Panorama of mural on back of library 6/13/19

Whilst I didn't actually peruse any of the Idyllwild Branch Library services, I was quite amazed by a certain mural painted on its outer back wall. The mural depicts the firefighters from the area - a tribute to their service! A fine one at that. Keith Blum was the artist. It's dated November 18, 2018. The same year a f***ing arsonist set blazes to tens of thousands of acres. His name is not worth mentioning, however, here is a link to cite my finding: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.newsweek.com/cranston-wildfire-update-idyllwild-california-fire-spreading-6000-evacuated-1045109%3famp=1 Since then there has been the Carr Fire... Yes, Idyllwild and the surrounding communities are no strangers to the overwhelming and unpredstresses of forest fires. The worst had to have been when Engine 57 lost five men in the 2006 Esperanza fire - also the result of an arsonist (be ready to weep): https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sbsun.com/2016/10/23/10-years-later-how-the-esperanza-fire-became-a-raging-inferno-that-killed-5-firefighters/amp/ Thank you, IBL, for supporting these service people in such a beautiful way. We owe them much more recognition and remembrance.

This is a really cute and new library with places to work and read. I did some remote work here while visiting.

We got lucky and came on a Thursday night when the street market was happening and admission was free. It was packed in the best way -- it felt like a community event inside the museum. The space has three floors to explore plus a gift shop with actually cool items (not the usual logo magnets your grandma collects). We ended up buying a beautiful ceramic vase for a surprisingly reasonable price, especially for a museum shop. The art itself was beautiful, with a mix of everything -- photography (my favorite medium), sculptures, ceramics, paintings, and more. I loved how many pieces represented the LGBTQ community and people of color. The stories behind the work were inspiring, and it felt good supporting a museum that prioritizes diversity. And as always, one of my favorite parts of visiting any museum is the building itself. This one is stunning -- natural, open, and thoughtfully designed. Definitely on my list of must‑do activities in Palm Springs.

Our friend was lucky enough to be able to take advantage of that. Love going to the art museums! This is a small museum but enough to see to spend a couple of hours here out of the heat. Wish we had the foresight to come at the right time to join their docent led tours. The museum was not crowded or busy when we were there on a Saturday. There were many cool contemporary art pieces. We forgot about the sculpture garden until after we had left and we were walking to our car. It can be seen from outside looking down into the garden. We'll have to remember to do that next time we're there again. Lots of free parking spaces in the lot next to and across from the museum.

But due to work, I have only been able to take a few classes throughout the years. But I do love the variety of classes that they offer and how constant their schedule is. If you are looking for a Japanese school for your child to attend, they offer that. If you would like to just learn more about the community through the different cultural classes, just sign up for the emails and you can be alerted for upcoming classes that they offer. I've taken amigurumi (crochet), ikebana (Japanese flower arrangement), and a cooking class. All of the instructors are great and mostly volunteers. So it just shows you what a great community there is. They have festivals through the year and also help put on the West Covina Cherry Blossom Festival. They also host the West Covina obon at the center but it is organized by the Buddhist church which is based out of the community center. So there is just a lot of activities that you can get involved with.

As a 67-year-old disabled self-represented litigant, my experience has been extremely difficult. I repeatedly experienced unfriendly and dismissive treatment from courthouse security and filing staff. Simple questions were met with impatience, rude remarks, and pressure to leave the window quickly, even when I was not in anyone's way. Most concerning was my experience filing a civil harassment restraining order after a violent incident where the new owner cut my locked gate with a sharp tool. Despite explaining that I feared imminent physical harm, my restraining order hearing was set weeks away, and I was sent back and forth between offices at significant personal cost. I also felt uncomfortable in court hearings where my self-representation and English were questioned rather than my legal arguments addressed. By contrast, my experiences at Riverside Superior Court have been professional, respectful, and supportive. I hope Palm Springs Superior Court improves its treatment of self-represented, elderly, and disabled litigants so that everyone feels safe and heard when seeking protection.

*BEWARE OF BRYCE, THE ABUSIVE CLERK*…read more I filed my small claims case yesterday in PS and today I went over to Larson Justice Center in Indio to have the sheriff preform the service. When I got up to the window, I noticed that the Palm Springs court clerk (Ortiz) spelled the Defendant's last name wrong. Sheriffs said that I need to go back to the PS court clerk to have them fix it. So back to Palm Springs court I went -with traffic almost 50 minutes. I live in La Quinta - a lot of driving back and forth - brutal When I got up to the window, I explained to the clerk (a lovely lady) what had happened. My attitude was very pleasant and understanding (even though my head was pounding and was beyond annoyed that I had to drive all the way back to Indio) because I'm a polite civilized person. A moment later, a tall, white middle aged mustached man came up. His name is Bryce He was abruptly RUDE and loud as he looked at me and said in slightly unhinged way: "ugh! If you want us to fix this, you're gonna have to come back another time"! Like it was my fault I said that I need to take it back to the Sheriffs Dept today. That's when he flipped his lid! The amount of anger and rage that came out of this clearly unstable person shocked & stunned me. It was so toxic, it was palpable. His face all red, veins in neck protruding. He pointed to the door and barked: "sit outside, it's gonna be an hour" Just to lighten the tension, I winked and jokingly said: "Ok but you're gonna owe me one" That's when his head spun off his body - He literally yelled :" I DON'T OWE YOU A DAMN THING!!!" As he wandered back to his office, he muttered the same multiple Xs. I stated immediately that I was just kidding (I needed to lighten the mood for my own peace of mind) - trauma response The Audacity of a city court clerk to speak to me that way was appalling. He was contemptuous from the gate - never said that he was sorry to inconvenience me. All he gave me was the rage of an unhinged monster.
