What's that? ME, giving a pizza joint five stars? Yeah. But this isn't any ordinary pizza joint, and they fully deserve those five stars. Allow me to explain... Il Piccolo Focone has got range as well as depth in their pizza menu. That is to say, they cater to virtually every sort of taste, and do so with gluten free options on every pie. Their pizza menu alone spans 2 1/2 pages. While that made it hard to decide, I finally opted for the "Andreu," with tomato sauce, mozzarella, Serrano ham and mushrooms. The crust was pure Italian: thin, crispy and flavorful. The toppings were also Italian, in that they didn't smother the pie like they so often do in the States. The flavors stood out, yet blended very nicely. My wife opted for the Buon Gustaio salad. Crisp greens, Serrano ham, an unbelievable goat cheese and walnuts, and some dried fruit, all drizzled with an outstanding balsamic reduction. This salad wasn't just thrown together - it was finely crafted. (Yes, I *did* eat half of her salad, but that's only fair, as she ate half of my pizza!) Afterward, we shared a tiramisu. Now I'm older than most of your parents, and I've had my share of tiramisu. This one was undoubtedly among the top five I've ever had. In. My. Life! Their menu extends well beyond pizzas, and they even offer a pretty decent "Menu al Dia" for around € 11,00. (The folks at the next table were having that, and seemed to be enjoying it pretty well.) Our waiter was the consummate professional. The location is very near the Sagrada Familia, so keep it in mind if you're doing the tourist thing... or even if you live here. Found this place online when looking for gluten free restaurants in Barcelona. Walked 35 minutes to get there and found it closed. The owner gave some advice but then said in Spanish that we could wait. Wait for what? Well, turns out he reopened earlier for us. We asked why the owner opened a gluten free restaurant. Perhaps he was gluten free? It turns out that he has 2 daughters whom are gluten free! Also, he is from Italy where gluten free is very much more known and he wants to raise awareness in Spain. After 20 mins we got our food. I had the (gluten) pasta and it was tasty, but not amazing. It is the gluten free food which stands out though and with that said, I think Il Piccolo is quite unique, cute and interesting little Italian restaurant. read more

This place simply has the best gluten free (homemade!!!) pizza I've ever tasted. When ate it, I was terrified that they had given me the wrong pizza, and had to ask to be sure it was gluten free. So good. The owner and all the staff were wonderful. Although his english was bad, the owner was very inviting, and it was sad to leave him. Okay, so eating Italian food in Barcelona seems a bit weird, but surrounded by foreign food I wasn't sure was celiac-friendly, I was desperate for some gluten free food, no thinking or explaining required. Il Piccolo Focone fit the bill. A bit of begging and a twenty minute walk from our hotel later and my mom and I found ourselves at this amazing little gluten free haven. I found this restaurant using my Find Me Gluten Free app, and it absolutely did not disappoint! When we walked in, a server immediately asked if one or both of us was gluten free. Almost everything on the menu could be made gluten free, including the pizza and pasta. After more than a month in the not-so-gluten-free-friendly city of Paris, I was DYING for some pizza, and this one was the most authentic, delicious one I've ever had. The crust was still sprinkled with fresh flour, and the floppy thin pizza spilled over all sides of my large plate. My mom would not stop making fun of how happy I was, but what's better than a huge gluten free pizza?! I would have come back here each night of my stay in Barcelona, but my non gluten-free mom wasn't too thrilled with the Italian food in Barcelona concept. After multiple other less gluten-friendly restaurants (and a few reactions) I really wished I had! Seriously, if you're celiac and in Barcelona, come here. Gluten free heaven. This is hands down the best gluten free pizza I have ever tasted. It would make anybody with coeliac disease want to visit Barcelona. The pizza just melts in your mouth. The owner is a really nice Italian guy, and apparently his kids are gluten free, so he serves all dishes with or without gluten. They also have great Sangria and gluten free pasta. I hope this turns into a big franchise one day, it would do so well. It might seem like an odd location if you're a tourist in Barcelona, but the famous Sagrada Familia is just a few blocks away, so you could combine the two in a day. read more

I loved it so much, I went back again and I was only here for 5 days. I found this little gem by walking around the corner from where I was staying, hoping to find somewhere decent to eat on my first night in Barcelona after travelling. Stumbled across this place, I figured - can't go wrong with pizza, right? Well, I was VERY right. It's possibly (definitely) the best pizza I've ever had and the second time it was even better. And pizza is my favourite meal. The risotto looks good, the tiramisu tastes pretty great also but just trust me, GET THE PIZZA. They do nearly everything gluten free also, if you need that and some nice vegetarian options too. I dined alone and got a table just fine but bigger groups might need a reservation if it's busy. We have been here four times and it never disapoints! My husband eats gluten free and it is fabulous to be at a restaurant with some many options and that treat eating gluten as nothing strange. Last night we went again and we had two gluten free pizzas so we could share... Isabel and Caprichosa. Both so good and you couldn't even tell they were gluten free. I was VERY disappointed that I ordered the BEST gluten free pizza and gf Tiramisu I have ever had and one if not both of them were not gluten free. I have very bad gluten allergies and I was so sick after eating here, and I still am sick days later. I am not sure which of the two were not gluten free but I would never go back and eat there now. My server spoke very good English also so I really don't think it was an error on her part. I have a hunch the Tiramusi is what contained gluten but I don't know for sure. I am so disappointed as I read such great things about this places gluten free offerings,I never thought I would get sick eating here. If you do not have food allergies this place is worth checking out, and if you do have gluten allergies I would not risk it! We went to this restaurant as they were identified as having gluten-free pizza. Of course they wouldn't serve us so I gave no idea if it is good. They close at 3:30 p.m. and reopen at dinner. Thanks to 2 locals giving us poor directions we (a family of 4)arrived at 3:20 p.m. and they refused to serve us though we had walked for 10 city blocks in 90 degree heat and 70% humidity. Wow, this food is good. We had burrata then sirloin steak with Gorgonzola sauce. The sauce was thin and preserved the natural steak flavor. The steak rocked. We had two pizza pies. One with chorizo, ham, tuna and mushrooms. The second with salmon. Both pizzas were so yummy and savory. Service was terrific. We are lucky to have eaten here. Game changer. read more

If I could sneak into the kitchen and steal the recipe for the gluten free pasta and pizza, I would. I am still sitting here in disbelief that we what we had was gluten free. By far, the best gluten free pizza and pasta my girlfriend and I have ever consumed. I wish I could be a student for a week with the chef and take the recipes home with me to San Francisco. These guys would seriously make a fortune if they sold this pizza and pasta in San Francisco. No weird texture - the perfect combo of crispy and chewy pizza crust and no weird aftertaste on the pasta or pizza. The pasta was light and delicate just as it should be.
