Sometimes you get lucky when you travel and sometimes you have Yelp. We were in a tiny town on Lake Como Italy, Abbadia Lariana. We wondered if we could find a nice restaurant for our 36th anniversary, so we consulted Yelp. Right around the corner from our motel was a place called Il Vicolo--"the Alley". We decide to go, wandered around the tiniest of streets on foot to get there and arrived at a little "hole in the wall". We were greeted warmly, seated next to a large group of very happy local construction workers and had the time of our lives the first night. The food was fabulous, the service, mostly by the owner, Fabio, was delightful. The food was amazing, did I mention that already? We thought we'd died and gone to heaven.
At a point I needed the bathroom, went to find it and realized we were in the "cheap seats". We had booked so late that the restaurant was already fully booked, so we were seated in the front dining room. It's perfectly fine, but the main dining room was phenomenally beautiful with ancient stone work and wonderful art work. We had already decide to book the next night so we requested the main dining room. We went back wondering if it could possibly be as great as the night before. It was. We all ordered the beef over greens because we'd tried each other's meals from the night before and that won. Every dish was wonderful, but the beef was over the moon.
How rare and wonderful when the food quality and the ambiance are both phenomenal. Thank you Fabio. read more
