It honestly made the whole experience worth it. iFly staff greeted us with a warm welcome, helped us through the waivers, answered questions the boys had, and walked us upstairs to the vertical wind tunnel, along the way pointed out the gift shop so we know exactly where to redeem our video vouchers of our flights. Upstairs, the boys went through video training, suited up, and took turns in the wind tunnel with the instructor. The boys smiles were HUGE! Went to ifly for the first time today as a late birthday present. I was scared at first, but my instructor, Jacob, was wonderful! Very calm and supportive. He helped me get in the wind tunnel, and maintain altitude/correct body posture once I was in. It takes a bit of getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it's a lot of fun! I went all the way to the top of the tunnel with High Fly, and its a fantastic experience. The rest of the staff was also very professional, and very willing to help. I took my son and his family to Virginia Beach for the weekend before school started. I knew they wanted to do the "Ifly" so made advance reservations (which they were offering a really good deal for 5 persons, better than the location in Ashburn , VA) for Saturday at 5:30. My bad but I think that our instructor was "Chad", anyway, he was awesome. He explained each procedure and made the group feel comfortable. There can and probably will be more than just your party in the time you choose, but which I think is better because you can watch everyone else (unless you are first) go first (it's rotation, not a long wait). My granddaughter who just turned 4, did so good. She was so cute and so fearless. My grandson who is 11 also had a great time. I paid extra for the high fly $9.95 for 1 flight besides the cost of the initial fly, but you go really high and it's a awesome experience. The video was included in the package we bought - 2 flights for each person. If you belong to Costco, you can purchase the packages at a discount. I surprised my husband by bringing him here for his birthday. He was super excited and noticeably nervous about the whole thing. I'm happy to say the excitement won out and he enjoyed himself immensely! My husband wanted to keep his glasses on, so it was great they had the option of upgrading to the full mask helmet for a little extra. There seemed to be about 12-14 people in his group and everyone went into the flying chamber twice. There's someone in there to keep you from banging your head on the glass or flying away. The first time in was just to get a feel for being in there, but the second time is when you went up high! You have to sign a waiver b4 flying, but you can take care of that online b4 arriving. They have a short class where they kinda tell you what to expect, like the best way to position yourself and the signals they'll give when they need for you to do something. You can park in the garage on the right side or at the parking meters to the left (facing) side of the building. The price was the same, but it seemed like a easier walk from the ground level in the garage. I had a great time just watching everyone, especially the trainers who were doing some remarkable stunts. I think I'll have to come back to try this myself next time. read more

Holy High Fly Batman. For this first time flyer it was a New Year's Eve to remember. Ease of check in and then upstairs to a large room with bleachers centered around the central wind tunnel. Waiting for your intro class to begin you can watch other groups readying to go and taking their own high flights or more seasoned students trying the fancy flips and twirls and tricks. Then off to the classroom to meet your instructor and watch a movie on safety (I'm sure it's a lawyer thing). Then it is out to get dressed into your flight suit and helmet. I must say getting the full biker looking helmet was worth the upgrade. I don't know about you but the sensation of sticking my head out of a car window flying down the interstate is not fun when you are trying to breathe. I mean it is a wind tunnel so yah trying to learn to fly while struggling to gulp down air No Thanks. So face shield it is. I bought the 2 flight package and upgraded to the high flight. It was so worth it and so much fun. The whole process was a well oiled machine from check in to picking out my picture at the end. It was definitely a great way to start 2019. read more

WOW. This was so much fun!!! I'll admit, I was a bit nervous at first to do something like this. Not sure why... They say the free fall is like actual skydiving but we all know I would black out jumping out of a plane. Then you go through all the steps to get ready to do this experience and all of a sudden you get excited. Let me make this easy: - Walk inside. Payments, waiver, and signing in take place in the front lobby. - You can buy iFly stuff on the first floor --- shirts, hoodies, and other random goodies. This is where you also go to see your video. They record your experience. - Second floor. This is where all the fun part happens. First, you sit through a five minute video explaining what's about to take place. An instructor comes in and then demonstrates the proper technique for when you're in the chamber. - Everyone gets a body suit, goggles, ear plugs, and a helmet. - Your group enters the chamber and everyone gets two minutes to fly, one at a time, with the instructor. This is the fun part, especially if you're with a group, because you get to watch each other. - Spend the extra money so your instructor will take you to the very top. It's thrilling and exciting. - When everyone has completed their indoor flying experience, your instructor will perform a special show for you and do all these special tricks inside the chamber. You have to see this to really feel how awesome it is. I was like an old person getting excited watching a chef at a hibachi grill. - Instructors work for tips. I would think $5/person would be appropriate. - Everyone gets a completion certificate. First timers get three of six boxes checked off. If you enjoyed your experience, you'll want to get better at this and perform different tricks inside the chamber. Repeat. The more you do this, the more things you will be taught. read more

Reluctantly went here with my cousin Mort who always fancied himself a superhero. On our way in, there was a staff member smoking a cigar out front. Weird. I repeatedly asked the staff if I was too obese to enjoy my flight and they reassured me I wasn't - that I would have the time of my life and I'd be light as a feather. I'm 241 pounds as of 1:00 this afternoon. Mort's fine because he's a midget and weighs about 80 pounds even with all of his heavy jewelry on. Sitting through the training class and strapping into our suits, I knew I was NOT going to enjoy this. I asked one more time to be sure - "Am I too obese to do this?". Everyone laughed and said no. Okay. Here we go. I slowly got closer to the wind gust and readied my self to take flight. I gently extended my body as flat as I could, yelled "Geronimo!", took a small leap, and BOOM! I fell flat on my belly. There was a loud metal grinding sound and I heard a buzzer go off. Everyone watching laughed and took pictures with their cellphones. The staff seemed clueless and unconcerned. Maybe they were untrained for such an experience. I stormed out and went across the street to some restaurant and ate as much as I could. read more

My husband and I tried this out when we were on vacation in Virginia Beach. It was close enough to the boardwalk to walk to. There was also a parking garage directly next to the iFLY with really reasonable rates for parking as well. The whole experience was really well organized and very unique! If you get there early enough you can see the group before you (the group before us was an advanced group doing a lot of tricks) and it's really fun to watch! All of the staff are helpful, friendly, and clearly love their job. It makes the whole experience that much better! The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 was because our package came with vouchers to download the videos of our flight and the media was down during our time slot. We didn't find out until afterwards. They did send us pictures of our flight for free but we were still a little bummed that we were unable to get videos of our flights. I also would highly recommend paying the $5 for the upgraded helmet when they offer it! The regular helmet just comes with the helmet and goggles to protect your eyes. But the force of the air going up my nose made me feel like I couldn't breathe and caught me off guard. I would have enjoyed it more if I paid for the upgraded helmet since it covers your entire face. But my husband had the regular helmet and didn't seem to mind it all. read more

It was my first time doing this and was not disappointed. Initially there was a little bit confusion between booking the Earn Your Wings package through yelp and then finding our reservation when I called to confirm but it was sorted out. Apparently we did not need a confirmation number to finish the reservation on the iFly website even though yelp said we will receive a following email containing so, we never did so we got a little worried being that the time we booked for was coming up. You also do not need to be there an hour early that they recommended, the lady in the front said that the manager changed this rule because people were getting confused about something but it is recommended to show at least 15mins prior, to check in and sign a waiver. We paid a few dollars extra to get the helmet that covers your whole face and to do Fly High. The lady was able to move us up a half hour since there was an open reservation and we go there early. We went upstairs into the short classroom lesson and Julia was telling us everything we needed to know. The only thing is she needs to be able to speak of a little more because we were straining to hear a little bit but she was nice. Ray was our Fly High expert and he was awesome. I love his energy and sense of humor. I hope he never loses it. The place is clean and the staff was friendly and informative. Overall I enjoyed myself and I am definitely going to do it again soon. You get two times to do it with the package we had and 1 minute each time but 1 minute is soo not enough time. You also get discounts on future "flying" while you're there. read more
