Highlights were the pesto mash, which the prawns sat atop, the tuna carpaccio and the smoked salmon. It was beautifully presented and gave us the opportunity to try some things we would never have ordered, like the chopped squid and the fish pancake. We also ordered gnocchi, a salad, monkfish and grilled squid. The service, like most Italian places, was a bit appalling and the slowest we'd experienced anywhere. The order we got the food in was bread, 20 minutes later antipasti, another 20, salad, another 20 the pasta (that we had wanted to share) and the monkfish, another 30 minutes later my boyfriend got his squid. Dear god, we were ready to just ask for the bill, we weren't even sure if some of the food was even coming. It was very hard to understand was they didn't think we wanted the monkfish and the squid as main courses at the same time. The Italians don't seem to understand sharing. The food was fabulous though, worth the wait!

As soon as we were comfortable we were offered an included bottle of Sardinian wine, red or white. Then the food started to flow. Since it is a price fix undisclosed menu each course was a surprise. It started with fresh vegetable crudités and some ham, then the cheese course of hard and soft cheeses. A honey ricotta was just so delicious. Then the charcuterie course of prosciutto, serano and wild boar was served. Several other courses followed but I won't describe them so as not to spoil your experience. Everything was perfectly prepared and served with a relaxed efficiency. The wine was excellent and when we finished it were ordered a different, even better, Sardinian wine. Everyone enjoyed this unique experience and best of all was the price! Only 238€, about $280, for 4 people which in a US city would be anywhere from $500 and up. If you are in Alghero definitely treat yourself to Sa Madra. We will be back!

Pancetta was used differently and well in both the antipasta and the pasta. The pasta was a perfectly cooked linguine with zucchini and eggplant. The wine selection was limited, and the house wine was barely adequate but priced appropriately. The restaurant is small, intimate and in an ancient building in the lower part of the Old Town. Service was pleasant, attentive and spoke English. Prices were consistent with the more well-known restaurants in Bosa.
