These guys are what killed independent radio. Their formulaic top-40 hits programming at the national level has killed local talent, local culture, local information. The news is generally geared for someone in the second grade, and generally only presented on a national format.
There used to be laws about how many media outlets one company can own in one market. That law has been eliminated, and companies like iHeartMedia run the airwaves without oversight on how many outlets they run, or whether they're presenting a balanced view of things. These companies are able to form a sort of cartel and can dictate advertising prices on the radio without fair competition.
Tune out of the corporate mainstream radio, and listen to stations that are community orientated, usually lower frequency numbers, less than about 92.5 FM. Anything below that can't be owned by the corporations like iHeartMedia. I obviously don't heart this media. read more
