While Gelatoteca Suso ruled the first half of our trip, Ca'D'oro dominated the second half. I implore you to try their ricotta flavor with sesame and honey. Now let me assure you that I'm not one of those guys that normally goes for that flavor profile for dessert but it looked that it coaxed me out onto a limb where I was content to stay for the remainder of the trip. I had at least three servings in the next two days, mentally rearranging the contents of my stomach to make room for it after multiple big dinners. This will likely be my first gelato stop the next time I'm in Venice and I'd make it yours too.

Really impressed with the variety of flavors here. Then again, I don't know how many gelaterias I've tried and been satisfied with because they're all good! They have four cup sizes, with a small holding only up to one flavor (sadly not like other places where you can get two flavors in a small) and medium with two flavors, etc. They offer all the basic flavors like pistachio, tiramisu, cherry, etc., but I went for the ricotta with honey and sesame. SO good! My friend stuck with their typical hazelnut flavor and enjoyed it. We also tried their gianduiotto dessert which was REALLY yummy and melted so fast (offered hazelnut or amaretto flavors) You have the option of trying it with whipped cream, but we decided not to (as we had a smoothie in the other hand). Definitely would recommend this place, as it is right off the side of the tourist route.

Flavors Tasted - Organic Hazelnut / Stracciatella / Ricotta + Honey + Sesame Located at Str. Nova 4273b, just steps from the Ca D'Oro and its convenient Vaparetto stop, Gelateria Ca D'Oro is one of a handful of shops in Venice known for its Slow-Food ethics with each flavor made by hand daily from nothing but natural, organic ingredients - the prices only slightly higher than some of the most touristy locations near St. Mark's Plaza with flavors that stray a bit further from the standard options plus several styles of Semifreddo and frozen Parfaits as well as Popsicles available each day. Like most Italian Gelato shops in that the space is tight without any seating, a broader look at the building indicating that the standalone space is probably more than 2/3 kitchen behind the scenes, patrons of Gelateria Ca D'Oro are brought face-to-face with 18 flavors of Gelato and Sorbetti housed in a pair of freezer cases, the cost of approximately €1,50/sccop offering no lack of temptation, small tastes of Coffee, Peach and Amarena Cherry all very good without overwhelming sweetness amidst a dense and smooth base. Entering the shop when it was empty only to see it quickly fill as two families arrived in the early afternoon sun, it was based on personal preference along with a plan to standardize a basis for comparison to other places that a cup of three scoops was selected, the Stracciatella and Pistachio both well-balanced with the former dialed up by crunchy Dark Chocolate ribbons while the later trended nearly savory with the flavor of toasted nuts almost indistinguishable from those fresh from their shells prior to salting. Open from 10h30 to 23h30, perhaps the most extensive hours of any "natural" Gelateria on the island, taste three of the selected trio was an outlier not seen at any place elsewhere during the subsequent seven days from Venice to Parma and Milan, the housemade Ricotta di Bufala lent a gentle degree of sweetness from swirls of Honey as finely ground sesame seeds offered the tiniest bit of grit along with their distinctive savory taste.

Gelato after dinner in Venice is a must. After dinner on our third night in Venice, we we're strolling along a main pedestrian street and found this gelato place. Reasonable prices, fast service and delicious flavors. We gravitated towards chocolate, hazelhut, pistachios and other rich flavors. All were great! There are lots of places for a quick sugar fix around here.

This is by far the most incredible gelato I have ever tasted. It was so good that me and my three…read moregrandchildren at at it three times in one day! The dark chocolate, oh my god, I could just eat it every day for the rest of my life. My grandchildren had the chocolate chip, the lemon and the coconut and couldn't get enough (as well as the dark chocolate)! I also had the pistachio and it was just as amazing! This is most definitely a five-star establishment, but a certain rude employee brought it down. For the first four times I went there (3 in one day!) the man working allowed me to pay for two of the larger cups (2-2 scoops) instead of four small ones. It saved me almost a Euro which was very nice of him. When I went back the fifth time I was charged individually even after telling the person how I was charged before. He was rude and unhelpful and wouldn't allow me to do that same thing and I didn't go back after that, unfortunately. I hope that you won't let one crappy employee keep you from enjoying this treasure, I just couldn't bring myself to go back after that kind of service.

It was near our hotel and had a good variety of flavors so we decided to give it a go. There isn't any seating, so we took ours over to the base of the bridge and sat on the steps by the water. This was our first Gelato experience and I must say I was tickled pink! So yummy! We both decided to get ours in cups, although there is an option to get it in a cone. We got the three scoop option, but there were smaller sizes available if wanted. Naturally, I got three different flavors (gotta take advantage of the three scoops!) - a dark chocolate, mint chip, and a cream/orange flavor that tasted just like a creamsicle. I knew I'd like the chocolate and mint regardless, but wasn't so sure about the orange flavored one. It certainly did not disappoint! My boyfriend was not as adventurous as I however, and just got a chocolate/nutella flavor. He said it was super good though. I think we both ate ours in a matter of minutes. Cost is based on size. I think it was 5 euros for each? Worth it! I am writing this review post trip. I made it a goal to try Gelato in each area I visited during this vacation including Venice, Florence, and Rome. I'd honestly have to say this Gelato stand is a gem and takes the number one spot. Definitely don't miss out!
