This review is specifically for their kitchen services. If you are planning on working with Ikea to remodel your kitchen, don't do it! I unfortunately had a bad experience with one associate named Jonathon, and it just soured my whole experience with them. Also, I paid for their installers to come measure, and I get there, and the designer starts complaining about the measurements! Saying that it did not make sense. After spending three hours (!) with the designer, I finally get a design, which he then could not send to me digitally for who knows what reason. There was one space left that I needed to make a decision on, and after talking to three different kitchen associates and being told that I didn't need an appointment if I was just going to make a change to the design, I decided to go in only to be met by Jonathon who essentially didn't care that three of his colleagues had told me that I could come in to make a design change. He said he was alone (even though there was someone else there working with a customer), and that he couldn't help me because the change was going to affect more than one cabinet. Of course none of this was explained to me by the three other people who I spoke with so it just seemed like he was making things up or was, for whatever reason, not willing to help me? Because I'm Asian? Just makes you wonder sometimes why you seem to be singled out and treated poorly. It wasn't as if there was a line of customers waiting to be helped! Maybe he needed to check his personal email? God forbid he actually do his job and help a customer! Also, check out the complaints against Traemand on the better business bureau's website. IKEA calls it a restaurant, I would call it a cafeteria. You queue in line; grab a cafeteria tray; grab a dessert, salad, or other pre-portioned side dish in the refrigerated cases; make your way to the hot-dish area where you tell the foodservice worker which meal you want (meatballs, fish, mac-n-cheese, etc.); grab an empty beverage cup; pay; fetch your own drink, silverware, napkins; eat; bus your own table by taking plates and garbage to the Tray Return area. If you are spending a lengthy amount of time at IKEA or have impatient kids, then the cafeteria is a decent place to take a break, rest, and eat. The cafeteria is on the second floor, and one wall has very large wall-to-wall windows that overlook the parking lot. For me, the quality of the food seems to have declined. I remember years ago being really satisfied with the Swedish Meatball dinner, but now it just seems kind of Meh-Okay. Or maybe it's just that my own Swedish Meatball recipe is tastier. The Swedish Meatball dinner comes with 8 meatballs. I seem to recall in years past, that it came with 10 or 12 meatballs. It is a GOOD VALUE though... a very filling lunch of Swedish Meatballs, mashed potatoes, vegetable, and lingonberry sauce for $4.99 plus tax (sans drink). As far as the meatballs, you have the choice of the standard pork-and-beef, chicken, or vegetarian. I sampled a vegetarian meatball and it was pretty good. They do offer other items but I couldn't tell you what they are--never checked them out, lol. After all, it is IKEA so it only seems fitting to have SWEDISH MEATBALLS !! While the food is average (what you expect from a cafeteria), I must say the dessert was amazing, something you would find in mom-n-pop bakery. We had the Almond Cake with Chocolate. We recently left Ikea in Bolingbrook with tears of joy recently all because of your wonderful sales coworker Phil in the Living Room department . You see, we are educators from Ukraine who are living with relations in the Chicago because of war . We have only been here short time and do not know about living here too much . Phil was very helpful in letting us understand IKEA but also walked us through the store assisting us with our purchases and making sure that we understood function of each item. As we ended our interaction , Phil asked us more about life in Ukraine and then spoke " Slava Ukrani" which means Glory to Ukraine . We cried on the way home. It's not everyday I eat at IKEA, but when I do, it usually starts off with me thinking of how I should do it more often, then ends with swearing to never do it again. But those 99-cent non-fat frozen yogurt cones, y'all. They get me EVERY.DAMN.TIME. Even when I'm able to resist and make it past the first floor fro-yo station, the dagnabbit stupid Ikea maze always leads me to the second floor cafeteria fro-yo station. To be fair, the fro-yo cones are probably the best and most easily pronounced thing Ikea sells, so I don't feel bad about getting one cone right when I come here and another for the road because everyone knows shopping at Ikea is stressful as hell and I'm a stress eater. The cafeteria food beyond the fro-yo isn't the worst thing ever, but it's borderline terrible... which means that the first few bites are stomach-able, but half-way in there's a lot of regrets, perhaps some sweating, and the sinking feeling that your pizza crust may contain pieces of cost-effective particle board. The only exception (besides the first exception of fro-yo) are the Swedish meatballs... because those are basically the Swedish equivalent of pizza... which I realize is a confusing thing to reference given I also used pizza in an earlier example in this review, but think of their Swedish meatballs in the sense that even when they're bad, they're still pretty good. In the end, it's Ikea. You probably came for the furniture, and stayed because you got lost in their maze and need to replenish your lost fluids and nutrients in their cafeteria that serves food that kind of tastes like their furniture. read more

The whole family (all 5 of us) met up for IKEA's Midsummer Smorgasbord. The price was reasonable (12.95 each) and the food was ok. They had crayfish, which I adore, some smoked salmon, several kinds of herring, and an array of other things. One problem I had was nobody was cleaning up the smorgasbord table. There was lots of spills and it made the food less appetizing. If I lived near by, I might try it again at Christmas. (I'm told they decorate at Xmas). We were already hungry when we arrived at IKEA, which was our first mistake. As soon as we walked in, I saw a sign promising colorful images of delicious-looking food. We walked through IKEA, looking forward to when we would discover the delicious aromatic food. We finally found a cafeteria area, but it was almost completely empty. There were no workers in sight even though the store didn't close for two more hours. It was confusing. Was the food area open or not? There were no signs to indicate either way. We peered over at the food, which looked seriously unappetizing. There were some pre wrapped meals with plastic wrap covering them that really didn't get me excited about eating there. The food looked sad, like it had been sitting there all day. Even though my stomach was rumbling, I was secretly thankful no one seemed around to serve us because the food didn't look good at all. The cinnamon buns get an A+, though! These were available at a stand located right next to the doors after going through the cash register area. I had heard about these and knew they weren't to be missed. For just $1, we split a big cinnamon bun, hot, gist, and fresh out of the oven. These aren't to be missed! The bun definitely redeemed my otherwise lackluster experience with the cafeteria situation at IKEA. Perfect for when you are at Ikea all day and need a break. The food isn't spectacular. I wouldn't suggest coming here just to eat lunch and leave. Pretty good food for the buffet, large scale, food line process though. Obviously the Swedish Meatballs are probably the best selling item but they actually have a lot more. If I ever need to stop in Ikea to get some things and I have my child with me - I make sure to come on a Tuesday. Tuesdays kids eat free with a purchase of an adult meal. My girl certainly loves her carbs so I usually get her the pasta with a side of garlic bread. She is in heaven with that meal! The pops are not your typical Pepsi or Coca Cola brands FYI. You can get a cola, diet cola, pear soda, orange soda, etc. Cheap meal while shopping, good hot coffee, and chocolate cake... what more would you need? It's IKEA. A wonderful place for low to middle income people to get stylish furniture. What's not to love? Throw in some very low-priced food that is warm and tasty, and I don't see how anyone could complain. It's not an overwhelmingly personalized process - go through the line, get your food and seat yourself - but for a furniture store, again, how can you complain about simple and efficient. Well, I went to Ikea restaurant today, on September 24th 2015 the line was a little bit long , about 7 people in front of me ,there was only one guy working ,he was an African American guy, and the reason why , I say that is because, there was another guy there , a white guy , and it was really funny cuz ,he looked at the line how long it was and left , I was thinking to myself, where in a heck is he going, can you believe he didn't come back for like 10 minutes, so, the first guy helped everybody , the last time I was there, a woman there gave me an ice cream, I think it was for like a three year old toddler, didn't even have one complete turn of ice cream, check out the ice cream this brother gave me now, that's an ice cream that makes up for last time, he was very nice, humble and that's two qualities I really like, I give ikea 3 stars because management should have paid more attention to this guy working alone and getting someone to help him but I give him 5 stars read more

The store is a little bit of a maze to walk through if you are in a hurry. If you pay attention there are cut through doors on the walls. The cookware is a good price and the quality has been good. Have bought furniture a couple of times and it has been ok. You definitely get more than you pay for. Assembly goes pretty smooth if you are ok at following pictures for directions. My daughter bought some furniture for her dorm room and had no problem putting it together. Bought some closet organizers with drawers and shelfs about 4 years ago and they have held up well. They have a lot of ideas for closet ideas. Sales people can be a little hard to find and getting help to load stuff into you car also. read more

The food section has always been disappointing and we will definitely not eat there in the future. We have been there many times during non rush hour and they have not been able to serve me a complete meal due to machine broke down or ran out of food. Ikea restaurant USED to be good. What a wonderful start to a Saturday shopping experience this USED to be. Good food, fresh with generous portions. What you get now is what you would get on a budget airline that was close to bankruptcy. Food never hot, portion sized reduced, menu choices reduced. Far and away the worst dining experience we've had at any IKEA. We were here on a Saturday at dinner. - There were no tray carts and when I looked all over the restaurant I only saw a few in use. Where did they all go? - The cold food displays (where you get the salads and desserts) were almost completely empty and there was no sign of restocking. - We waited over 30 minutes in line just to get to the hot food serving station. - At the hot food station there was ONE person serving with others occasionally helping out - and not a lot of help with restocking food. This was during dinner rush?! Seems like every other IKEA I've been to, there are 2-3 people serving up plates. - At least the food itself was to usual IKEA standard. Good for breakfast, especially the pancakes and the coffee, but otherwise think of it as more of a good snack bar than a place to get a full meal. The ingredients are generally quite good but sometimes the preparation ends up being a little bit under-heated-hot-table-ish. Came here on a Saturday and was hungry so we wanted to check out those meatballs. Everything there is inexpensive so that was great. However, there was a long line yet there was only one person serving the food. We got the Swedish meatball, chicken tenders and fries, apply pie cake, soup, juices, and vegetable balls. The Swedish meatballs were good and the sauce for the vegetable balls had a really good flavor. Unfortunately, the vegetable balls were cold. I didn't bother complaining at that time but it was definitely a big disappointment. Food can be not good, but please do not let it be cold. Very disappointing. read more

Since the best place to get Swedish pancakes is an hour drive for me, I come here mainly for the coffee and Swedish pancakes. The coffee is terrific and the pancakes are okay. Their Swedish meatballs are also yummy. The food is pretty good and worth 3 stars, considering this is a cafeteria. The incredibly cheap prices (Swedish pancakes $1.99) should add another star, but today I discovered that they replaced the normal coffee mugs with paper cups (back to 3 stars). I thought the Swedes are more environmentally than that. The Swedish meatballs, the steamed vegetables, and the mashed potatoes are very good. I'm knocking this review down a couple stars because the decor could use some sprucing up. The furniture is definitely modern, but something about the layout seems off. I'm not a huge fan of the cafeteria vibes going on here. It kind of reminds me of a hospital or elementary school, which IKEA is neither of. The workers also don't seem thrilled to be here. I love visiting the Ikea Restaurant because the Swedish meatballs are the best around! And so cheap! Last time I ate there the cashier went out of her way to help me get the best deal possible...free dessert with an entree on Wednesdays and I didn't even realize it.
