The memorial at the front entrance to the park.

I happened upon this park as I was searching for a nice place to eat my lunch outside. I was pleased by the overall cleanliness of the park. You can drive through the entrance and stop at the military memorial for free. However, venturing further into the park requires the Discovery Pass or a $10/day fee. The 82-acre state park is located on Port Orchard Bay, which is part of Puget Sound. I noticed several camping areas within the park as well. It was beautiful, clean, and definitely worth a stop.

Pretty campground. Very few private sites. Road noise. Clean restrooms and showers. Friendly rangers and hosts.

    Nice beach to enjoy.

Today it's free to visit the park. It is one of the nicest state parks I have seen. Camping and day use areas. A small boat launch. Playgrounds and numerous nature trails. When i visited seen people crabbing off the docks.

Park is open for walking, hiking, running, bike riding bring doggies! Picnic/play areas are closed at the moment. Well manicured hiking trails at this park. Park use $10.00 a day or buy a discover pass $30.00

This is a BEAUTIFUL park. We camped here July 27 to August 12016. The campsite was full all nights except for the last night we stayed. What to expect.... Very wooded area, the trees are beautiful and there are several trails inside the park. Staff was very nice and helpful. They sell wood for campfires for $5.00 a bundle and are available to buy until 9pm Bathrooms are clean, one shower for men and one for women. They are paid showers and you must have dollar bills for the machine to get tokens. 2 tokens for a dollar and 1 token gives you 3 minutes of hot water - so figure out what you will need and bring the right amount of cash, there is nobody there to give you change, the machine takes 1 and 5 dollar bills. camp guests (those who may be visiting but are not staying at the campsite) are asked to leave by 8 or 9 pm and the gate is closed (not locked) at 10 pm. There is a very heavy park ranger presence around the park - I probably saw them every hour that i was sitting at my campsite. With all the security my next statement may seem unlikely but BE WARNED.... Apparently there is a BIG problem with theft at this park. We were told by the ranger that at least 2-4 phones are stolen from the bathrooms every week. You would think that signs would be posted warning people of this - they are now, but were not when we were there. My wife phone was stolen from the bathroom while she was taking a shower and letting it charge by the sink. in hindsight she should have never let her phone sit unattended, but we have camped all our lives and never have I had something stolen from me while camping so it just was not something she thought of. people from the surrounding area come in, watch for people to come into the bathroom with phones wait to hear the shower come on and run in to snatch the phones. We later located our phone using the find my iphone app about 10 minutes away and filed a police report. one other phone and one woman purse were stolen that day! the only reason i did not give it a 5 star is because with this being a known problem I feel they should warn campers ahead of time. That being said it is absolutely beautiful, you will eellike you are just tucked away in the forrest.

The upper park trails are very natural, but very easy to hike.

Easy woodland path with the last stand of old growth trees in Kitsap county (a sad thing to say). Access to Puget Sound waterfront. Well-kept picnic area and camp sites. Easy to get to but surprisingly it's rarely crowded, so can provide quite a wildernessy feeling though perfectly tame.

Nice place to get away and enjoy the Puget Sound. Need to purchase a discovery pass, which is good at all Washington State Parks.

Its great for a quick walk exercise, .7 miles per completed loop. It is "dogs welcome" though signage posted next to the rest-room building alerts that they must remain on a leash & to "pick up after your pet" both as required by city law, fines apply - just about everyone participates at least in the "controlled by a leash" part no matter the size and temperament of the pet at the moment! Don't know about the other. Information about the city off leash Bark Park at Pendergast is included on the sign (there is a off leash dog park in Silverdale too). Beautiful colored skies, nice lighting, and no distractions whatsoever. Mother Nature was good to us that day. We definitely took our time with our shots and made the most of the evening. Other than that, the park is great for walk/jogs and just a nice peaceful area to be at with the waters right next to it. There is also a baseball field, tennis courts and a basketball court, but it was closed during the pandemic. They even unscrewed the basketball hoops off the courts. Just a great stress reliever at this park. :)

A Seattle Gem with Breathtaking Views!…read more Discovery Park is hands down one of the most beautiful spots in Seattle. My husband grew up in Magnolia, so he took me here for a hike last weekend, and I was completely blown away. We explored the south side and walked the Loop Trail. The path is well-maintained and offers stunning panoramic views of the Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. It's hard to believe you're still within the city limits! It's the largest park in the city, so there is plenty of space to enjoy nature. Whether you want a serious hike or just a peaceful stroll to see the water, this is the place to go. Don't forget your camera--the scenery is post-card perfect!

From an urban park perspective, the only other experience that comes close for me is when I moved to the Old Town Manchester neighborhood in Richmond, Virginia, and had Belle Isle in my backyard, which offers access to hiking, large flat rocks for sunbathing, and whitewater rafting on Class II, III, and IV rapids on the James River right in the middle of downtown. Okay, back to Discovery Park. I spent an entire day exploring the park. I started by ordering a carryout lunch at Damoori Kitchen, which is now closed according to Yelp. I then walked to Discovery Park and hiked the 4.4-mile Discovery Park and Lighthouse Loop. A map for that trail can be accessed using a trail app. The loop trail took me through several ecosystems such as coastal meadows, tidal beaches, forest groves, sand dunes, and vast stretches of thickets with wild berries. Once I finished hiking the loop, I walked back to Damoori Kitchen and caught a rideshare back to downtown Seattle. Highlights from my Discovery Park adventure included eating lunch at the tidal beach, exploring sea cliffs, seeing jaw-dropping views of Mount Rainier, hiking past the West Point Lighthouse, and experiencing the sights, sounds, flora, and fauna of the park's majestic landscape.

The same designers for the famous Fountains at the Bellagio in Las Vegas designed this park. They built interpretations of an armada of battleships - 6 fountains spaced out. And at choreagraphed times, each fountain explodes with bursts of water from the top, one at a time, which is also symbolic of the volcanic activity in the area (think of Mount St. Helens and Mount Rainier/Tahoma as they are active volcanoes). It was a hot, summer weekday when I visited and there were some families with their kids enjoying the water in the fountains. It's a nice way to spend an summer afternoon by the water. There are tables and chairs so you can easily have a picnic while there.

The Harborside Fountain Park seems more like an ornately gardened playground very nicely designed,…read moreattractive artifice, but very little that is "natural." To an extent it is over-designed. But it's comfy, wheelchairable, great view of Sinclair Inlet. The best harborside fountain isn't here, though. It's on the big staircase alongside the harborside Conference Center, thin jets of water shooting all the way along the stairs in watery emulation of leaping salmon. Downtown Bremerton is one big embarrassing dead zone sad to see failing year after year, with no chance of restoration until the parking problem is fixed. Currently it's easy parking if you're getting on the ferry, or if you're in a police car, otherwise a nightmare. But if the entire downtown was as nice as that small area around the ferry with the boardwalk, conference center, and harborside fountain park, then Bremerton would be a northwest gem. Maybe someday. But never if it remains so unfriendly to arrival by automobile, and so eager to give parking tickets to everyone as one of the failed city's chief means of income.
