If you're searching for a causal gym in the city, Ian Thorpe Aquatic Center is a good place to look. Let's face it; signing your life away on a gym membership is never financially responsible. The majority of people who actually get their money's worth are probably the equivalent of the amount of people who emerge from the womb with a perfect 6-pack. $6.40 will get you a daily pass into the enormous pools. If lap swimming isn't your thing, $17.50 will grant you daily access to everything else inclusive of cardio equipment, weights and a full schedule of classes. I go on Mondays to take Body Combat at 5:45. It's amazing what beating the shit out of an imaginary someone will do for your figure! I highly recommend this class as well as the Body Pump afterwards. And if you haven't turned into a quivering pile of muscle by then, you can finish your workout with Body Balance at 7:30. Just make sure you hire someone to carry you home after all that.

Who wouldn't be enticed to go for a swim here after seeing how beautiful the swimming area is? Stepping into the YMCA Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre, I was blinded more by the stunning design rather than the bright-white interior. I was fascinated by the ceiling, which looks as if it undulates like a wave. You can gain entrance into the pool on either a single or multiple visit pass. I believe it's around $6 for an individual visit and $100 for 20 visits exclusively for use of the pool. Before you go, make sure to check the timetable for the lap lanes, as sometimes less or no lanes are available. In addition to housing an Olympic-sized swimming pool and sauna that are both open year-round, this complex has a fully equipped fitness centre. The fitness centre and weight room is located a couple of flights down from the aquatic area, and has every type of equipment available. The space is well organized with cardio machines in one area, weights on the far end of the room, and a stretching area right by the entrance. The room is clean and bright from natural light during the day, as there are many windows. A membership doesn't require a contract and is around $100 a month (plus a $100 joining fee).

Opened recently, 3 weeks ago, still not so many active member for this place. Off course with this advantage of decent size member using thy facility, you can use equipment without rushing. Modern equipments are good enough to be used, more than decent to build your muscle definition into a specific area your working on. Changing room is clean and also the shower. I notice the rushed hours between 4.30 pm to 7pm any working days. Even though this place is not super big, It's is a nice place to do your routine exercise.

Meh! It's basically a glorified hotel fitness center…read more.. It's the cheapest membership of all the gyms around CBD, but you definitely get what you pay for -- limited equipment, ill-maintained equipment (it took 4 weeks to replace ropes on the cable machine), sanitary wipes constantly running out and not being refilled til weeks later.. But my biggest gripe is when members sneak in non-members since the gym is only staffed/monitored a few hours a day. Why do I even pay for a membership when I can just wait to walk in with someone else??? Supposedly the gym is being monitored 24/7 by "cameras".. there are no such thing. Why do I keep coming back?? Well it's cheap and it's close to my apartment.. that's why it deserves 2-stars OH! and if you're lucky... you might bump into the Duke himself.. Ferdinand W. No one works out harder than that guy does...

The girl at the front was really nice and asked if I was just visiting (which would be a $20 standard day pass) or if I was looking. I said looking and she said that I could try the gym for free, but a towel was required. I didn't have one but they sold them for $7. But horrible but not the cheapest. The facilities are really nice - there are "quickie" stations where you can do a 30 minute workout that included 8 minutes of cardio and then about 10 weight stations with a minute timer. There were also virtual spin classes where you just plug your headphones into the speaker and then ride along. All equipment is pretty nice and new. Overall a good gym with more reasonably priced memberships.

Everything else about this gym is great the reception staff are friendly and very helpful and always serves you with a smile. The equipment are modern and well kept and they are easy to use. The gym is very quiet after 9am and before 6pm and as well as on the weekends these are the best times to use this is you don't want to see the big crowds and the show offs. I pay $29.90 a fortnight which gives me access to any club across Australia. It's conveniently located inside Westfielf Sydney where you can grab a quick healthy meal after your workout as we need food before and after a workout.

Previously this place had Limited equipment that was either outdated or just plain useless. The gym is in the heart of Town Hall so had massive crowds. Often had 3 people hovering over you waiting to pounce when you finished. The gym has now become a platinum Fitness First which is a good thing considering its smaller then most and can't handle too many people. With that said they have expanded it in size a small bit thanks to the Monorail station being taken down. In its place they have created a small room with gymnastic equipment that looks really cool. They have an awesome looking climbing frame that looks straight out of Gladiators or a tough mudder course. This gym has definitely improved now and would use it when I'm in Town Hall and in need of a bit of pumping.
