I went for dinner and was so happy with it that I made sure that I came back in the morning for breakfast which I was not disappointed once again. But the place, though worn, is spotlessly clean. The food that they prepare is all scratch made to order. So don't be impatient it's well worth the wait. My wife had corn dogs and fries. The corn dogs had a wonderful crunchy cornmeal crust that reminded me of my childhood (I'm pushing 70). I had the patty melt that had a very tasty yet unknown cheese that was so melty that I loved the sandwich. Iron Horse was always a favorite. It's now under new ownership and there are changes to the menu, but in a good way. It now has Asian items on the menu, which I'm excited to try next time. My husband and I had the smash burgers, which were excellent. The fries were crispy and delicious. My son had the 4 oz sirloin and collard greens. His steak was cooked perfectly and the collards were some of the best we have had! There is no liquor by the drink sales in Hot Springs, so I was impressed by the sake margarita. I'll be craving that again for sure! The ambiance of this place is different since the flood. I hated that the original bar, floors, and booths got destroyed, but they did a very good job with the decor. The bar is much bigger now and the space feels more open. She was welcoming, accommodating and personalable. We loved getting to Know Danielle! (Prayers for Caden!) She made sure my Husband and I were filled up on coffee and drinks while we were enjoying our Homecooked meal. I cannot Say ENOUGH good things about this Beyond Hospitable Waitress. Actually, the whole entire team that we met, were just absolutely BEYOND REMARKABLE. From the ARMY dude "Johnson" to Mrs. Freda who sat us and also gave us Great Conversation... I would be BEYOND proud of this Homey Restaurant, if I were it's Owner. Freda gave us the Amazing background on how this place came to be about 14 years ago. And you can just hear how proud she is of this Beautiful Hidden Gem and how far it has come. Thank you for Freda, for the Great Welcoming atmosphere. You're so warm and your Service is Wonderful. "JOHNSON"- We hope to one day see your coat of many colors... and we are hoping to see your "New and Improved Military Attire!!" Haha!! We loved hearing the employees bless each other with Good, Edifying Words. We did Not hear ONE swear word. It's SO Family Friendly. They gave our Son like 6 crayons to color with, and d they have high chairs. Everything on the menu sounded SO delicious. My Husbamd and I were given gift certificates for Our Anniversary, so we had decided to "treat ourselves" with the Fried Green Maters and the Spinach Articoke Dip! HOLY COW. Their Spinach Artichoke recipe is better than mine... And the Fried Green Maters were just ABSOLUTELY MINDBLOWING. (This was our first time ever trying them- EVER) The Creamy Mustard they give you with it is smooth and tangy. Whereas the Ranch based sauce was our Favorite and Packed with Flavor that just intensified the flavor of the Maters!!! Astounding. We have never ate such Great Food. (The Burps were just as good!! Haha! ) The Quality and Price of the food are beyond Enjoyable. And VERY LOW PRICED!! The Philly Cheese steak was wonderful and My Husbands Reuban was SO big he couldn't even wrap his mouth around it. Safe to say, we left SO full. And with 4 boxes of Leftovers. We Cannot WAIT to come back. Get your Loved Ones ain't Certificate, and Prepare to have your minds BLOWN. WE WILL BE BACK SOON AND WE Are REALLY looking forward to it. The food was so delectable, we were sad when all the leftovers were gone.NEVER ATE FOOD THAT TASTY OR EVER HAD REMARKABLE SERVICE LIKE THAT. THE FOOD WAS SO GOOD, We even tipped the cooks. We have never had food taste like that, and we have been thinking about it ever since we went. Loved the Signage and Christian Music. This Place is Perfect. God Bless the Owners, Cooks, and ALL the Staff here at this Restaurant. My Recommendations: -FRIED GREEN TOMATOES WITH THE SAUCES... YOU'LL BE THINKING ABOUT IT FOR DAYS!! - Spinach Artichoke Dip!! I have NO words... -Coffee was brewed Fresh and Hot with Robust Taste! -Hot Dogs (for kids) with the Mac N Cheese... our Son LOVED it!! -The Steak Tips, with Onions and Peppers. As for the food, I ordered the crab sandwich and was disappointed. It lacked flavor, and I encountered several pieces of crab shell while eating it. My daughter ordered the pulled pork sandwich and really enjoyed it. She wasn't a fan of the mac and cheese, finding it bland, but the mashed potatoes were very good. For takeout, I ordered the Steak Philly Cheese Hoagie with Fries ($9.95 plus tax) My food was hot & ready to go in 10 minutes, ketchup provided too. The 12" Hoagie was cut in halves and loaded heavy with lots of melted cheese, shaved grilled steak, sauteed onions & mushrooms on a soft thick sub roll. The golden fries were very hot and lightly salted. Overall, Carter's Corner was a good detour lunch stop for a very filling steak & cheese sub with fries at a reasonable price and friendly service. I was in Hot Springs for a couple of days on section hike of the Appalachian Trail. I stopped in to…read moreeat 3 different meals there over the course of three days. Day 1: Lunch. Another hiker and I decided to stop in as we got to town and have a late lunch. It had been a couple of days since we'd had town food and we were tired and hungry. The first thing I noticed was the wait to be seated. We waited about 20 minutes, and once we got to the dining area, there were several empty tables. Once we're seated and ordered, the food came out timely and was delicious. I had a cheeseburger and the cherry cobbler with ice cream. Day 2: Breakfast. Since the food was good, we decided to go back for breakfast again the next day. Again, there was a wait to be seated. We were a group of 5 so we expected there might be a wait. The waitress was friendly and our orders were placed quickly. it did take a while for the food to come out from the kitchen. I had a country breakfast plate with ham. Again the food was delicious. Day 3: Supper. We had a relatively short wait to be seated this time. We were seated and asked for some water. It took over 20 minutes to get the water. Finally a different waitress came out and took our order. I ordered the hungry hiker challenge. It is a cheeseburger with three 8-ounce burger patties on it. The menu says if you finish you get some free cobbler. While we were waiting for our food we noticed that a local who came in and sat down after we were seated had already been served and was done eating before our food arrived. I finished the burger, and some of the other patron's noticed and congratulated me. When the waitress arrived she asked if we needed anything else. I asked if the free cobbler came with ice cream on it. She said no, so I ordered ice cream to go with my cobbler. It was a peach that day. Again, the food was delicious. The main thing that I notice about the restaurant was that despite having great food, service was pretty slow. One of the hikers I ate with noticed that the waitresses seemed to have to seat the customers, take the orders, deliver the food, clean the tables, and handle the check-out at the end of the meals. It seems like the service would have been much quicker if they had someone handling the seating, check-out's, and possibly bussing and cleaning tables. The worst part of the experience was the long waits to be seated and for the food to come out. The food itself was great and I found the servers and other customers to be friendly. The furnishings were clean with a 1960's diner feel. Overall, I would hesitate to go back if I were in a hurry of any kind. If time is no object, the food is great.

Next time, I'm leaving room for pie. I don't believe we had just one waitress. It seems that in this quaint little Diner, everyone is looked after and checked on as a whole by staff. My Ball jar of sweet tea was never any less than half full, and that sweet tea was *chef's kiss*. We both decided on the meatloaf, and I opted for cornbread, green beans and pickled beets. I felt like I had been transported back in time and was being fed by my great great grandmother. Sounds a bit dramatic, I know. But I haven't had cornbread, meatloaf or beets like this in so many years. It did not taste like restaurant food, it tasted like home cooking. We're already planning our next little "run away from life and parenthood" to Hot Springs, and Smoky Mountain Diner is top of the "will definitely visit again" list. Thank you for treating us like family.
