Two weeks in Italy. Gelato 2x most days. = probably 20-24 different gelatos After all that, and on our final night in Italy we went here and had the absolute best gelato. Loved it so much. Lots of candied orange peels, orange flavors, creamy gelato, and chunks of chocolate. Best of the entire trip. read more

nothing special. ended up getting three different flavors because my fiancée didn't like the first two we got (the orange chocolate one which just tasted like orange and the salted caramel which was extremely salty). the third flavor we got was the black chocolate which tasted sort of like brownie mix and was very thick, almost gelatinous. 2.50 euro for a single scoop on a cone or in a bowl isn't a bad price but the actual gelato was not better than stuff I have gotten back in US. unless you are really craving ice cream I would not say this place is worth going to as it is not exceptional in any way. read more

The BEST gelato we had in all of Italy!! This is a family owned and operated gelateria, where the gelato is made right inside the store!!! (You can see gelato being made behind the counter). There were several awesome flavors- both dairy and nondairy based, both of which use fresh fruit. I tried the nondairy based strawberry gelato and the dairy fior di latte ("the base" of all flavors, similar to our "vanilla"- from which all other flavors are created). Both flavors were DELICIOUS. All the gelato was smooth and creamy- you can tell it's homemade from the fluffiness and airiness of the gelato in the metal containers. Definitely recommend trying this gelateria!! read more

This was the first gelato we tried in Italy and it did not disappoint! We tried the peach and coffee flavors. It's really affordable at 1.50 euro for 1 scoop. There are lot of places to walk over and sit near by while you eat. The is also a grocery store right across from it where you can grab some water, wine, necessities, etc. read more

Gelateria Il Doge is a mediocre gelateria given the ample options in Venezia. 1 star off: The flavors are basic (chocolate, mango, hazelnut, lemon, etc.) and nothing to "write home about". 1 star off: I did not like its signature flavor, Crema Il Doge, which consists of artificial orange and chocolate sauce flavors. Sorry, not worth my carbs! read more

Location I visited wasn't at the spot on yelp's map. It was closer to the Ca Foscari University of Venice. The il doge flavor (candied orange and chocolate in vanilla) was phenomenal! The gelato is also fresh as you can see them making it behind the counter! read more

I liked it! We decided to go with the coconut gelato and the apple gelato. The apple one was really good and the coconut one was pretty normal. I've had a lot of gelato in other places and I can't really differentiate it with the other places I've been. Regardless, it's a good place. read more

Very good gelato worth a stop if your in the area. They have 2 places in venice and this is there second. First one is a little bigger and might have more flavors but same gelato. This one is on the way to they Rialto bridge from the Santa Croce area where my hotel was located. read more

We found this place last year and it was my hubby's fave so we came back for more this year. I actually favored their Icee drink. Best icee in Venice. It's a drink not gelato. I know it's the best because I had about 3 or 4 a day while in Venice. It was so hot and so crowded we needed one to cools down. Look, I'm no gelato expert but for the price and location this place is pretty great. Right in the square where all the cool kids hang out, you can get 1 generous scoop of gelato for 1.50 Euros. They had a spicy chocolate one that reminded me of the stuff they have a Jacques Torres in Dumbo where they charge $4 for a scoop. They also had some granita that I love! Best flavor: almond. I thought that this gelato was very good. I am not sure why there are such negative reviews. Most gelato in Venice appears factory-made, with neon colors and the like. The gelato here at Il Doge was much more natural and tasty. The chocolate and coffee crunch flavors were delicious. Only downside was that there wasn't cinnamon as a flavor choice when we visited (although their flavors do rotate), and their mint does't include any chocolate chips. read more

As far as my gelato experiences go in Italy, this has definitely been my favourite. Their sign claims the best gelato in Venice and I would certainly have to agree. They give much bigger scoops than other stores in Venice and their gelato is top notch. If you like vanilla, you have to try the fior do latte. Very tasty and refreshing l read more

I have to say, for a gelateria in Italy, I expected better. My gelato was too loaded with dried fruit for me to really taste the actual gelato. They didn't offer just simple, pure, creamy gelato I wanted, seems like more for kids than grown-ups. read more

Have you people been to the same place I've been visiting almost daily? Is is grown up gelato at its best!! The chocolate noir is heaven in a cone. You won't find bubble gum flavor or cotton candy flavor here...maybe that's what some people want...and that's mediocre, in my book. This isn't for the Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream crowd...nor the Baskin Robbins brigade. Il Doge is for true lovers of quality and flavor! read more
