I like to take my class C motorhome here to refill propane. Staff is always friendly and it's easy to pull up to the tank.

This is my home brewers club and it's pretty sweet…read more It's been around longer than I have and there are still a couple of current members that chartered the club back in the 70's. Everyone is welcome no matter what your skill level, whether you're thinking about brewing, an extract brewer, an all grain brewer or a professional brewer you're welcome here. People bring in their home brew or just hard to find beers and everyone shares. There's usually food of some kind. The meetings go like this. Show up and drink. Say the pledge of allegiance. Attend the meeting that lasts about 20 or so minutes and is mostly just about beer events going on around the area. Drink more and talk to people. Eventually move over to the bar and start drinking German beer. Get kicked out. The meetings are good but the real fun is at the events. We do "brew offs" which is where we make 50 or so gallons of beer and if you buy in you get to take 5 gallons home with you. The last one I attended had about 40 people and enough beer to drown a village. Dues are $30 a year and well worth it. We meet at 7 on the first Wednesday of each month at the Deutsches Haus. If you like beer you should definitely check it out.

Meetings themselves are short but informative, usually no more than 20 or so minutes. The real draw is the socializing before and after. I'll spend two to three hours talking with other homebrewers and enjoying some delicious beer. Meetings are held at Deutsches Haus where we have ample room and usually a bar to supplement our libations. I've been to a couple of different homebrew clubs but this is the nicest, most welcoming one I've ever seen. For a paltry $30 a year they've got me hooked.

Miel is one of 5 breweries along Tchoupitoulas St. Ok so they are 1/2 a block off, whatever…read more It's the smallest brewery of the bunch but probably my favorite. I have probably been a dozen or more times, and they are always changing things up. New IPA's, Pilsners, stouts, and sours about every time I go. This last time I went they had a habanero-pickle sour, but I was too big of a chicken to try it. Their Soft Focus DIPA was phenomenal, however. The inside is small, but the courtyard is a really cool place to sit even on a July afternoon as it is shaded with plants and umbrellas. They have different food vendors all the time and crawfish every spring. On our last visit, we had a really good Detroit style pizza. I will keep going because they are always trying to brew new beers and because it's my girlfriend's favorite brewery in Nola. If they still have the habanero pickle sour, I may even try it.

Bonus points for being pet friendly. They had great music playing, and the food trucks outside were a nice touch. I ordered two flights and honestly enjoyed everything I tried--lots of variety and solid flavor across the board. Overall, a really cool, off-the-beaten-path spot that's absolutely worth checking out if you're in New Orleans.
