The BEST gelato we had in all of Italy!! This is a family owned and operated gelateria, where the gelato is made right inside the store!!! (You can see gelato being made behind the counter). There were several awesome flavors- both dairy and nondairy based, both of which use fresh fruit. I tried the nondairy based strawberry gelato and the dairy fior di latte ("the base" of all flavors, similar to our "vanilla"- from which all other flavors are created). Both flavors were DELICIOUS. All the gelato was smooth and creamy- you can tell it's homemade from the fluffiness and airiness of the gelato in the metal containers. Definitely recommend trying this gelateria!!

I have no room for mediocre gelato in my life! Shame on me for trusting Trip advisor....

    Caramel and pistachio gelato!
    Vivian C.

Standout flavors: caramel and pistachio! Food: Loved their caramel flavor! It is not too sweet and with just the right amount of salt. Also loved the pistachio flavor: extremely nutty and fresh! Their gelato is light and not heavy. Service: friendly lady behind the counter Space: small little counter- get it to go and eat by the steps of the canal right by its side! Price: comparable to all the other gelato stores around.

This was the first gelato we tried in Italy and it did not disappoint! We tried the peach and coffee flavors. It's really affordable at 1.50 euro for 1 scoop. There are lot of places to walk over and sit near by while you eat. The is also a grocery store right across from it where you can grab some water, wine, necessities, etc.

Good gelato and not over priced, line goes fast and friendly, helpful staff. Tried cone and in a cup as well, both are good

So good! I tried the coffee and Nutella flavors and both were awesome. Small little shop with a good selection and I also saw they have some vegan options although I didn't try any of them

This little ice cream parlor proclaims itself the "best ice cream in Venice". Having tried it, I would agree. The ice cream and slushies were made with real fruit. Not to miss is the "crema di doge"

    Coconut and apple gelato

I liked it! We decided to go with the coconut gelato and the apple gelato. The apple one was really good and the coconut one was pretty normal. I've had a lot of gelato in other places and I can't really differentiate it with the other places I've been. Regardless, it's a good place.

Very good gelato worth a stop if your in the area. They have 2 places in venice and this is there second. First one is a little bigger and might have more flavors but same gelato. This one is on the way to they Rialto bridge from the Santa Croce area where my hotel was located.

    Best icee in Venice!
    Lynne W.

We found this place last year and it was my hubby's fave so we came back for more this year. I actually favored their Icee drink. Best icee in Venice. It's a drink not gelato. I know it's the best because I had about 3 or 4 a day while in Venice. It was so hot and so crowded we needed one to cools down. Don't be scared of the mint it's actually refreshing but the strawberry is my fave!

Flavors are a gamble here. The hazelnut was great, but the mousse of tiramisu tasted like whipped cream...

    Delicious gelato!

I thought that this gelato was very good. I am not sure why there are such negative reviews. Most gelato in Venice appears factory-made, with neon colors and the like. The gelato here at Il Doge was much more natural and tasty. The chocolate and coffee crunch flavors were delicious. Only downside was that there wasn't cinnamon as a flavor choice when we visited (although their flavors do rotate), and their mint does't include any chocolate chips.

    Delicious gelato: delici and melon

Gelato was pretty good. I don't know that it's better than any other place. We had orange and chocolate.

Meh. Nice enough staff but the ice cream was pretty generic. Found a better place a few blocks away.

I asked for recommendations and his were all on point, including the changing daily special flavor. Today's was dark chocolate and it was the best gelato we have had on this multi city Italian tour, and Venice is city #10 on this tour for us! In fact it was so good my family of four went back after dinner for a second helping and to try other flavors. We experienced the same fast and friendly service from Dennis, and the same outstanding quality and deliciousness from the gelato. Highly recommend grabbing gelato here for anybody visiting. You will not regret it!

According to our guide, he explained that this place was selected not only because it's still family owned...but in addition to organic ingredients...they've still held true to the process of making gelato, smaller batches without an excessive amount of sugar added as a preservative. I honestly can't say I've had any bad gelato since I've been in Italy. I can't say I have a super discerning palate, but if there are unique interesting flavors...that's a winner for me. My go to flavors usually include hazelnut or pistachio. At this place however, I had the ricotta cheese with honey and sesame seeds...highly recommend

So, I was super excited to stumble across this self serve gelateria close to the Rialto Bridge The shop is shiny and modern, especially in such a historic town as Venice. The staff are helpful and offer tasting of the gelato if you're not sure which flavour to choose. They haven't quite figured out using small sample cups yet, so you get a generous helping of samples They had 12 flavours on offer, a mixture of creamy gelatos and fruity sorbets. Both were amazing, especially considering they came out of machines. My fear that they'd taste like soft scoop ice cream proved unfounded. I chose a refreshing zingy tangerine sorbet and the girlfriend went for decadently luxurious vanilla They offer paper cups in 2 sizes as well as waffle cones and cups To finish off your creation, they offer a wide mix of sweet toppings, sauces and preserved fruit. Some fresh fruit might be a good addition for them to consider Payment is by weight. For our full small bowl, we paid 3.95 Euros

There were tons of flavors and even more toppings. They even had a whipped cream dispenser that was to die for. The milk flavor was especially good. I didn't care for the berry syrup(?) that I tried but my boyfriend was fond of it. The decor was really cool, everything in the store was white and everything added to the atmosphere of the store. Very clean and the employees were very nice and both spoke some english. Reasonable prices, about what I'd expect to pay a self-serve frozen yogurt place in America. Both my boyfriend's and my gelato was around €7. If I could take any piece of Italy home with me, it would be this geletaria.
