Great local radio, sometimes the music is a little out there, but I like that it has a little something for everybody. I especially like that they air Democracy Now. read more

These guys are what killed independent radio. Their formulaic top-40 hits programming at the…read morenational level has killed local talent, local culture, local information. The news is generally geared for someone in the second grade, and generally only presented on a national format. There used to be laws about how many media outlets one company can own in one market. That law has been eliminated, and companies like iHeartMedia run the airwaves without oversight on how many outlets they run, or whether they're presenting a balanced view of things. These companies are able to form a sort of cartel and can dictate advertising prices on the radio without fair competition. Tune out of the corporate mainstream radio, and listen to stations that are community orientated, usually lower frequency numbers, less than about 92.5 FM. Anything below that can't be owned by the corporations like iHeartMedia. I obviously don't heart this media.

The PEOPLE voted for who was best, not Maroon Weekly. And the writers ARE students; it's an independent publication with student writers, and they do a great job. So don't blame them for producing content on winners that were chosen by the public. Props to you, Maroon Weekly, for creating something like this, since Best of the Brazos is crap. And I agree with Levi; practically everything that's happening in BCS is in this paper. I salute them for organizing and promoting the nightlife scene in the region, something that NO ONE else is doing legitimately,.
