I booked this as a special birthday treat for Herself. We're always on the lookout for good seafood restaurants to try, and the menu here looked like it would fit the bill.
The restaurant is part of the Blythswood Hotel, and is situated at the back of the bar in a very grandiose room. Classy indeed.
We were guided to our table, and presented with a handwritten 'happy birthday' note and a free glass of fizz - bonus!
The meal was excellent, aided in main by a rather splendid bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon - actually, it wasn't that splendid for the price they were charging, and it wasn't even the wine that was listed on the wine list, but it still went down a treat.
The service, if anything, was a little over-attentive with the server asking us if everything was all right every few minutes it seemed; but at least they were anxious to please, and who can blame them after covid lockdowns?
My only complaint is that it was a Friday night, and the music playing from the bar was a little bit too loud and definitely not appropriate for the classy atmosphere they were trying to project. It was some 120bpm club remixes of 70s classics, which felt completely out of place. Or maybe I'm just too much of a curmudgeonly old fart these days. The hipsters at the bar seemed happy with it. But for the price we were paying for the meal, I think it's worth taking a star off the otherwise 5-star review.
So my advice, if you want a peaceful romantic dinner for two here, is don't go on a Friday or Saturday night as that's apparently when they have the bar disco happening. Other than that, a thumbs up from us. read more
