Risotto tartufo
Ellen H.

Well well well if it isn't another great restaurant that Yelp recommended. I thank thee previous reviewers. If you are wandering around Siena, to which I say lucky you, don't pass up on a meal at this charming ristorante. With its tables spread out along a narrow side street near the city center, the relaxing ambiance wines and dines you straight away. The menu offers all the simple and delicious Tuscan classics your mouth has been waiting for. With the 5 of us we ordered bruschetta, truffle risotto, vegetable risotto, appetito plate, vitello tonnato and fusilli in a spicy tomato sauce (that was not arrabiata but somewhat like it). Delizioso! Their Chianti house wine was amazing, the house white wine was okay. Service was very friendly but slow though I have to add that tables (many reservations it seemed) filled up very quickly and they were very busy. This is more of a sit down and enjoy several courses over several hours type place. The (I think) owner was very helpful and willing to explain and recommend certain dishes. The tiramisu and cappuccino were a great end to this tasty meal.

Chicken Cacciatore & grilled vegetables

This was an excellent Italian restaurant. The menu was not just "pizza & pasta". We had chicken cacciatore & grilled vegetables,, which was excellent. Staff was wonderful. We sat outside on a beautiful night in Siena.

The best dining experience in Siena! The food was delicious and our server was very kind and generous with his recommendations. The decor was great, very authentic. I look forward to dining here next time I'm in beautiful Siena.

Pici cacio e Pepe

Amazing small family restaurant in a quiet alley of Siena. The refreshing bread salad reminded me of tabbouleh, without the parsley. Pici Casio e Pepe was heavenly and rich. Pici with wild boar sauce was incredibly tasty and filling. House red wine was smooth. I loved our waiter who was very patient with our Italian. If I am blessed to return to Siena, I would definitely return to Cecco!

This has been one of my fav Italian spots in Italy. We went here twice this past week. The menu is all in Italian but don't let that discourage you from ordering. I recommend making reservations or arriving right at opening. The place gets busy! Wine: The house red and house white are delicious! Food: They start by serving you complimentary day old salad, which is crumbled up bread overtop of some lettuce and tomatoes. It's actually pretty tasty. I ordered the chicken with creamy mushrooms both times. My husband had the tortellini one night (amazing) and the gnocchi another night. We tried out a few of their salads as well. Really great spot! Worth checking it out.

Cacio r pepe

I had the cacio e pepe and the best I've ever had. It was a fraction of what I would pay back home.

Tuscan Appetizer

This was the highlight of our time in Sienna. Tucked away on a quiet street, this restaurant was unassuming interior outdoor seating area, but extremely friendly and warm. Don't be scared off by the Italian-only menu, it's a small hurdle to gain entry to the best food in Siena. We started with the Tuscan Appetizer (assortment of meat & cheese). For entree, I ordered the Tagliatelle with Arugula and Porcini Mushroom - which was both savory & light at the same time. My family ordered: Pici Casio & Pepe (so simple and brilliant), Risotto with Mushroom, Veal Medallions with White Wine Sauce, and Pappardelle and Ragu. Every single dish was beautifully done and delicious. There was not a single morsel left on the plate! My only regret is that we discovered this restaurant late in our visit, otherwise we would have come back each night! Thank you for an amazing dining experience! We hope to be back in Siena to visit again soon.

Veal and zucchini. Best zucchini I've ever had.

Got a room at Etruria and lunch at Cecco. Complimentary bread soup as soon as I was seated was delicious. Wine was outstanding. Bread and veal were excellent. Back again after 3 nights in Florence. Between dinners in Florence and here it really made my two weeks in Italy special. Love this place. The staff, owner and the food make the trip to Siena worth it.

Risotto al Tartufo (black truffle risotto)

Very delicious Tuscan fare! Risotto al Tartufo and Tagliatelle al Tartufo was flavorful and generous. The Bistecca alla Florentina was huge, ...but we finished it all! Service was excellent and the atmosphere was elegant and cozy. We will definitely return when we visit Siena again.

Our server told us that this previously a cave. How often do you get to dine in a cave? The inside of the restaurant is of this stone like space. We were immediately captivated. While it does not currently have a Michelin rating, we were told it previously had a Micheline rating. The atmosphere is that of a cave...cool, a little damp, and intimate. San Guiseppe has wine cellar, according to staff, date back. We felt totally and complete immersed in history and that was only the building. centuries of Sienese life. The cuisine honors Tuscan tradition while elevating it through precision and care. Each dish showcases excellent ingredients and confident execution, embracing regional flavors rather than reinventing them. San Guissppe feature traditional dishes such as handmade pasta, rich sauces, and tenders meats showcasing distinct flavors with bold seasoning. We order lasaguna and cheese salad...absolutely superb! Our servers were superior...waiting on you hand and foot. You did not ask for anything as it was already there. Our server, Marco, was kind, humorous and knowledgeable. Since it was our first time to the restaurant he was super patient and informative regarding menu items. La Taverna di San Giuseppe has s long-term Michelin recognition for a reason...superior food and excellent service in a very unique space. We savored every bite and sip we consumed in San Giuseppe. When we are in Tuscany again, we will make a beeline for this restaurant.

Taverna di San Giuseppe was a disappointing meal for us, especially in a city with so many great…read moredining options. We ended up here by mistake (confused it with another spot), and unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations. The restaurant fills up with reservations for two seatings, and from the moment we sat down the pace felt rushed. We ordered drinks and a starter while deciding on the rest, but multiple staff members kept coming by trying to take our full order. It felt like they were pushing to move things along quickly. There were a couple positives. The chicken livers to start were quite tasty and something we didn't see often on other menus. The primi were underwhelming. The pasta didn't taste fresh like many other trattorias in Siena, and the dishes overall were just average. The lasagna in particular was mushy, and the sauces didn't stand out. The secondi were slightly better -- pork ribs, Barolo-braised beef, and a "small chicken" -- but still nothing that justified the higher prices. They do have an underground wine cellar built into a cave, which is interesting to see, but there are other places in Siena with much larger and more impressive cellar spaces. Also worth noting, they add a "10% tax" charge rather than the typical €2 coperto per person. Overall, a rushed and fairly mediocre meal at a higher price point. With so many better places to eat in Siena, this is one I'd skip.

As soon as you walk in you will feel like you belong. The food is inexpensive. Be like a true Italian and order in each catagory. TIP-get your vegetable order with your meal and not as a starter. When we got there only one other table was enjoying themselves. By the time we started eating the place was full. I absolutely loved that with the exception of one other table the restaurant had residents that eat there often since they were all known. The restaurant is charming and cozy. The staff made me never want to leave and I wanted to be part of this Italian culture. The prices are unbelievable!!! That is another reason that we ordered to much food. Most likely the least expensive meal we enjoyed while in Italy. My ONLY regret was that we did not save room for dessert. We had already paid when I saw most other tables being served tiramisu. With the food as delicious as it was I can only imagine what the tiramisu must have tasted like. I will 10000% choose to eat here again if we return to Siena. Also from what I have seen in other reviews it seems that the prices are still the same. That is to be applauded.

However, it's not a big place and especially if you want to sit outside which you should, try to make a reservation. We had the beef tartare with almonds and truffle. Amazing. And the cheeses were so yummy also. Our main course was beef and the wild boar stew (which was delicious). The tiramisu and the chocolate cake were also great. And for red wine?
