Their hours are not very late, and I imagine there aren't a ton of passersby after dark but it's a little puzzling to me that they're not open at least until the evening in summer. The ice cream flavor selection is considerable. Given the setting, this is not a place you'd go for non-dairy frozen desserts, it is definitely ice cream. Their peanut butter cup flavor hit the spot for me. A seasonal raspberry truffle didn't quite; the raspberry flavor was strong, but there were some ice crystals and overall textural unevenness and the chocolate truffles were not present in sufficient numbers for my liking. There is also a store which houses a small amount of produce and other fresh and preserved items, as well as a deli counter with some prepared food. I didn't find a ton of interest outside of the ice cream I came for.

Nitro Cow offers a fun atmosphere and a wide variety of Mexican-inspired ice cream and desserts,…read morebut I found the prices to be much higher than other Mexican ice cream shops. While the treats are good, they didn't feel worth the cost. Compared to similar places, the portions and flavors were decent, but the overall value was disappointing. The ice cream was good and they offer a wide range of unique flavors, but expect to pay around $9 for a milkshake. Elotes were good, but a bit on the heavier side in terms of chili powder. I also tried the walking taco (with Doritos) and found this item to be the worst. I expected more protein, and instead 80% or more of it was cucumber and some sort of onion that wasn't flavorful. The staff were nice, and service was very fast. Granted, it was about half an hour prior to close that I visited.

They insisted that I wait there and they'd come meet me. Of course, I do not want anyone coming out just to serve me ice cream so I told them I will come back tomorrow but since they were on their way, I decided to wait. What an unexpected and pleasant experience! They invited me into their ice cream truck and told me the history behind some of their flavors. They then served to me each flavor of ice cream in small sample cups. And then packed away for me a massive carton with 3 of my favorite flavors. I'm in awe at the customer service, friendliness and hospitality of the owners. Like, I'm seriously touched!! Now, to the most important thing. Hands down, BEST HOMEMADE ICE CREAM!! Like super creamy and flavor filled. I literally was in ice cream heaven!! They also take flavor suggestions. If there is something you want, ask them and they will make it. Who does that. This cute little ice cream shop in the middle of nowhere is full of surprises. Located in…read moreCloverdale, Virginia, it's a family-run business well known in the area for its Hershey's ice cream and Nathan's hot dogs. But besides these two items, it's menu has expanded and now includes a delicious pork barbecue, sausage hoagies, and grilled cheese sandwiches. They offer window service and have reasantly started accepting credit cards in addition to cash. They now also have a fenced-in little patio with a picnic table and red umbrella to be able to sit down and enjoy your meal there. I arrived there on a hot summer day with temperatures in the 100 degrees. I had just eaten elsewhere, but stopped there to have some ice-cream. The building front was decorated in such a way that immediately captured the attention of anyone driving by, and so it did to me. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and its delicious offerings. After approaching the window, a friendly older lady opened it up and gave me a warm welcome. She told me they did not have a printed menu yet but all around the window there were posted menus of what they had. It was so hot that I decided to go with a Strawberry Milkshake, because with this heat any ice cream would melt quickly. While the owner prepared my milkshake a lady customer of the place arrived and we established conversation. She ended up being a relative of the owner of Brood Restaurant in Salem, Virginia. One of the last restaurants that I had written a Yelp review and was being featured in the app together with one of my photographs. She was delighted with by review just by reading the first few sentences and took a picture of it on my phone with her phone. What a small world I thought to myself. She suggested that next time I should try their pork barbecue. Another customer was also having the pork barbecue and also recommended it. When my milkshake was ready, I started drinking it with a thin straw the lady gave me, but it was so thick that I recommended she get thicker straws next time, but it was so good that I took the lid off and ended up drinking the cold and delicious milkshake. I highly recommend this ice cream shop and am looking forward to returning to try their now famous pork barbecue and maybe one of their Special Sundaes.

Coconut Cake is like Heaven!…read more Wow, first time getting anything from this shop and very impressed. Ordered a 9" round 3 layer coconut cake for my wife's birthday, her favorite! I am not a food critic, so I will describe it as best I can. Beautiful appearance - fluffy white cake. Icing is just the right amount of sweet without being heavy like some icing. Feels almost light but has substance. Texture is smooth and pleasant. The cake itself is a off-white cake that has a combination of lightness with some density to it, but again not heavy. I'm and older guy and this is the best cocunut cake I have ever eaten. Just the right balance of flavor, texture and deliciousness, but not the overpowering sweet like many children's desserts and candies have. Thank you for a great product and timely, pleasant service! Love the appearance of your shop, and I do plan to return and try other products.

Arriving several hours before closing, I found only a couple of loaves on sale, and a long line to get with them. I managed to snag the last one that wasn't plain white bread, and thought I'd add a slice of pizza as it looked appealing. While the ingredients were there, the little toaster oven they used barely warmed it up at all. I ate it there, but I'd suspect it would have been much better if I'd gotten it to go and cooked it properly myself. They don't open all that early on weekdays and I've struggled to make it in, and on the weekend, they struggled to meet expectations. Perhaps on a different day, they could do a better job of getting the right baked goods into my hands.
