Chez Mario is one of the best restaurants we've ever eaten at, USA and Europe both. We stumbled on it on a family vacation to Lake Como. The location if up on a hillside and is part of a hotel complex. Glad we had a GPS to help us get there. There is outdoor and indoor seating. The food was simply superb, from the beginning to the end of the meal. Everyone in our party had entirely different dishes, we all shared tastes, and everyone thought each dish was excellent. Beautifully cooked with perfect ingredients. We were all thrilled, and we never felt rushed. The owner Mario came by our table and chatted with us. We had limoncello at the end of the meal which was also delicious, and our son loved it so much that he asked about buying some. The owner was apologetic and said he made it himself and this was all that was left. Our group had one more night left before we departed the area and we told Mario we'd definitely be back the next night. He said fine, he'd hold a table for us. When I called the next day to confirm the table I was told that they were totally booked and there was no room. I said how disappointed I was and that Mario had said he'd hold a table for us. Then the woman on the phone said "Oh. are you the party of five from last night? Of course we have a table for you!" We arrived earlier the second night so we could appreciate the sunset going down over the lake from up on the hillside. The meal that night was as good as or better than the night before, and that was from beginning to end, with wonderful desserts to finish. Mario came out and handed my son a beer bottle with a cork in it and told him that this was the last of his limoncello and gave it to my son as a gift! Really lovely people, we can't recommend them highly enough and the food was right up there with the best we've ever had. read more
