This branch is less frenetic than other Ikeas I've been to. Yeah, it's maze-like the same as all their stores, but parking is easier -- much better than Atlanta -- and the staff is friendlier than what I was used to. It may just be familiarity, but all-in-all I think Conshohocken offers a pretty good shopping experience. Living in a studio with another person, even part-time, offers challenges. With limited square footage, I maximize floor space and -- because aesthetics are important -- keep everything to scale. I solved practical problems with recent Ikea purchases: ** There's little room between our apartment-sized couch and the wall-mounted tv. Most coffee tables are too big, but Ikea stocks a basic parson coffee table that meets my dimensions. A bonus that it's only $29.99! ** Limited storage problems are solved with Ikea boxes designed to store shoes. We hung them inside closets and by the front door, now filled with hats, gloves, underwear, dish towels -- really everything BUT shoes. ** The place is too small for dinner parties, but c'mon over for wine and charcuterie! Two Ikea wine racks one-over-the-other, maximizes space. Functional, plus I like the way it looks. While Ikea is great for college students and folks starting out, the store continues to be a valuable resource for a number of my needs. read more

Amazing Ikea located in the Consohocken area that is closer to Bjs and Home Depot, this one has a private parking lot. Visited this location to get some work desk and furniture. There are lot of items on floor display and great set of sample rooms with several combinations to make some decisions. There are front outdoor parking or indoor garage parking in back side. Collections are amazing for furniture and able to make several combinations. Prizes are great and so is quality. The restaurant is a big plus with lot of choices and priced reasonable. Good thing is that we can also check stock online prior to heading to the store. read more

Its an Ikea, for sure. I went here to go find furniture for my new apartment. I suppose if I were going it alone, i'd be mildly confused, but then again Ikea isn't exactly your normal retail outlet. The showrooms are wonderfully designed. Whilst I didn't have a single interaction with any of the employees--I also work retail, so I kind of made it my goal to bother as little people as possible. All and all I made away with a couch, ottoman, plates, a bedframe, cushions for my couch, and countless other little bits and trinkets you don't think about until you don't have them for a little over 700 bucks. Not bad. Course, I bought stuff that was on yellow-tag clearance, but still. In this economy, walking out with all that stuff for less than a grand feels like a fools errand. read more

After a flood that took out the basement last year, we needed to replace a ton of furniture that got eaten by dangerous mold spores. Queue a family trip to IKEA, the amusement park equivalent in the commercial furniture industry. As an industrial designer who used to design furniture and office equipment, I've always loved touring the showrooms and taking a close look at the products here. It's great being able to see and test things out before committing to purchasing them. I recommend giving yourself plenty of time to meander the floor as it's easy to get distracted and sidetracked! Due to the wear on the floor samples though, we did spot some broken furniture, and my mother nearly had a mishap on a chair that was unexpectedly coming apart at the seams. I'm not sure what the standards are on checking to make sure samples are safe for the public to test, but we let an employee know about that particular chair. Based on my recent experiences here, I think the floor units should be switched out more frequently or inspected more often (especially chairs). Children, in particular, seem to go nuts here and jump or crash on everything. Note to parents of small children -- please be aware that samples can be worn and pose a safety issue, and to please prevent them from wreaking havoc if they are so inclined. To everyone else testing floor samples, inspect it before you test it! Another accessibility and safety issue I noticed is the lack of contrast on the gray stairs. Especially for people who are visually-impaired, the gray stairs can be very dangerous navigating. It's easy to miss a step you can't see or discern. Even for people who do not have vision concerns, the lack of contrast can still make the steps hard to see, especially under flat indoor lighting. I wish I'd taken a photo of that this time around. Anyway, stay vigilant, mind the gap, and if you see something, say something! Now go have fun. read more

The elevators at this store do not run well at all. They rock, shake, and vibrate harshly while moving, and they do not level properly. Well, with the exception of the elevators that go from the merchandise pickup area to the parking garage (elevator #9 and elevator #10). But as for the elevators that serve the showroom and marketplace and entrance (elevator #1, elevator #2, and elevator #4), they are the absolute definition of death trap. They not only ride rough, they have door glitches too. The worst part is, when I complained to management, they did squat. The store itself also violates Montgomery County Code, as it does not have exit signs mounted low to the ground. Unbelievable. Go to the IKEA in South Philadelphia. Admittedly, I hadn't been to an IKEA probably in this millennium or if it was it had been 15+ years. What I had forgotten about is that you really need to adjust how you shop when you come here. If not, you're probably going to leave frustrated and/or annoyed. A few Captain Obvious observations: The store is large. Very easy to walk in circles or as my Yelp friend Gerald said correctly in his review, play chutes and ladders trying to read their idiotic store maps if you want/need to leave/just get to the checkout/bypass eight sections of things you don't care about. Need help? Good f-ing luck. Aside from a few employees downstairs near the registers or the warehouse section where you actually pick up/select what you want, there was next to no one on the second floor and that second floor had a crap ton of customers milling around for it being 11am on a weekday. To me you can have a good experience if you're looking for something very, very niche and/or you've pre-gamed on the website and know it exists and/or you know EXACTLY what you want when you get to the store (assuming when you get to the store they have what you want in stock). But just coming in to browse? Hell. No. I mean I guess IKEA figured out years ago how frustrating the shopping experience is at their stores which is why they offer a restaurant and food here. You might die of starvation without it because it took so long to find what you came for plus you probably couldn't find the exit. Overall I guess for some people this place is nirvana for cheap pre-made crap that looks "nice". Thanks but I'll pay more to shop elsewhere. read more

You truly can never go wrong with IKEA. IKEA is such a classic with such a vast store with options for days. Driving up this IKEA, I was greeted by the standard blue and yellow exterior. Walking in I got the sense that I was in a parallel dimension where it just felt like comfort. I could post about IKEA for days, but my thoughts are a couple. 1.) There was a lot of items missing from this location which made it inconvenient 2.) The food court is a classic - inexpensive, bland, but a vital part of IKEA. It also didn't offer pick up at the store closes to me. It did provide this location as a choice for pick up so I decided I'd go there over the weekend since it's not near me, at all. I would have preferred to order for pick up so it would be ready but it assigns you a day and two hour window for pick up. It doesn't feel very customer friendly. Long story short, they didn't have what I wanted in stock. I wasn't happy. I purchased them in a different color, but I wasn't thrilled. Similar to Pastrami, you really have to be in the mood for IKEA since there's really no easy way to get from here to there in this serpentine of a store. Follow the arrows, be good boys and girls and eventually you'll make it to the $49 office chairs and impossibly cheap plastic palm trees cheekily named Fjord and Findeglaad respectively. Luckily I was in the mood and glided past the inflatable couches and balsa wood bedding designed by the Marquis de Sade himself. We picked up a few houseware items and scent diffusers just to make the drive worthwhile. And I kept cheering myself up reminding me how much I prefer this location to the usual bedlam in their Elizabeth or Philadelphia locations. What we didn't appreciate was their constant braying about safety and distance over the store sound system only to be delivered into a madhouse at checkout where only five of fifteen lanes were staffed (to maintain distance) but customers were logjammed in the queue. What's the word for stupidity in Swedish? I don't mind waiting in the interest of safety but don't brag about how you have pandemic retail down to a science and then blow yourself up at the end. Omtöcknod is the word I'm looking for. I think I'll pass on a return visit until I get my jab of the vaccine. read more

There are so many cute little set up model rooms and so many cool things to buy. I went here with my mother and it was a wonderful time. "You'll be hearing from the store re delivery in 48 hours." March 17/18th - called customer service. "Where is it? Heard nothing from store". I was told that the store said they're not aware of having to ship it because it was bought online". By end of conversation, I was told "you'll have it delivered on Thursday." THAT IS TODAY. I cleared my schedule to sit home and wait. I just called customer service, explained that I have heard NOTHING from the store regarding todays delivery, AGAIN, and today is delivery day. I was told "We need a picture". (The picture that was sent back on March 12th by customer service rep) NOW YOU WANT A PICTURE? AFTER TELLING ME TWICE IT WAS BEING DELIVERED (AKA Approved for replacement). I said no. Ikea has taken so much of my time, going around and around on their website, talking to customer service reps, being lied to over and over again, and sitting home today waiting for a delivery that was never scheduled. Meanwhile, my back room, the main exit/entrance, has stacks of ikea parts and sections assembled. Once again, I was told I will hear from Ikea in 24-48 hours. Hey IKEA?!!! On Monday, March 24th? The woman in the cafeteria was not helpful when I said I didn't have my IKEA Family card. She was rude about it and offered no assistance. The woman at checkout was just as rude. As she was scanning my items she looked at me and said, "you need to move your stuff so I can scan it." As I'm standing there arms full, a shopping cart and push cart packed with goods. Great week at IKEA. They had a spring break series of events this week for kids out of school. Each day a different craft was featured. Today they did glass frame painting. You paint on plastic glass and can slide the painting in the frame they give you. My grandson loved it. The staff working these events were super friendly. The events were free. I enjoyed my pre craft lunch today. The salmon was perfectly cooked and the dill sauce was very tasty. The vegetables were fresh and not over cooked. The potato pancake was also tasty but on the cool side my grandson always enjoys his kid portion of chicken tenders and fries which he almost always cleans the plate. The portion is a good size and the price is right. After crafts and lunch we enjoyed the $1 soft serve cones and the free samples of hazelnut chocolate. read more

First timers and we had no idea how it worked! Basically you walk through winding aisles of really nice kitchen, bedroom, closet, etc displays. You cannot buy anything off of the display. You have to wait until you get to the end and visit the "Marketplace" where everything is available for purchase. I picked up a few mini poinsettias but when I got to the register I was told one was a "display" (but I got it from the Marketplace with the many others they had on the shelf for purchase!) and the cashier threw it in a bin under her register! If I wanted another, I'd have to go back and grab one and wait in their long lines. Nope. Wasn't worth it! I bought a dresser from the Conshohocken, PA store. The top piece had a deep scratch out of the box, so exchanged it 2 days later. Found out the next day upon trying to assemble that the replacement top was machined wrong, so errant screw holes wouldn't allow assembly. Took 2nd top back next day to exchange, and dealt with a pleasant representative and a manager, who discounted me $50 (upon my request) for my time and gas in having to make multiple exchanges to that point, as my drive was 30 minutes each way and gas is $3.55/gallon and driving an SUV. Unfortunately, I was then given a cracked part as the 3rd top, so I asked to exchange yet again while still at the store. When a 4th one came out of the stock room with finish issues (an employee even noted it looked like it had been filled somehow), I politely asked for yet another. The look of dread on the faces of the 3 or 4 employees standing there in that I would ask such a thing was evident. One woman became frustrated and declared, "We can't just keep taking these out of stock! He has had 3 of these now! I'm calling the manager." A manager showed up and had a sidebar with the employee before speaking to me. The manager told me that she would not exchange the top again and that I could have a 10% discount to make it a "final sale" (so that I would essentially go away) and would not be returnable, or that I could take the marred top home and if I decide I don't like it that I could bring the whole unit back for a refund, which made no sense. I told her that I was not happy in the moment, so I wouldn't be happy later, and was already in the store to resolve the issue in the current moment directly with her. She told me that if I wasn't happy with the ones exchanged to me already that I wouldn't be happy with the next one. I told her the finishes on all of the others were good, except for the other defects, so that her claim didn't hold any merit. She was not willing to work with me, and when I said to her that I feel as if IKEA's defective parts were being held against me, where I am being made to feel like I am somehow being a difficult customer in my reasonable attempt to be accommodated for a top that was actually not a blem or defect, she essentially blew it off and wouldn't engage with me beyond saying that I was accommodated multiple times already. She pretty much gave me an ultimatum to take it or leave it, where IKEA's lack of quality control was made to seem acceptable. While the experience started off well with the first representative and first manager, there was little empathy or good customer service after by the others. I was polite and courteous to all I interacted with and came in to do this transaction at a time when the return department was not busy. read more

Their displays and the size of the store are truly impressive. What is NOT impressive is how anything you want is always out of stock and even worse, unable to order! We have had this happen on at least 6 occasions on everything from lighting fixtures to dressers to an easel for my son's room. It's unfortunate that they create beautiful displays that no one can recreate because they are never adequately stocked. P.s. just today went there to buy a dozen or so plush dinosaurs for my son's 3rd birthday. Would you know that there were at least 40 on display but they wouldn't sell me a single one that was ziptied to the shelf? I love Ikea. If I have some time, it can be fun to explore. I love the small breakfast to get the day going. There are so many hidden gems in Ikea; however, with some of the items you get what you pay for and that's why the online reviews are helpful to check out before buying an item. If I have to go back for an item I forgot, I look it up online and it says where the item is located. I used to be able to get in and out quickly, but lately that hasn't been the case. My only complaint about IKEA is how long the lines are in check out and how few cashiers they have for check out. It used to be worse a year ago. There have been times where I have put down my stuff and just left it at IKEA. I know most people suck it up because Ikea is a time commitment. It also takes forever to check out because customers usually just moved and are stressed and cannot think straight. We've all been there, but I'll admit seeing the IKEA melt downs make it worth the trip. read more

It's difficult to walk around an Ikea without constantly wondering if you need the items in front of you. I was consistently surprised at how low the price was for every item there. I came here to buy a dresser and ended up leaving with much, much more than that. The Conshohocken Ikea is clean, the people are friendly, and the food was great. I was hangry from moving all day so I ordered two meals - the classic Swedish meatballs and the smoked salmon plate. The best part was, I got those two full meals for around $10. They also sell a lot of the food they serve at the marketplace downstairs. IKEA ONLINE GIFT CARD REVIEW Claimed to refund my $100 gift card 11 days ago. My bank did due diligence and made sure they definitely didn't receive anything. A male customer service agent who wouldn't give his name and a female CS agent named Gabby both claimed the refund was made, citing an e-mail claiming so as proof. Both hung up on me as I protested that this was not so. I found a number for customer service escalation - *******209 - and spoke to someone who discovered that indeed no refund case had ever been created and as of today they are creating and escalating a case. However, it is beyond belief that a company would a) send a refund confirmation letter and never actually act to process a refund and b) that two customer service reps would refuse to transfer me to a supervisor and hang up on a paying customer. This IKEA retail location has ample parking, an area to have kids babysat (which I have never seen) - the Plymouth Meeting location (now closed) had a ballroom. There is a cafeteria with inexpensive, generally tasty dishes (though sometimes underwhelming in flavor). At one point they had dance lessons there, but every so often there are special events hosted on-site (see their web site for details). Most everything in IKEA is DIY, or Do It Yourself, from browsing the showroom's mock kitchens and bedrooms - which can be fun to get decorating ideas and to discover odd items you didn't know you wanted - to picking up the furniture you want from the warehouse, to assembling that bookshelf you bought. There are IKEA staff around to help you with planning and decorating your home or office. For a fee, the store can ship any products to your home, and/or hire an in-home assembly service to do the dirty work of messing with that hex wrench. I like IKEA for their straightforward, approachable designs. Not all of their products are dirt cheap, and some are made less robust than one would like, but take a look, you'll probably find something you like! This place is slowly taking a decline for two main reasons. 1) Less variety There is a smaller variety than they've had in the past (For example, I was looking for shower curtains. Last year around this time, they had curtains in almost every color of the rainbow. This year they had 2 solid colors and 2 patterns (with those two colors) Very disappointing!) 2) Crowds. Word must be out because it's been so crowded the last few times I've been here! I've tried going different times of the day, but haven't been able to avoid the bulk of the masses yet. When all I'm buying is a pack of tealights or chocolate, I'd like to wait in a line of less than 10 people with 20 things apiece. Okay, thanks.
