I would give this business a negative number if I could. The person that runs the business Stuart is unprofessional and only cares about your $$$ instead of helping your child. There is a one way thinking with shsat if don't make a certain number the first time taking the test than you won't get in that is false as well. So what I mean is that the student has no room for improvement. I find that close minded teacher who has more ego than heart. There is plenty of tutoring programs and I would not recommend this at all. read more

I share the negative sentiments about Ibid and Stuart, the owner, as referenced in the 5/26/23 review. My child used Ibid for SHSAT tutoring and found the tutors inexperienced and unable to effectively teach. Stuart was rude, unprofessional and dismissive. Any NYC parent would be better served buying a Kaplan or Tutorverse book online (or live as tutors) than using Ibid. I would not recommend Ibid for SHSAT or any test. read more

I got in touch with Stuart for my daughter's SHSAT prep. I sent him 2 other students who took his classes. To pick the best tutoring program was not easy , I was researching a few different companies to find the best fit for my daughter. Therefore, I asked him questions in the emails back and forth for about 4-5 times. In one of his last emails, he was so mean and told me that he is not going to give me any information unless I sign my daughter up for the class. I signed my daughter up with a different tutoring program-obviously- and she ACED the test and got into her 1st choice SHSAT school. All Stuart seems to care if how much money he would make with as little information as possible . Would not recommend him AT ALL. read more

Unfortunately, educated consumers of educational content are not welcome at IBIDPrep. I'm a former test prep tutor myself with a specialty in tutoring kids with LD's, also a Subsitute teacher @NYCDOE, as well as an interpreter for the NYS Unified Court System. I am also an adult with lifelong LD's. I signed my son up for test prep with IBID because I knew he would not fare well under 'institutional', prep-mill conditions' and so was thrilled to know there was a 'boutique model' that professed to meet kids 'where they are'. Sadly, this turned out to be a misnomer. My educated questions were evaded and defended as not within my purview to ask; ultimately my Son was rejected to enroll for the SHSAT program for which I had planned AND PAID IBID for a prior prep program- upon IBID's recommendation - in order to be best ready for the then upcoming SHSAT season. We were welcomed as clients to an allegedly 'not your run of the mill' program' at which 'all questions were valid and had merit with respect to the child's learning process'. However when it came down to brass tacks and actually HOW IBID was effectuating that which they claimed they were doing, rather than answer, or deal with my son's at the time undiagnosed but completely on their radar LD's, they dropped him like he had the measles. Now, whether that's because I am persistent parent & educated user of educational content and know of what I speak from experience or because they only wish to keep students who reflect well on them I cannot say, nor do I care, for this represents the most egregious sort of educational discrimination as it disadvantages children who do not fit the Gen Ed mold, and such boutique programs claim to want to cater to families who seek a higher level of personalized service than companies such as Kaplan or Tutroverse. However, this is not the case! The difference is merely that the company is smaller and their reputation relies more heavily on the results of a smaller cadre of student results. In other words, Kaplan can afford to not answer and not care with impunity. IBIDPREP just needs to APPEAR to care, not actually answer or care abut anything but the outward facing results it produces, and it seems they are winning at getting away with it, too! And, that is something it seems to control by way of which students it cares to keep and nurture, and which it does not. Having swallowed my pride, I am literally asking these folks to accept money I don't have as a single mom of 2 LD kids to let him sit for a test because I know of no other facilities to which he can go to sit for an extended time mock SHSAT and they are saying simply, "NO". Aren't tutoring companies supposed to be about helping kids excel? If such is true then IBIDPREP definitely falls into the '1984 school of tutoring services' in which the kids' successes are not (really) the point, currency has only ephemeral value & playing to owner egocentrism appears to be at the heart of a game for which I didn't intend to sign up. If you are looking to have your child meaningfully prepped for subject tests or academically tutored, don't be fooled by the rhetoric and gamesmanship. read more

IBID PREP helped my daughter prepare for Middle School 5th grade test and then for the SHSATs. They were great, friendly and patient. I will probably be using them again when she takes the SAT. read more

My son has used ibidPREP for two different major tests and they were incredible. First of all, their tutors and test-givers are fantastic. They really get to know the children as individuals and work on helping them in a way that takes into account each child's strengths and weaknesses. Plus they very kindly accommodated certain scheduling restrictions we had (religious holidays) which was so generous. Everyone at ibid seems to enjoy their work, respecting the children, and helping the children reach their potential in terms of whatever test for which they're prepping. Plus our son never complained about going -- he enjoyed the lessons and practice tests. Last but least, Stuart Servetar (Manager) and Rachel Snow (Operations Manager) responded to every phone call, every question, every scheduling issue and any concern with such kindness and generosity. I felt how much they wanted our child to succeed. And he got into the school of his choice both times! But even if he hadn't, we knew he was getting the best possible help. When my son sat down to do math homework, he was hesitant, impatient, and had no confidence. He was convinced that he was "too stupid" for math. After a few weeks with Stuart, he not only turned around completely, but now math is his best subject -- he's pulling a 96 average at a very competitive middle school. Stuart helped him bring up his grades, but more importantly, Stuart taught him a whole new attitude toward the subject and toward his own abilities. I highly recommend IBID PREP. My daughter was dreading test prep for the 4th grade state test. I high score is required for public middle schools. The first day I picked her up and she was grinning...she said "I actually had a good time...we learned a lot, but the teacher was super funny and that made it fun". She was having such a good time that I wondered if she was focusing. But she did great on the test. She also took a class to prepare for the test given by the middle school and left the test feeling like it was easy. That made me nervous, but she scored well and was accepted in the the school. Beside her doing well, the personal service at ibid is excellent. All the instructors seem well trained, but the owner Stuart is especially knowledgeable. Him or his wife Beth are alwasy available for support. Great experience, I will go back with my 15 year old and my 7 year old. read more

This is probably the best class I have ever been to. I don't know what the other bad review is talking about. This place is amazing. My teacher (Paul) is amazing. You have to have a sense of humor to enjoy this place, but it is a great place to be. Everyone here is nice and patient, but fun. I learn so much, but there is still time for fun talks. Also, the nearby chipotle is a plus. Overall, BEST PLACE EVER. read more

I am a very active mom of a 4th and 7th grader at a New York City Public School in Manhattan. Both my children always performed well in school, so with the new Common Core tests in New York City implemented this year, I decided to provide both of them with the support and guidance needed to take the new ELA and Math State tests in their respective grades. Other parents at our school were also interested, so we formed small test prep groups and we are very happy with the results. The students enjoyed learning together and always came out of their test prep classes saying they learned so much and were very happy. Finally, during the NYS State test period, my children felt very confident and that they had the necessary tools to take the tests. It was a wonderfully, positive learning experience! We are an UWS public school family and we've done 4th grade test prep, 7th grade test prep, middle school entry test prep, and now SHSAT prep all with ibidPREP. My kids feel comfortable here. The materials are great, the practice tests are incredibly helpful, and the feedback along the way is very comprehensive. They teach substantive material as well as test taking strategies and skills. We are very happy with the tutoring that our 8th grader received at ibidPREP in preparation for the SHSAT. The team was helpful and supportive through all the months of prep and our daughter remained positive and calm throughout. And the results speak for themselves: she scored very well and got into her first choice. The whole high school process is a bit ridiculous, but ibidPREP helped us get the best outcome with the least anxiety. We will definitely be using ibidPREP for college prep. read more

I just registered my younger child for the SHSAT intensive prep in August. My older son took an intensive summer SHSAT class here last year and got into Stuyvesant. As a parent, I have to say that this place is where you want your kids to be. Stuart is very welcoming and the tutor my son had took the time to listen to him. I really think that my son's boost in confidence with test taking and reading under pressure has helped him overall. read more
