I had this shop install gears and lockers and seals and bearings in my 04 Grand Cherokee front and rear axle. The rear gears whined loudly upon deceleration when I picked it up, and they refused to go back in and adjust them properly. The front axle's pinion seal only lasted a couple of months before it started leaking. I took the rig to another mechanic to troubleshoot the rear end, and they were shocked at how poorly the new gears were installed. I also had this shop rebuild an extra driveline for future use. Just installed it, and it appears they didn't even touch it (vibrates).
While everyone I talked to there was nice enough, the owner kept trying to tell me what I wanted for my vehicle. He kept saying that rear end noise was normal after changing gearing (although the front was as quiet as OEM), and that I don't want to use a double double cardan driveshaft on my application. The also explained that the manufacturer of my new gears provided incorrect shimming numbers, and that he made a decision to ignore those numbers (which is way my rear end whines so bad, a $900 fix - grrrrrr).
This shop MIGHT be okay for typical driveline repairs on stock vehicles, but they obviously know nothing about rear ends, lifted vehicles and pinion angles, backlash and shimming, or helping a customer accomplish their goals for a project vehicle. The only thing they did right on my scope of work was rebuild the stock front driveshaft and swap out a transfer case (which were the smallest aspects of work they did for me).
I will never use this shop again, and deeply regret spending over $3,000 there. Now I get to spend another $1000+ to fix everything they screwed up. read more
