We ordered three classic dishes that we thought couldn't be messed up: Cantonese fried rice, chow mein, and chicken with veggies. We noticed the price to be incredibly cheap but it's due to the small portions. The fried rice was unacceptably terrible, like they threw all their fridge leftover spam and frozen peas with old rice. The chicken and veggies didn't taste fresh, and we didn't even recognize the chow mein. If this restaurant was back in the States, it would probably get not even a half star. I do give them credit for achieving the "wok" taste, but if you are in Florence and craving Chinese food, search elsewhere.

In Niwa's case they've done a very good job of serving genuine food that correctly represents both Thai and Japanese cuisine. My friends and I ordered a series of dishes in order to sample all that the restaurant had to offer (ranging from pad thai to seared salmon) and discovered that not only were the dishes flavorful but also very filling. Definitely plan on popping in again. On a side note, the restaurant seems to fill up once it hits 9:00PM (or in Italian format 21:00) so make sure to come a little earlier if you don't want to wait.
