There is two UETA Duty Free stores right next to each other, in the same plaza as Las Americas…read moreShopping Mall. I would like to assume that they are both the same business, even though they are separated by one store in between. In the first store on the right side, we walked in and there were two ladies standing in the front, gossiping away. They stared at us and continued talking, they didn't bother to greet us until I personally said hello. I wanted to check this place out because I recently heard about it through a friend, he told me that they usually have these stores only in the airports, but they had some here in San Ysidro, and they're known for discounted alcohol and other goods. I browsed through the store, which heavily showcased long walls stocked with empty liquor boxes (for the more expensive stuff), and actual liquor bottles (for the cheaper stuff). For anything that says "For Export Only", means you can only purchase it if you cross the border, because there is no tax charged on the items. This rule goes for all liquor and tobacco. But as for all other non-consumable items, they also sell perfume, cologne, sunglasses, and purses, which can be purchased directly in the store. It's quite unfortunate that they have such a ridiculous rule of not being able to buy liquor or tobacco, without crossing the border due to no tax, if they gave the option to buy the goods with tax, I would do so, because in honesty, the prices on the products are exceptionally good. The only other place that can compare such prices would be on the military base, which I may have to visit because I don't want to cross the border. But let me just mention, that you can get a 3.0L bottle of Hennessy VSOP for only $209!!! Thats amazing. I will be honest with you, the only items that are great deals, are only the high end liquors, the low end liquors are regular priced. But the tobacco cartridges are a steal as well. Since tax on cigarettes have gone up and its about $10 a pack, when you can purchase a whole 12-pack here for about $35-$40. P.S. Also went into the other store on the left side, and we were greeted, and i asked another lady questions and she was very friendly and informative. But at both locations, the whole store is completely empty, and they follow you around like you're about to steal something. Also, you're not allowed to take photos, which I didn't know until the end of my visit, but I will still post about my findings.

Don't carry what I need anymore and won't sell if you are walking. They used to take me to the…read moreboarder crossing but I guess it's been a long time. Had to use Baja duty free

So if you don't know about duty free shopping by know, get with the program. Essential stop if you…read moreare spending a weekend down in Mexico, or if you're a local resident. Basically, you go here, and pay 2/3rds to 1/2 (on good deals) of the price of booze that you'd pay in the states. Why? Basically, as you know, a good percentage of the price you pay for booze is tax to the gov't. Gotta fund Iraq somehow.......your property taxes and gasoline taxes aren't enough to fund a 1 trillion dollar war.....remember, only two things in life are guaranteed........ So here they've got all the standard liquors (rum, tequila, vodka, gin, whiskey, you name it). Example, liter of Captain Morgan is about 8 bucks here. In the states, you're looking at probably double. They also have cases of beer, wine, etc......case of Bohemia (24 pack) will run $16. Fine jewelry, sunglasses, etc. are also available for purchase, although I haven't bought anything like that yet. Just get me my drink. To me, it seems like the jewelry/perfume/accessories are all priced similary to something in a retail store. But then again, I don't know how to price luxury items all that well. Yeah, so you get your bottle of Cazadores or Captain Morgan and case of beer, buy it, they meet you out front, and then escort you to Mexico. They want to make sure you aren't taking your tax free booze to your buddy's kegger over in La Jolla. Then that, my fellow yelper, would be cheating the US government out of their rightfully earned tax dollars. That my fellow yelper, is tax avasion, and punishable by law. The thinking in this store is, you shouldn't pay taxes to the US gov't if you ain't gonna be consuming the booze on their US land. Thus, more reason to come to Mexico and get totally blasted on ultra cheap booze. (As if the dollar shots of cheap tequila death at the border night clubs iisn't enough for you already.) Does the concept work? I'm a walking example. One more reason why Mexico is da sh*t. Viva Mexico!!!!

The staff is rude, frequently understaffed, and discriminates against the elderly and Americans…read more You have to walk to the entrance of Mexico before they will give you the cigarettes. The location of where you pick up constantly changes. Either it is at the end of the last building before Mexico, or in the rest area after the last building going into Mexico. The last time I was there the staff were more interested in chatting amongst themselves than serving the public. I was finally served and then after buying some cigarettes, I was given the carton at the door. The supervisor did not tell me that I could not stop at any other store. I thought that it would be ok to stop and buy a lottery ticket. I then went straight to Mexico after that. I was told later because I had stopped to buy a lottery ticket I could no longer shop there. I asked the person who was the supervisor to speak to her manager. I had to insist because at first the supervisor refused to tell me who her manager was. When I went back to the store the next day, the manager said that the main reason I was no longer welcome was because on my waty to Mexico I frequently stop to rest. I am 70 years old and have an injury that at times makes me stop and rest before I can resume my walk into Mexico. The manager told me her staff had better things to do than wait for an old man to walk to Mexico. This is age discrimination and I will be filing complaint with the EEOC and have them investigated for age discrimination.
