A few years ago I decided to try the #1 hair extension brand, Great Lengths due to the wonderful reputation. The stars aligned in my favor when I met Seiji. Great Lengths is truly the best hair extension I have ever had, but this doesn't matter if the stylist installing them is not skilled. Seiji is the most skilled, professional and kind human. He listens to everything you say and instantly makes you feel so comfortable. Seiji executes every detail from the colors of the hair to blending them so perfectly, the hair looks like it's growing from your scalp. Like I said, I have very fine hair and I have changed my color often. He always matches it perfectly. I have decided to stop coloring and grow out my natural grey. Of course he was able to match that color as well. I can't begin to tell you how much I love my hair. I get endless compliments and I feel incomplete without my crowning glory!! Seiji is AMAZING at installing the keratin tip bonds, and EVEN BETTER at removing them. The only reason my hair has grown, WITH extensions is because Seiji keeps the integrity of my hair in tact. He does not pull or battle with your hair. He works WITH it! I choose to go with the brand, Great Lengths, because I've gone to great lengths to find this real human hair! Seiji orders it for me ahead of time after I pay my deposit and pay for the hair to be ordered. Although, both Seiji and the hair comes out to be more expensive than other brands, stylists etc. there is no question in my mind that Seiji is THE EXPERT and THE BEST in the industry. He has decades of experience and I trust him to do the best job. On top of that Seiji has worked with top models and fashion brands globally, as I've seen on his website. He is not only a hair specialist but has become a friend and confidant over time. He takes his time and i walk out of the salon feeling like a million bucks! But really, more like a billion! I am always shocked to see the results and my confidence skyrockets. They say money can't buy happiness, but if there's one thing that makes me happy, it would be my extensions, so I'd have to argue with that statement haha. I'm not someone who buys a ton of things, but I do love my hair. After years of bleaching I noticed how short it had gotten. For the last 5 years I've used extensions to keep going blonde & they've done wonders for my self esteem. The upkeep of my hair may be costly, but it's worth it for me. My hair is thin so Keratin hair by Great Lengths is my go to. You can not see that I have extensions in my day to day life. I wash my hair regularly as I work out often. These extensions are seamless and easy for me to have, as I don't even think about their "maintenance." I simply use the extensions brush to make sure they don't matte and voila! Each time, I was asked to provide the same information, despite prior chats and confirmation that the return had already been received. I was told I would get an update within 24 hours--days went by with no communication. Only after reaching out again was I finally told the refund would be processed. While I did eventually receive confirmation, I was disappointed to see that shipping was deducted, even though I had already paid to send the item back. After all the delays and lack of follow-through, that felt like poor business practice. Customer service should not require this level of persistence just to get a resolution. The lack of communication, repeated runaround, and having to chase my own refund made this one of the worst customer service experiences I've had. I would not recommend this company based on this experience.

It had been ten years since I had them last and I was a little bit traumatized by the experience of getting them out, as it had left my hair horribly broken and damaged. That said, they were done with synthetic hair. Real hair makes all the difference with the extent of damage to your own hair. Catherine only uses high quality hair and is an expert with weft extensions (in the past, I had pinch braid style). She works out of Uliana Hair Studio these days, a lovely salon in the East Village (I reviewed it separately). You go in for a consultation and discuss options, which include tape, sew-in or halo (non permanent). I went for sew-in as I wanted something semi permanent. My wedding was several months away and I wanted to get used to this hair thing before then. If you choose this method, you need to go in and get it maintained every 4-6 weeks to keep it looking good. The hair is so seamlessly blended with your own that you will forget that you don't actually have that perfect, thick long hair! It's so natural that you'll get more of the, "wow, your hair has grown so long" types of compliments. When I'd tell people that they were extensions, they couldn't believe it. Man, I wish my hair was this thick and healthy! I've had thin, lousy hair since I was like 11. Years of dying, flat ironing and blow drying hasn't done it any favors either. Prices are extremely fair in comparison to other salons, not only in NYC but across the country. Yes, this is an investment, but you pay for quality. It was worth it. I decided after my wedding that the sew-ins and the necessary maintenance weren't for me anymore. Catherine made my 2 wefts into a halo that I wear occasionally (OK, rarely. I've been digging the easiness of my shoulder length hair, especially in winter when long hair keeps getting caught in coats and scarves). Note that my hair was not really damaged at all after having the extensions in for 7 months. Incredible. Catherine is awesome. I appreciated that she was willing to work with me and what I needed as far as the length and thickness of the extensions (initially they were a bit too "much" for me, so she shaped them up and thinned them out a bit). I enjoyed talking to her and getting to know her on each of my visits. Oh and she is also great when it comes to dying your hair!

They are constantly busy no matter what time you come. You get a number, so I recommended to get your number and come back after an hour or so, there are plenty of little shops and restaurants, nearby and come back. They don't take appointments. As there are no public bathrooms in the area, they let you use yours and I was able to charge my phone while I waited. Once you're in, you get the BEST scalp massage and shoulder massage. I think I was massaged for at least a good 30 min, then you get your blowout, so expect to be pampered on for a good 45 min. The staff is nice, service is great , the wait is just super long but worth it!
