This is a hard review to write. I hired Katherine to hand-write names on 80 table placecards for…read moreour July wedding. She charges $1 per placecard (invitation set prices are higher). She responded promptly to my emails and has a detailed website with calligraphy samples, so I felt I had a good idea of what I was getting into. I had our table placecards custom designed- they were ecru matte cardstock with a skyline image of chicago covering the bottom 1/3 of the image. The Sears Tower (where we held our wedding) appeared on the right side of the placecard, extending almost to the top of the placecard. The most important thing that I explained to her is that instead of doing table numbers, we did Chicago neighborhoods, and these neighborhood names were pre-printed on the bottom of each card in the skyline. I gave Katherine a detailed spreadsheet of each guest, their meal choice, and the neighborhood table they were seated at. She called a few days later to tell me the order was complete and we set a time for me to pick them up. When I saw the cards, my heart sank. Although the penmanship was nearly perfect (beautiful!) she wrote the names near the bottom of the card, covering the skyline. Even worse, she had been directed to put a B (for beef), C (for chicken) or V (for veggie) on the card. She put the letter on the top of the Sears Tower, covering about 1/8 of it and making the fact that it was a Sears Tower much harder to distinguish. If I did this again, I would have asked for a sample on our placecard first to be sure she was doing exactly what I expected. I suppose I was wrong to assume that she would write in the cream space above the skyline and put the meal choice in the upper left, leaving the Sears Tower unobstructed. But I had presumed that if your business is artistic like this, you would have the good sense to know where to write the names. Two stars because she is very nice, and has great hand-writing. Three stars taken away for no asthetic sense, which I believe is an important part of her job. If you choose to work with her, get a sample of your specific piece before you commit!

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel obligated to warn other couples about our experience…read morewith Eventful Designs. We hired Christy for our wedding invitations with a budget of over $3,000, expecting professional service and a beautiful finished product. What we received was an absolute nightmare that has left us scrambling the night before our invitations need to go out. The invitations arrived completely unassembled. When I questioned this, I was informed there was a $400 assembly fee that was never mentioned or discussed during our consultations. Any professional vendor would have been crystal clear about this upfront rather than springing it on clients at delivery. The belly bands we had discussed were also missing entirely. When I brought this up, I was told it was noted as "something discussed but not finalized." If there was any question about what was included in our order, that should have been clarified before production--not left for us to discover when it's too late. We're mailing these invitations later than planned largely because Christy took an unusually long time to replicate a simple pattern, even though we provided her with an exact example of what we wanted. The back-and-forth added weeks to the process. We're now forced to spend our evening doing the assembly work ourselves that we paid over $3,000 for. What was supposed to be a fun family activity stuffing invitations has turned into a stressful project frantically completing work a professional was hired to do. Our invitations will now look homemade despite the premium price tag. When I expressed how unacceptable this situation was, Christy offered a $250 refund. On an order over $3,000 where we're doing the assembly work ourselves with missing components? That's insulting. When I pushed back, she refused to offer more and suggested we could drive to her location to have her complete them or have someone pick them up--which doesn't work with our work schedules or mailing timeline. Her final email essentially said "take it or leave it" and wished us well. No real accountability, no genuine effort to make this right. Just a complete lack of professionalism and customer service throughout the entire process. We are now consulting with an attorney about our options given that we did not receive the complete services we paid for. If you want clear, upfront communication about pricing and what's included, a vendor who follows through on commitments, professional service worthy of premium pricing, to actually receive a finished product, and less stress during wedding planning--look elsewhere. There are plenty of invitation designers who will treat you professionally and deliver what they promise. Eventful Designs is not one of them. Save yourself thousands of dollars and countless hours of stress. We deeply regret choosing this vendor and wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

In a sea of craziness, Stephanie was the sweet, kind calm calligrapher who gave me exactly what we wanted with her modern and contemporary style. I truly lucked out with this Yelp find. She was amazing. But that wasn't all. She went above and beyond. A couple weeks before our wedding, we lost one of our labradors suddenly. Obviously our labs were important to us and Stephanie knew that since we had about 200 black and chocolate colored mini lab place cards that would be set up with a dog house and other related items. Each of our labs was also going to get their own card and be positioned near the dog house just for fun. Well, Stephanie took it upon herself to create lil gold wings for the lab we lost and did the same for another lab we lost earlier. Both were set up on a mini rainbow bridge. Fab calligraphy aside...she won me over with this act of kindness. xo

We received many compliments from our guests on the beautiful board. Stephanie gave us the option of her buying the board and staining it, but we decided to do it ourselves. We're so glad we had her do our calligraphy...it was a nice touch that helped us immensely.
