Amazing!!! What's not to like.
Being on lake como is already magic. And menaggio! This little island is even more magic. Cute, small, peaceful. And in April! No tourists around. Just local visitors scattered a handful here and there.
For lunch, I wanted something unique and homey. This place came highly recommended from the locals. It was hard to find, tucked away behind the front / Main Street restaurants. I actually went into another restaurant in the front of this, which was more on the main road. I sat! I got the menu. It was all English. I knew, I walked away!
People here barely speak English. What's the point of being back in Italy if you can't order in Italian? And Menaggio, Bellagio and other island spots here are just that. Very Italian! If you see an English menu, run! Tourist trappppp. And it was tourist trap with crap menu! Crap basis!
So back to this little heaven was amazing. The old lady that runs this place was so nice. I was the second table! It was the end of lunch time. Her son is the chef: young (22-24 I believe? ). They were just so nice. Make me feel like I was eating at my family's restaurant! Minus 20-30 Italians fighting over to feed you :D
Food! Pasta tonne! The tuna pasta! It's something you won't find in US. Sicily you can't eat it cause too salty. The coastal town down south: hit or miss. But central Italia! They do it so well. It's creamy, tomatoy rich spaghetti tonne/tune! So good!!
The potatoes with olive oil and rosemary: yes! Prosciutto di parma pre pasta: definitely!! And bistecca: it's quite common to find kinds of steak on menu in Lake como/ little towns. All over Como actually. It was a little over cooked for my taste but I still love it. It's the vibe!
Oh and I had this pretty purple dress with long ass train on for absolutely no good reason.. but matches the whole purple/lavender vibe of this place. So that's a win!
I also got a carafe of their house white/ it's lunch! And it's perfect with tuna. Of course, espresso & a cappuccino ( yes, it's a breakfast drink but whatever)! Dolce far niente meal!
Absolutely worth trekking all over menaggio in my 5 inch heels for this! Or sitting at a restaurant before this on Main Street.. got water and dashed because it was an English menu with zero Italians working there! Either way, it was a perfectly sweet lunch! I'll definitely be back next time I'm in this part of Lago di Como! read more
