While visiting from Florida, I had the pleasure of being taken to lunch at the Illini Lounge. Upon entering, the look & feel is definitely comfortable & welcoming, only to be taken up a notch by the attentive & friendly staff. Being from Florida & seeing fried shrimp on the menu, I had to try it out to compare. Pleasantly surprised is all I can say! Lightly breaded with just the right amount of Old Bay seasoning suited me well. Added to that was a side of garlic red potatoes and a trip to the well-stocked salad bar - I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Will certainly be going again soon! read more

I just stopped by this little local joint and had a fabulous chicken dinner that tastes just like your grandmas! Our server was Nicoletta, who was more than helpful. We had a relaxing weekday lunch at the Illini Lounge. We had the beef roll which was like a cross between a Chicago beef sandwich and a Calzone. It was generously filled with beef and cheese and was fun to try. The menu helpfully and accurately suggests it is for 1-3 people. I'd say 3 would be best unless the diners are very hungry and not having anything else. We also had potato skins as an appetizer and they were clearly house made because they were plump and tender and only barely resembled the typical frozen shriveled skins you find at bars. When we arrived one of the TVs was playing a news channel with the audio on. I asked, if nobody was watching it, if we could listen to something else. Our server changed it to a country music channel which was much appreciated. She also was curious what we thought about their food etc. We felt very taken care of and everything was very clean. read more

Usually I'm happy with their food but when I ordered my delivery just now Hmm feel cheated! Ordered shrimp scampi pasta for $16 you'd think I'd get more than a few shrimp with too much pasta ‍won't order this again paid wayyyy too much for it. This place is a nice little gem "down in town" as I call it. Illini lounge appears to be the local hangout and visiting here actually reminds me of Cheers - Marseilles is a small town, with a small town feel and everyone knows each other. The pizza here is very good. On Wednesdays you can get a large two topping pizza for only $8. It's a cozy little place too; if you decide to dine in. They have daily specials and my husband and I have had date nights here on Tuesdays when you can enjoy all you can eat tacos, which are pretty good. I haven't explored the entire menu but did have the chicken dinner and it was tasty as well. read more

When we moved into Marseilles, Illini became our go to place for dinner. We were without a kitchen for a long while during the remodel, so going there for dinner was always a good time. Had prime rib dinner ABSOLUTELY worth the $. Service was good, she kept our drinks full.

I have only been there twice for drinks and both times I was not even acknowledged at the bar. I waited 15-20 minutes to be asked if I wanted a drink, while the bartender chatted with her friends and texted on her phone. This is a small bar and both times it was not busy at all. I also ordered carry-out chicken from here two weeks ago. It was overcooked and dry, and the fries were cold. I tried giving this place several chances and unfortunately they keep showing they do not care. read more

All these great reviews are beyond me. I've given them so many chances but tonight was the last one. First, 90% of the time a carry out order is missing something we ordered or something that is supposed to be included. That's been a problem for years. But the last year or so, the food isn't as good as it once was. The pizza is pretty much frozen quality. Home Run Inn frozen is actually better. The French Dip seems like leftover meat. But tonight's spaghetti was the last straw. Sitting in a pool of water. I drained a out two cups out of it. It's always like that. Absolutely no flavor. I wouldn't be surprised if the sauce was leftover from a few days ago. It went from plate to trash after the first bite. We'll never order here again. read more

Wings on Mondays and prime rib on Saturdays, I go at least 2 times a month just for the wings. They have so many flavors and the wings are good sizes and flavors. Prime rib is perfect but if you go late you might night it get one. A must go to for all you can eat wings Monday. read more

I will admit that the food is very good the few times we dined inside. Because of Covid we now just do carry out. This now makes the third time when entering the restaurant that no one wears a mask. Not the servers so we can only guess that the kitchen doesn't either. With the numbers rising in virus cases daily I would think that this restaurant would act more responsibly. Used to be a wonderful place to go. But in the past year it has only disappointed. The past 4 experiences have been horrible experiences and tonight will be the last straw. Ordered dinner at 6. And waited and waited. Knew that it was fried chicken special so 25 min for it would be fine. But at 7:05, still no food and the table who arrived 10 min after us, had already recieved their chicken special..... hungry, confused and no one around to communicate with us, we just decided that they could keep the chicken that maybe they were having a hard time catching it out back. Non the less I believe they need to go back to the old Illini. Disappointed former regular, won't be back. read more

We were in Marseilles for Cliffs Insane Terrain for a ride, and wanted to check out and support a local business. We tried Illini Tavern, and it was AMAZING. The best Reuben I have had in a long time! My buddy had the 50/50 burger (50% beef and 50% ground bacon mixed together), and he loved his too. Been here a few times. Love the new remodel! So much more spacious and brighter. We ordered the fried chicken and a blt with soup and salad bar. The chicken was delicious, enough for two meals. Both came with a generous portion of fries. The salad bar was small but adequate. There was clam chowder and a minestrone type soup. We had the clam chowder and it was great. Our waitress was Brooke. She was smiley, professional, attentive and the best we have had in the area. They have five slots in the front. Overall a great night out. We will definitely return. read more

They have a huge round full bar and great seating for a restaurant making the atmosphere perfect for anyone. The menu is extensive and we had all you can eat fish (Friday's) which was delicious and $10 and a pizza (OMG!!!! Soooo good!!!!!). As a Texas girl who likes her beer cold, I will say this is ice cold beer. Now a deal breaker would be bad service to all of this, but NO....the bartender was extremely friendly, efficient and handled all her guests as well as the waitress drinks like a boss! I wish we lived around here because I would come here as a regular. I travel all over the United States for my husband's job and in this little town of 5000, this is one of my favorite spots so far! read more

This was the second dining experience I've had at this establishment and it will be the last. The first time the food and service were mediocre at best but I thought I might give them a second chance for "all you can eat" wing night. There were only a few tables seated when we arrived early. It took about 20 min for anyone to even approach our table, probably another 30 min to get our food. After that it was a good 20 min to get my next five wings each time, which were insanely tiny and pretty unappetizing. Not once were we asked to have our beverages refilled not even my 3 yo son's. When I finally got tired of waiting (before even being full) we asked for our check which our waitress manipulated to charge my girlfriend for two 5 piece wings instead of one 10 piece, which was a five dollar difference. Her explanation was that she wanted 2 different flavors. Of course, this wasn't explained to us at the time we ordered. Her justification was that she gave us a free $.50 cup of ranch. Terrible food, even worse service. Never again. read more

The only thing wrong with this place is it is usually PACKED. The chic ken wings... Did I say Chicken wings? WOW, They are Tender, and like 30 different flavors! and the salad bar! And cold beer on draft! Prime Rib is GREAT! The Tacos are perfect! I think they just expanded the Dining area.. I have not been back, but i sure hope so! Great looking restaurants and even greater food specials. Easily the best bar in town. HOWEVER, I feel like since they know they are the best bar in town and options are limited, they can get away with a below par standard of customer service. Rarely am I promptly greeted and once finally acknowledged the tone is more of a let's get this transaction over with attitude. Even on busy nights the sense of urgency behind the bar or with your servers is typically non-existent. I will say there are a few exceptions and there are one or two bartenders that always seem to do a great job. The other 90% really come off as if they could care less about your business or your experience. read more

We have been coming to this bar/restaurant since 2002. Sunday afternoon was a disappointment. The first waitress walked by without looking or speaking to us. Then we waited 10 minutes to place a drink order. The chicken shell soup was a mush mixture from over cooking. The "bar" tender had a foul loud mouth that offended not only us but also the people sitting at other tables plus she left and went outside to have a cigarette no one except two waitresses to serve and they stood in the back. Oh the chicken was good but the ambiance was not. Just knew Jimmy and Dawn were not there--there was no supervision or hospitality. It will be awhile before we go back to bad used to be our go to place before we go home from Woodsmoke on the weekend. read more

The food is ok....IF someone brings it out when it's done. Good luck if you order delivery. They don't give enough of a shit to cook your order fresh. There are places nearby that would be embarrassed to send out food for a table or delivery that had been sitting 30 minutes, but not the Illini. The service is terrible too, but it's not the bar staff, the wait staff, the kitchen staff, the delivery drivers, or anyone else's fault except management. It is horribly run. You can't have a decent restaurant/bar when the owner managers don't give a shit. They know how few options people around here have, and they don't have any shame. read more

Was really excited to try this restaurant since hearing so many good reviews upon our moving into town last September. The first time, we ordered burgers, fries and appetizers. One of the burgers was a bacon patty...reading that on the menu I was instantly sold-who doesn't love bacon?! When we picked up the food I noticed a very odd smell that turned out to be my burger. Normally, that would be enough for me to call game over...but, the bacon aspect kept me focused. Imagine my surprise when I opened the container and it looked worse than it smelled...I decided to try it out anyway and I made it through exactly one bite and OMG that is NOT bacon. Mashed up bacon may be in there somewhere, but i'm not entirely convinced that dog food isn't the main ingredient. My husband said his burger was great, and the appetizers were very good as well. Pizza, however, is a whole other story, and what we order each and every time we eat there now. The sausage is phenomenal, sauce is great and the crust is perfect. Tastes like homemade every time. If I were reviewing the food alone, I would have given at least 4 stars (if i'm taking into consideration the bacon burger fiasco) or 5 stars for the pizza. The reason for only giving 3 stars is customer service and consistency. When we started ordering pizza on a regular basis, we came to know the prices rather well as we order the exact same thing every time. One of the times I called and placed an order I ordered just one pizza instead of our usual three. The very next day I called and ordered the same single pizza and there was a $5 upcharge in price-for the exact same order as the previous day. I talked with the girl that took the order about this, and at first she said it didn't make sense, there's only one way to ring up the order, and she "had no idea", and was more than willing to just leave it at that. When I pressed the issue, she then said she asked the owner and was told "there must have been a lunch special the first day during certain times"...ok--except the orders were placed for lunch both days at around noon. Needless to say, I just paid what they asked and went about my day...although, I have a hard time looking at the establishment in the same light ever since. All in all, give this place a try, the food is definitely worth it! Just be sure to bring your accounting degree along on your dinner date and crunch the numbers when the bill comes. :) read more
