We love the i.d.e.a. Museum and have been going for years. It's been really fun watching how the experience changes as my kids get older. They've aged out of the soft play areas, but now they can spend hours at the stop motion video station and exploring the newer exhibits. The recycling area is also one of their favorites. It's such a quaint little space and incredibly affordable for what you get. I also love seeing downtown Mesa continue to grow, and the museum feels like a big part of that energy. From a parent perspective, it's really easy to visit. There's ample parking, it's very stroller and diaper bag friendly, and it's a perfect place for a playdate. You can actually have conversations while the kids explore and move between activities. The mural in the courtyard is gorgeous and the puppets are always a hit with my kids. It's one of those places we keep coming back to.

Amazing place for toddlers and school aged children to learn about science in a fun way, explore their imagination and interact with others. There are soft blocks for building or balancing on, a play kitchen, play vet, barn, magnet wall, Lego station, gear powered musical windmill, lots of art stations to create, a backlight wall, even and outdoor area.

Great fun for the kids, inside so it's nice and cool for these summer months when your looking for something fun that's not over priced, they do offer membership and work with DES so it's even more affordable for every kid, which I love. My kids have so much fun here to stay entertained for hours, ages 6 going on 7 and 3 going on 4, as well my 1 year old had fun just walking around but he's still young to really understand what is what he was still entertained in his own way haha , I'd say more for 2-10 maybe but more younger age average .

I came here with a friend and her toddler and would low-key come back just by myself as an adult. This museum was awesome! For just $12, you can explore all the exhibits which include a variety of sensory activities. Some of my favorites were the wall of tubes that pumped scarves through the tubes with air and the area where you can build your own contraption that enables a ball to roll through a maze of gadgets. We stayed for three hours and got to slowly enjoy each exhibit. They offer noise canceling headphones to minimize overstimulation, and they have a quiet art room where kids can paint away from all the noise. An annual membership costs $100 for two people, and you can put three additional people on the membership for free so others can accompany your child in future visits. No food or drinks are allowed in the exhibits, but there is a snack room for enjoying them and taking a break. For those with limited mobility who accompany children, there are plenty of seating areas in each exhibit.

I went to this museum last week with my kids, and they absolutely have a great time. The museum has been renovated and reopened a few months ago. They have everything that my kids love to play and they enjoyed it a lot. The museum is not that big like others, but they do have a lot to offer for you to check it out. It's well organized, clean and fun. The staffs are very helpful and very friendly. The members for 4 people only $105 per year and kid under 11 mo this is free. I personally think this museum has a great indoor activity offering with a great price. If you are looking for something different, Come and check it out this fun spot for your kids. You will like it like I do!

An environment of joy for ALL AGES!!! An important aside: Mesa is known for disability inclusivity: the bathroom had plenty of stalls and is accessible, including a full size changing table. There are also headphones throughout the museum for those with sensory sensitivity. IDEA museum is doing an excellent job of fostering an environment of accessibility, celebrating the gifts, talents, and unique attributes of all. The museum did have people in it but it felt like there was plenty of space and plenty to play with. There are many installations celebrating different types of art, and lots of hands on opportunities. Everyone is able to explore their talents and create special pieces which they can take home. And there is lots of opportunity for photos. I highly recommend.

This is a great place for kids. They can build things, they can draw, and just have fun with their creativity. There is I think something for every kid of any age. It is 10.00 per person and you can spend an hour to probably 3 hours.

Idk how this has a 3.8 rating. This place should get a 5 star just for the fact that all the messes are not happening in my house. Jokes aside- this is a great place for kids to be kids - explore and be creative. I highly recommend checking it out and getting a membership and then you won't feel guilty about going for just a few hours to get the kids out of the house. We love the idea museum.

If I visit and we enjoy our time can we put our first visit admission price into the cost of the membership like the Phoenix zoo does?

Is this a fun place for an 8 1/2 year old?

Probably not. It is more for kids around 6 and under.

The sheer variety of things for kids to explore is incredible. Between the enormous climbing structure, Noodle Forest, building activities, and imaginative play spaces, every turn brings something else to discover. There's so much for different ages and interests, which makes a huge difference when visiting with kids who are at different stages. We took my 16 year old niece and 11 year old nephew and they enjoyed it just as much as my almost 2 and 6 year old. What impressed me most was how much freedom kids have to explore and make their own fun. They can climb, build, pretend, experiment, and follow whatever catches their attention. So much thought clearly went into making this a place for kids to actually play. Give yourselves plenty of time. This is the kind of place where "just one more thing" happens repeatedly. Phoenix families are lucky to have this nearby!

I've been here a few times and this last time it seemed slightly less fun than the first time. Example, they loved the noodle forest the first time but barely wanted to do it this time. But then the big looping tube track was a big hit this time. Didn't really like the big tree this time while last time they loved it. I would say that I went more on a what you want to do. I didn't force them to participate in any crafts or anything. In doing that, I might have felt that they got a little more for the money. Do beware that room can get a bit messy with the paint. We had lunch there as well and kids enjoyed it.

It's still really great, I thought it might feel like a children's museum but not at all. Chock full of artifacts and tons to read and take in. I liked its three winding levels with stairs in the center and the ceiling height display throughout, so charming with its big waterfall and recurring thunderstorms. Parking was super easy in the free garage right next door. The museum was wide open on a Sunday, all families with kids. Dinosaur Mountain felt like a bit too much for a three-year-old. The dark rooms, loud roaring noises, and unexpected thunder was overwhelming and scary for him. The museum is three stories with a lot of interactive exhibits. There is an outdoor courtyard where kids can try gold panning. All of the exhibits are engaging - a living, educational experience that helps people understand the past and think about the world today. Staff were great, and readily available for questions. Parking is free and in adjacent covered structure. Annual memberships are very reasonably priced ($100 for four people). Adults or school age children could easily spend 3 hours. We stayed 1.5 hours with our grandson.

The music was performed by an orchestra, I believe it was the Hungary Philharmonic in the credits, and the narration was about how we are all part of the Universe, stardust over millennia becoming bodies. This is a visual performance without astronomy as a lesson; the graphics are fantastic and all around you as you lie back - just like gazing at the sky at night. I couldn't help smiling during the entire hour! The seats were great, I'm so glad we sat in the recliners and not upright for the display. Parking - we found out later - is at the Heritage building and they will validate your ticket; we parked in the other garage and it wasn't cheap due to the game nearby. It is wheelchair accessible, but in the Ladies restroom there was only one stall for disabled. In the atrium there's a gift shop as in all museums, and a cafeteria still open when we left the Dome. The ongoing Julia Child exhibit was right near the Astronomica show, so I went and took a walk around the exhibit: big fan of Julia so it was an extra bonus :) I enjoyed the experience very much, I hope you will too!

The animatronic dinosaurs were a hit, and after walking through the dinosaur gauntlet there are three different activity stations in the back that were just as much fun. Her favorite was the fossil dig area where kids can dig through rocks to find tiny plastic dinosaurs that they get to keep. She also loved chipping away at a clay block with a little hammer to uncover a triceratops skeleton before covering it with play-dough to give it "skin." Those hands-on activities ended up being the highlight of the visit. My only complaint is the price. We paid around $70 for two adults and a toddler, and we were finished in about an hour. For that amount of entertainment, it's difficult to justify the admission cost. If they offered something like a $100 annual family membership, I'd probably buy it and come back several times throughout the year, but $70 for a one time visit is too much. Overall, it's a fun experience for kids, especially if they're into dinosaurs, but I think the pricing is out of line for what you get. We're glad we visited once, but at the current admission prices, it's probably not somewhere we'll be returning anytime soon.
