    Pistachio pesto gnocchi

I rarely post about restaurants but I can't stop dreaming of the Pistachio Pesto gnocchi. Grab a seat outside, either across the pedestrian street or in the side alley. I came for lunch around 1pm before it got too busy and had no problem getting a seat, but it is worth a wait!

Very friendly service, excellent lunch outside. The food was fresh and delicious. I highly recommended the Liver Crostini and to try the local beer. The pastas were so fresh and delicious.

Il Bargello's menu of classic Tuscan dishes made this casual bar and restaurant a great place to try some local specialties in Sienna, just steps away from Il Campo, the main square. The ribollita was a Tuscan soup made of dried chunks of bread, cannellini beans, and lots of different vegetables including cabbage, carrots, onions, and more. The most distinctive qualities of the hearty soup were its thick texture and slightly sour flavor from the rehydrated bread. Next, I tried the Pici con Ragu di Carne alla Senese. The pici was a thick, hand-rolled pasta noodle with a nice al dente texture, and it came with a simple ragu made of tomatoes and ground meat. Overall, this was a nice place to stop for drinks and a quick bite, and though the portion sizes were small, everything came at a reasonable price!

Amazing lunch find/wine bar in Siena. Best pasta ive ever had in italy. Huge wine selection with affordable tasting options. Highly recommend!

Food and prices are good... but TERRIBLE SERVICE!!! Go somewhere else for a stress-free meal in Siena. We arrived promptly for our 9pm reservation and were only acknowledged by a server after 40min (and after my husband went inside the restaurant TWICE to remind them about us -- we were sat outside at table 3C, which is the last table down the side alleyway)... our starters, water, and 1 beer arrived less than 15min after we were finally greeted by an apologetic server. Pomodoro bruschetta starter was very tasty, as was the salumi starter... Our main dishes were ordered at the same time as our drinks (9:40pm) and arrived at 10:15. Although we waited it out because we expected the main pasta dishes we ordered and to live up to the Yelp and online hype, unfortunately, we were not blown away. Hubby ordered tagliatelle wild boar ragu, son had the cacio & pepe which he enjoyed (luckily he liked it with the bottarga di muggine -- it did not come on the side as we had asked the server), and my other son and I each ordered the truffle tagliatelle. From all the amazing reviews and after our 40 minute wait, we really expected the food to knock our socks off... a bit disappointing. Our server was young and apologized for the wait, but not once came to check on us to see if we wanted more water or another beer... so we rate our experience with the service at this restaurant as 1/10 because of the almost complete lack of service. When we went to pay at the cash register, the single beer on our check was comped and we were not charged for it due to the inconvenience. That was appreciated... but honestly, it was too little too late. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT DUE TO THE AWFUL SERVICE! Today we had lunch at Osteria Permalico (just 2 minutes away) and the service, food, and drinks were all top notch... we should have gone back there for dinner tonight instead of Il Bargello and we recommend that others learn from our mistake!!!

Raw marinated beef with arugula and oregano

This place was amazing! I highly recommend it. In total, one of the best meals I've ever had. First, fresh mozzarella with Tuscan ham, then raw marinated black angus beef with arugula and oregano, then the Siena's kiss desert, and finally an Italian espresso. Oh yeah, a half liter of the house wine thrown in for good measure. Il Bargello in Siena - stop here for sure. Give yourself plenty of time to enjoy the experience.

We stopped in for lunch on a day trip to the city. The staff was very nice and we enjoyed our meal. The prices were very reasonable and the dishes were filling. I would eat here again.

The food, wine, small feel ambiance were a very local feel even though tourists were there as well. Excellent pasta !! We'd sure go again!

Great little restaurant. Try the antipasti salume platter(s). Great price on pasta. Nice choices on wine. Bit small but very local. Enjoy!

My wife and I split the cacio e pepe and it was one of, if not the best, cacio e Pepe I had during my entire trip in Italy!

We ended up here by mistake (confused it with another spot), and unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations. The restaurant fills up with reservations for two seatings, and from the moment we sat down the pace felt rushed. We ordered drinks and a starter while deciding on the rest, but multiple staff members kept coming by trying to take our full order. It felt like they were pushing to move things along quickly. There were a couple positives. The chicken livers to start were quite tasty and something we didn't see often on other menus. The primi were underwhelming. The pasta didn't taste fresh like many other trattorias in Siena, and the dishes overall were just average. The lasagna in particular was mushy, and the sauces didn't stand out. The secondi were slightly better -- pork ribs, Barolo-braised beef, and a "small chicken" -- but still nothing that justified the higher prices. They do have an underground wine cellar built into a cave, which is interesting to see, but there are other places in Siena with much larger and more impressive cellar spaces. Also worth noting, they add a "10% tax" charge rather than the typical €2 coperto per person. Overall, a rushed and fairly mediocre meal at a higher price point. With so many better places to eat in Siena, this is one I'd skip.

As soon as you walk in you will feel like you belong. The food is inexpensive. Be like a true Italian and order in each catagory. TIP-get your vegetable order with your meal and not as a starter. When we got there only one other table was enjoying themselves. By the time we started eating the place was full. I absolutely loved that with the exception of one other table the restaurant had residents that eat there often since they were all known. The restaurant is charming and cozy. The staff made me never want to leave and I wanted to be part of this Italian culture. The prices are unbelievable!!! That is another reason that we ordered to much food. Most likely the least expensive meal we enjoyed while in Italy. My ONLY regret was that we did not save room for dessert. We had already paid when I saw most other tables being served tiramisu. With the food as delicious as it was I can only imagine what the tiramisu must have tasted like. I will 10000% choose to eat here again if we return to Siena. Also from what I have seen in other reviews it seems that the prices are still the same. That is to be applauded.
