Attended a friend's birthday party on a Saturday, early evening with a group of her friends and literally had a BLAST! For 2 hours, we all got to experience Cryotherapy in the Icebox Room, a mini Cryotherapy facial and Leg Compression Therapy. All for $25!! My friend & another friend of hers at the party have a membership that greatly benefits them as a relaxing and rejuvenating treat after their busy work days.
When I entered, I was greeted by a female staff member and was given a tablet to fill out some online forms prior to the treatments. Afterwards, the staff member explained to me about the mini treatments and I took some photos with my friend at a Photobooth set up in front by my friend's company, Little Lemon Shots so we could have before and after photos. Then I was led to the next room where the Icebox Cryotherapy Room was on the left, the food and beverages my friend brought were on the right, then the next room to the left where the Cryofacials were set up and the right where the Leg Compression Therapy was going on. In the back room is where there are lockers and you are given a fluffy white robe, bulky grey slippers and thick socks. I put those on, locked up my stuff and walked around the place. It was so fun having a party there which we were able to BYOB as well and socialize. Since there were about 15 people, we staggered treatments. We paired up in twos for the Icebox except for those who wanted to go solo. There's only one Esthetician so she only took one person at a time. The Leg Compression Therapy has 4 reclining chairs.
I did the Whole Body Cryotherapy first and paired with another gal. The female staff member said for Beginners, the temp is -166ºF, I think. Regular members get -200º+F!! You're given gloves, a black face mask and the choice of a beanie or headband to wear inside. You can have headphones if you want but we were just going to talk to each other. You're supposed to disrobe inside the Icebox but leave your undergarments, socks, slippers, gloves, beanie/headband and face mask on. If it's your first time, you don't have to disrobe inside. There are hooks that you place your robes and are encouraged to make the robes ready to slip on ASAP when your time is up. We entered and it's cold as if you're entering into a freezer, but you're anticipating it EXCEPT you're nearly naked but just go with the flow! It's 3 minutes inside but you're alerted with a thumbs up during the halfway mark just to make sure you're doing fine. The door is always unlocked so you can always get out. There's a neon green light, soft purplish look inside mostly coming from the light around the door. When the frosted door looks blue is when you're supposed to go out but it looked pink to us from the inside? It looks blue from the outside? Anyway, we got a knock from the door so we grabbed our robes and put them on a little past the 3 minute mark. The whole time inside we were talking to each other while walking in place and it was funny because the gal I was with started to get white ice flakes on her false eyelashes, LOL! I guess mine were on my eyebrows too! I noticed after a minute or more that the backs of my arms and legs were starting to feel frosty and cold but not to the point where you want to rush out. I kept thinking, this is therapeutic, this is therapeutic... Afterwards, we felt rejuvenated and elated. I can tell you that my left hip ache was gone as well as shoulders which were sore before coming in.
The next treatment after was the mini Cryofacial which I think was about 4 minutes. You lay on the table and the Esthetician, Gabrielle uses super cold Nitrogen air coming from a wand and is waved around your face. I asked if they put Goggles and she said you don't have to which is the beauty of the treatment & technology. It felt cold but not painful. I noticed my cheeks were red for the whole night and pink the next day or 2. I felt my neck had a little soreness right after but not the next day. It's supposed to stimulate Collagen in a non-invasive way. A week later, the edge of my lips felt a little dry too. If I were to do this again, I would put Goggles and ask about the lips? My friend who's a member said sometimes she gets some peeling on her face but that's a part of it. During the treatment, Gabi told me they can do localized Cryotherapy for spot treatments on sore muscles. She mentioned baseball players sometimes get sore arms so they come in. I told her I was interested in that. The last treatment was the Leg Compression Therapy. You put on these black zip up pants that have booties and compressed air tightens the area in hopes to help lymphatic drainage and for a relaxing treatment. Usually you can lay there for 30 min, I think but ours was only 10 minutes. The staff was always helpful and attentive with positive and cheerful attitudes. I highly recommend trying Icebox La Cantera!! read more
