If you are wandering around Siena, to which I say lucky you, don't pass up on a meal at this charming ristorante. With its tables spread out along a narrow side street near the city center, the relaxing ambiance wines and dines you straight away. The menu offers all the simple and delicious Tuscan classics your mouth has been waiting for. With the 5 of us we ordered bruschetta, truffle risotto, vegetable risotto, appetito plate, vitello tonnato and fusilli in a spicy tomato sauce (that was not arrabiata but somewhat like it). Delizioso! Their Chianti house wine was amazing, the house white wine was okay. Service was very friendly but slow though I have to add that tables (many reservations it seemed) filled up very quickly and they were very busy. This is more of a sit down and enjoy several courses over several hours type place. The (I think) owner was very helpful and willing to explain and recommend certain dishes. Very disappointing meal. We chose this place based on all of the great Yelp reviews (which I do not understand). Had the Tartagliettelle with truffle. Basically, pasta olive oil and truffle - not very memorable. Had the Ossobucco, it was decent but, have had much better in the US. My wife had veal medallions in lemon. The worst veal I have ever tasted. It almost tasted like liver - horrible. On top of all of that, they charge a 10% service charge (for very unfriendly service). The place was packed. Amazing small family restaurant in a quiet alley of Siena. The refreshing bread salad reminded me of tabbouleh, without the parsley. Pici Casio e Pepe was heavenly and rich. Pici with wild boar sauce was incredibly tasty and filling. House red wine was smooth. I loved our waiter who was very patient with our Italian. The reviews for Cecco are amazing and our concierge highly recommended it. I don't know if we ordered the wrong things but we were all disappointed. The meat dishes (pork and ossobuco) came with no vegetables only the meat. Every other restaurant we've eaten at had fresh sautéed local vegetables as an accompaniment. My osssobuco was tough! Luckily we ordered a side of potatoes. My daughters gnocchi lacked flavor. The prices are good. The menu is only in Italian so translating was difficult. read more

This has been one of my fav Italian spots in Italy. We went here twice this past week. The menu is all in Italian but don't let that discourage you from ordering. I recommend making reservations or arriving right at opening. The place gets busy! Wine: The house red and house white are delicious! Food: They start by serving you complimentary day old salad, which is crumbled up bread overtop of some lettuce and tomatoes. It's actually pretty tasty. I ordered the chicken with creamy mushrooms both times. My husband had the tortellini one night (amazing) and the gnocchi another night. We tried out a few of their salads as well. Really great spot! This was the highlight of our time in Sienna. Tucked away on a quiet street, this restaurant was unassuming interior outdoor seating area, but extremely friendly and warm. Don't be scared off by the Italian-only menu, it's a small hurdle to gain entry to the best food in Siena. We started with the Tuscan Appetizer (assortment of meat & cheese). For entree, I ordered the Tagliatelle with Arugula and Porcini Mushroom - which was both savory & light at the same time. My family ordered: Pici Casio & Pepe (so simple and brilliant), Risotto with Mushroom, Veal Medallions with White Wine Sauce, and Pappardelle and Ragu. Every single dish was beautifully done and delicious. There was not a single morsel left on the plate! My only regret is that we discovered this restaurant late in our visit, otherwise we would have come back each night! Thank you for an amazing dining experience! This is a nice restaurant. It has a nice atmosphere, relatively small, like many of the restaurants in Siena. The service was good, though our waiter didn't have much personality, very much all business. The food was good, I can't say it was great. My wife had veal and I had ossabucco, both were a little overcooked. We started with a bruschetta, which was very good. Very nice restaurant. Good food for a good price. Wife had the truffle risotto. She really liked it, but it was not quite as good as the one she had the following night elsewhere in Siena. I had a gnocchi dish that was pretty good, but could have used a little more flavor. We shared the ossobuco, which I really enjoyed. The house wine was very good, and a great value too. Google became my reliable best bud while in Italy earlier in the month. Whenever I needed a snappy translation, Google was on it for me. Except at Taverna di Cecco. As I tried to decide on a meal, I searched for and translated several menu items with success. Nothing was catching my interest. Then I reached "Pici alla Nando." I had already learned via the Internet that pici is a fat spaghetti with origins in the area. But alla Nando? I had to ask. My server described it as a pasta dish with basil tomato sauce, peppers and buffalo mozzarella cheese. Aside from the peppers, I was game. It sounded like a delightfully light and easy to consume dish. ...Mostly because it was 11:30 PM at the time. It was our third attempt to eat dinner here. The smell (and reviews) lured us in, and we were determined to get a table. So the pici was NOT light, in actuality, but it was the one dish my tablemates slaved over to ensure did not go to waste at all. Not even the sauce! I've never had such a delicious pasta, and I fear I never will again unless I return to Siena and request this meal once more. And I'm totally fine doing that. Who's in? read more

Everything we ordered was excellent. We got here about 7pm, there was no wait. Most locals came around 8pm to 8:30pm. At the end of our meal, the host gave us a few different type of wine to try after we have already paid for the bill. He really wanted us to enjoy and have a good time. This is a place we were lucky to have found, and I would definitely recommend to family and friends. If you don't have a place in mind to go, come check it out and meet the host. This was the best place I have eaten at in the last few weeks traveling through Italy. The absolute friendliest of owners. Pappa di tomate (tomato bread soup) offered at the start and vin santo at the end (or limoncello) gratis. I had the absolute best veal T-bone steak from a 10-month-old steer apparently - divine. This is my second visit to La Taverna di Cecco this trip. Yes, the food is delicious and it's not on the beaten tourist path. Lunch is a good time to come here because you have time afterward to walk off the many delicious piatti. I had spaghetti alla carbonara last time -- wonderful, but a huge serving -- so Gianni says he'll give me half a portion of pasta con pesto today. Update: the pesto was delicious! We found this restaurant by accident while looking for another one. A local shop owner suggested that we go to this one. We were very pleased as all the dishes were "grandma's recipes" who could still be seen in the back of the restaurant working in the kitchen. We were given a free surprise appetizer of crostinis to start our meal. We ordered Veal Marsala, Tortellini with cream sauce, Barley soup and Osso Bucco. Wow! We decided to try this taverna even though it didn't yet have many Yelp reviews and we're very glad we did. The staff greeted us kindly and showed us to a table toward the rear of the restaurant. Our waiter was friendly and patient while we explored the menu. A small plate of Panzanelle was unexpectedly delivered and devoured as our anti pasta. For primi, my wife ordered gnocchi and I ordered pici both with porcini sauce which was outstanding. Secondi was shared scallopine with marsala, veal was cook perfectly and marsala was notable without being overbearing, simply delicious. Dinner was finished with caffe and tiramisu. Pappardelle pomodoro was excellent, then had pears, pecorino and honey yummo, I never had ossa bucca and decided to try it omg my favorite thing so far in Italy. It was fantastic. This place was recommended by Rick Steve's. So glad that we went here. We found a table inside and right soon after we sat down the owner comes and serves us two plates of something he said was homemade. Wow! It was pretty yummy, and we hadn't even ordered yet! We ordered food and a bottle of wine, and we were impressed by how concerned the owner was about the quality of the wine. Took time to sniff the cork and took it back and brought another bottle out because the first one wasn't "good enough". Impressive. Dinner was delicious, and we could tell how hard the owner worked along with the other server. Rick Steve needs to up the rating on this place for sure!! While my boyfriend had paid the bill, I was in the restroom and when I returned my boyfriend had said we weren't done yet. The owner sat three bottles of liquor on the table. Limoncelo, grappa, and something else. Just left them there for us to pour as we like. We hadn't had that at any other place. We expressed our thanks to the owner and how we would have liked to tip him, but he refused it. We didn't want to insult him so we didn't but my boyfriend did express to him how honored we were to have eaten at his restaurant.
