back to this theatre read more

Nice clean theater with 3 choices of movies to view. Currently (Oct 2019) they are movies about : Volcanoes Coral reefs "Super" dogs (trained to help people) The movies last about an hour. 3-D glasses are used to make the movies more realistic. Tickets are available at the door or at the Aquarium. The rumor was that the sound system Is at its best in the center of the theater, about row 5 or row 6. We were seated about there and the sound was good. read more

IMAX 3D Theater - Never going to come back here I walked in seemed ok at first but then I got into the theater and disgusting - Cinema Near Me - Chattanooga, Tennessee

Great 3D Entertainment Came in for their 6 o'clock showing on a weekday night. Hurricane 3D The film was really well made. The whole time I was watching I kept asking myself how they were able to capture some of the shots they did. I mean they were able to capture the impact of a hurricane from the perspective of a stick insect. Talk about a micro - viewpoint The IMAX screen and surround sound made for a badass experience. It was only $8 extra with the purchase of an Aquarium of Tennessee ticket. Normally I get motion sickness from 3D films, so I was hesitant to go. But I'm so glad I did. Food - Disgusting story alert. I considered ordering popcorn but when I saw what I saw... I just couldn't The concessions attendant put BACK a bag of popcorn that had been physically touched by the customer ahead of me to check for temperature difference between the two popcorn bags he was about to buy. Gross! Overall Recommendation Skip the popcorn, catch a film, and you'll have a great time. read more

PLEASE DONT ALLOW KIDS UNDER 4 INTO AN IMAX THEATER!!!!! I love this IMAX theater, but screaming infants ruined the last show that I saw there. I expect kids and families, but screaming infants and 2 year olds chattering away? Staff needs to monitor entitled parents that think it is okay to sit there while their crying kids ruin the show. They need to exit the theater or designate kids under 4 years of age to special shows that won't scare toddlers and infants. This IMAX theater would really rock if they stayed open for evening shows for the adult crowd. read more

I visited the Tennessee Aquarium's IMAX theater with some friends after visiting the Aquarium. Usually this IMAX theater only shows 40-45 minute educational fare in conjunction with the Aquarium. Current features are "Under the Sea 3D" and "African Adventure 3D". Occasionally, this IMAX theater does show a real feature film... we came to see the latest Star Trek on this six story tall screen! With only one theater, they don't have much time between clearing out the last show and seating for this show... so you do a lot of standing in line, waiting to go into the theater. They tell you they begin seating 15 minutes prior to the movie... it's actually more like 5 minutes prior to the movie. Hopefully you didn't consume all your snacks waiting in line, because for the 7 pm Star Trek show, they closed the concession stand at 7:01. I'm a big guy, and the seats were a little "cozy" for me. I prefer the seating of newer theaters where I have a little bit more room to spread out (or raise an armrest). So I wound up leaving an empty seat between me and my friend so that we both would be comfortable through the movie. Something I didn't notice right away, is that also, being a tall guy, my knees were jammed up against the back of the chairs in front of me... about halfway through the movie that started to become uncomfortable. The screen is huge and the sound system is pretty good. I heard in the cheesy "Welcome to IMAX" skit that the screen is nearly as wide as a basketball court. Or that you could fit a life-sized adult whale on the screen.... that's pretty big! It certainly made the movie experience very awesome. You feel like you're in the movie. As I just mentioned you do have to endure a two minute "Welcome to IMAX" skit that's pretty cheesy... but it does teach you a little bit about how the IMAX experience works, which is interesting. And right after the skit, they go right into the movie.... you don't have the 30 minutes of previews as you do in regular theaters. I gave this IMAX three stars for the movie experience. The massive screen and sound system are pretty fantastic. It would deserve another star if the seating was more comfortable and if they played regular Hollywood movies more often. In case you were wondering.... Star Trek on the IMAX? Very awesome! read more

Have visited three times now and just want to say how friendly the staff is. The seat are very comfortable and the prices are great! they have a great gift shop with lots of goodies. Overall enjoyed the experiences here and the movies they show are amazing. My favorite was Pandas because I have visited China twice and it takes me back seeing how Pandas was made. Thank you Imax Chattanooga! read more

This was my first experience at the TN Aquarium IMAX, but it certainly won't be my last. The theater is super rad and clean. The cleanest movie theater I've ever seen. The concession stand was awesome and you can get beer, wine, cocktails and soda. As soon as I walked in the door the smell of the popcorn won me over. Nothing like that smell. It just makes your mouth water. The prices were reasonable too, unlike the movie chain's prices. It was so great to walk into the air-conditioned theater from the brutal heat outside. Saw the Movie, America's Musical Journey in 3D. The 3D glasses were great. No cheap ones, but solid and comfortable. (Make sure you put your glasses in the receptacle when the movie is over.) The screen was awesome and the previews for upcoming 3D movies were so fantastic! I must go and see Oceans. It felt like I was in the ocean with these magical and beautiful sea creatures. Anyway, the movie I saw was really cool. It was entertaining as well as informative, and I came away as a new fan of Aloe Blacc, who is featured in the film. He's the one taking us on this journey. I absolutely loved it. The staff are all really kind and they seem like they enjoy their jobs. Thank you for a wonderful experience. read more

Theater is nice, seats are comfortable, and employees were friendly in helping us deal with our small children. We saw Journey to Space in 3D, and all were provided the 3D glasses while we waited in line. The shows are less than an hour, which is good for kids, especially tiny ones. They have concessions, so it feels like a real movie theater. There's also a gift shop, selling many of the things that you'd find in the other gift shops. It's in a completely separate building, a few minutes walk from the aquarium. It felt like a nice afternoon break for us between the Ocean Journey and the River Journey. read more

I come here to see the ocean showings alone. I sit near the front and get lost in the ocean for a while and it's quiet and no one bothers me. It is an extremely therapeutic thing to me, and I think a lot of other people could benefit from it too, and it's way cheaper than a session with a shrink. :) read more

For films that justify it, the 3D / IMAX experience really can't be beat. You'll want to bring earplugs for the noisier pics, though, as their new state-of-the-art sound system truly KICKS! (and my hearing isn't even what it USED to be!) Refreshments are very reasonably priced (which helps balance out the ticket price) and chairs are soft and comfy. There's really not a bad seat in the house, as the screen is several stories high. If you want to plan an 'event' with the family and don't mind spending a little bit more than usual, the TN Aquarium IMAX 3-D will deliver! read more

We took our 3 year old son to the Chattanooga Aquarium and were fully enthralled by all the activities. We wish we had more time there to see every nook and cranny. We did the iMax 3D movie, the Explorer boat and the Aquarium of course! The Explorer Boat experience was such a great experience we learned so much about the river. We also enjoyed the iMax movie and the location of all of these attractions were so close to a variety of restaurants. This entire day was perfect for a family and families with small children. Our 3 year old enjoyed the 3D iMax movie - it was his first movie so we were not sure how that would work out. read more

Went to watch Toy Story 3 after New Year's. As previous review stated, seating begins (max) 10-15 minutes before the show starts. Have your concession snacks in your hands and ready to go because you won't appreciate having to get settled in your seat and swim upstream to reach the concession stand. The screen is da*n big for the size of the theatre. The first 3-4 rows - you are looking up at the screen. Sound quality is pretty good. My niece was talking during the movie (next to me) and I didn't even hear her. I think their quality is better because it is a smaller theatre with same features as a major movie theatre showing a 3D movie. Cons: Parking - I wish they had a free parking validation for a nearby structure while you watch a movie. I think this is a huge deterrent for going. Exiting is a headache as you go upstairs, around the 2nd floor, and down into the gift shop. Of course, the bottom of the stairwell is full of toys and stuffed animals so the line backs up fairly quickly on the stairs. read more

The I Max continues to be one of our favorite date night destinations. With our Aquarium membership we get a nice little discount on I Max tickets. Today we watched the film about Africa. We both liked it a lot. I love how frequently they change the movie options. Parking isn't available on the property so a little walking is deff gonna have to happen. The concessions are reasonably priced read more

I'm not crazy about 3D films but I've been to more than I'd prefer. This being a family trip we of course had to visit the IMAX. I was glad the film was shorter than a typical movie because the constant refocusing of my eyes in 3D gives me a headache. I know, I know I just sound whiney. I was a little surprised the theater wasn't larger because it would be nice to sit farther away from such a big screen. The graphics were nice and the kids really thought it was cool. My husband on the other hand, someone who loves 3D movies, ended up falling asleep. SO unless you're just enthralled with the idea of seeing a 3D film about something educational you probably wouldn't want to spend the money on the IMAX. read more

The IMAX Theatre at the Tennessee Aquarium is a fancy version of other IMAX theatres I've been in. The auditorium and seating is pretty standard to IMAX theatres, but the lobby has a spiffy concession stand and an Aquarium gift shop that includes items pertinent to the films being shown. There were two films being shown in rotation, plus a third film that showed only at 3pm. I don't think it really matters what film you see, they're all pretty enjoyable. Choose based on personal interest or what best fits your schedule. All films are in 3D, which feels a little gimmicky. IMAX by itself is pretty spectacular without the 3D. You can add an IMAX film to your Aquarium admission for only $6. It's a good value and worth doing. It's also a great place to sit down and chill out when you've been walking around downtown on a warm day. read more

My girlfriend and I went on a weekend vacation to Chattanooga to walk around, try all the food, and see all the sights. As part of that trip we went to the aquarium and decided to pickup some IMAX tickets to use at the end of the night (last showing was at 9pm), mainly because we didn't want to sit in a theatre packed with noisy children. Thankfully, the 9pm showing only had a handful of people, pretty much all adults and it was an extremely pleasant viewing experience. I've read many other reviews so I must put up this disclaimer ***GO TO A LATE SHOWING TO AVOID OBNOXIOUS CHILDREN***. We went to see the recently released "Beautiful Planet", narrated by Jennifer Lawrence. With the small crowd we were able to get seats that were in the dead center of the theatre about 4 rows from the top. You definitely want these seats because the screen is enormous and you may not see the full screen if you were any closer. The documentary itself was an amazing experience. The IMAX 3D is of the highest quality. The funny thing about our trip to Chattanooga, was at the end we asked each other our favorite part of the trip. Despite all the scenery and wonderful restaurants, we both claimed IMAX 3D as the most memorable experience. This may be in part due to the specific documentary we chose to watch and the time at which we chose to go. All around a great experience and I look forward to visiting again in the future. read more

This IMAX theater does not disappoint you at all. Great staff, awesome shows, lovely facilities. Seems like each time I go, they impress me more each visit. I love their 3D nature shows they have. We went to the IMAX last night for a Yelp event. We had a great time. It is such an easy, very handicap accessible place to visit. I'm legally blind in both eyes. Lighting is very important to me and this place is So easy to navigate. We were able to take the elevator and sit right in the first row with no stairs and there was a guide with a flashlight. The bathrooms are on the first floor and they were clean. And my final thing that I can say-best i broke my diet for some really good popcorn! read more

I'd never been to an imax theater before, and it was a cool experience. I got a discount since I bought it with admission to the Tennessee Aquarium (which I I highly recommend). This is part of the Tennessee Aquarium education campus. Finished in 1995, the building now holds a 6 story screen ( one of the biggest in the region) and a fantastic 12.1 IMAX audio system. The projection was recently remodeled and is all Laser. That makes the Black light, solid black and whites crispy. They offer a decent inventory of snacks and concessions right next to a gift shop that offers many made in USA items. The building can be rented for special occasions. The "Grate Hall" is a Terrazzo and always clean and so shiny you can see yourself on it. The have plenty of seating outside the theater in the Great Hall alongside a beautiful garden hidden behind doors at the rear. you can go out there and eat wHilst enjoying the native birds and flowers. It is a nature perverse. They also have multiple classrooms and a Boardroom. Many interesting acrylic sighing for you to learn about the earth. read more

We decided to go to the 12pm showing on Valentine's Day. After waiting in line to pay for parking we rush to the theater with about 15 minutes to spare. Then we see the long line. We got in line because we had already paid to park. By the time we got in, the movie had started. We didn't have time to go to the bathroom or get any refreshments. We hurried to our seats. There were several people behind us in line and they filed in slowly after us. The movie about the National Parks was very good, we would have enjoyed it more if we hadn't missed the beginning. I don't understand why they couldn't open a second ticket window, based on the number of people in line. After reading another reviewer saying the same thing about the 2pm showing, they obviously made no move to correct the problem. read more

It was Valentine's Day so it was busy. Usually the place is empty. We waited 30 min in line out side in the cold for tickets for the two o'clock show. I took my 3 yr old son to see his first 3D film at IMAX Chattanooga and he loved it. My only problem was that the lady who sold me the tickets was extremely rude, even going to far as throwing a block of wood, not kidding, at the space where you hand credit cards to them when she decided we were done. I dont know what her problem was but it was very uncomfortable and I dont think I'm ever going back. There are other things to do in Chattanooga that are just as fun without mean and nasty ticket ladies jumping down your throat for no apparent reason. B/c of Covid, this theater was empty and i was the second person to buy a ticket that day apparently. I was there on Nov 4th and bought the 3:45 show about turtles in case anyone in management wants to look up who was working that shift. The guy who took the tickets and glasses was very nice and polite. I really think that if he had been rude as well, i would have just asked for a reimbursement. The movie was great but being treated that way just made the whole experience less than ideal. It stuck with me to the point of making a review. read more
