Seems like a nice place to buy a photo. And I mean a BIGGGGG photo. None of the photos appeared to be labeled as to where they were taken or I just missed it. So it was kind of a guessing game. But the space was nice and prominently located off of the main drag.

    Atlas Aisle

We are locals who happen to wonder into the Ian Ely gallery one evening before dinner. We were extremely lucky to meet Ian Ely and talk about his inspiration behind all his beautiful prints. Needless to say, we returned after dinner and walked away with a print called the Atlas Aisle. Just incredible workmanship and super nice guy. We were also helped by Shah who was terrific through the whole process from discussion to purchase to delivery. It is now hanging in our home in the perfect spot for us to enjoy daily. A BIG thank you! We will cherish this forever.

    Pensivity

My wife and I spent part of our 14th anniversary in La Jolla. We walked into the Ian Ely Gallery and the art was memorizing. His photographs just took control of our senses and we became immediate fans of his work. As we explored the gallery, Niky was so very friendly and patient describing every piece we looked at. She is such a wonderful person and her love for and knowledge of Ian's work captivated us. We purchased Pensivity (fortunately we could fit one of the smaller sizes in our sitting room). When we went back to pick up our artwork, Ian happened to be at the gallery and he spent an hour and a half with us. He has an eye for capturing natural beauty in his photography. His story, shared in detail, of what he would do to photograph exactly what he envisioned for a particular shot was intriguing. He and his team are such humble and truly wonderful human beings. Our first fine art photograph has opened our minds and senses to a new media in appreciating art. Thank you, Ian and Niky (and the entire team for making this possible).

As a result with our time we left the gallery not only with a new found appreciation for photography but also with the anticipation of owning one of Peter's images in the future. We look forward to returning soon and adding one of Peter Lik's pieces to our art collection.

So while vacationing in LaJolla and visiting the numerous art galleries we made a promise to each other that we were not buying anymore art. Simply because we have no more wall space. Then we came across LIK gallery. Before we entered we repeated our promise. Each photograph was breathtaking. We circled a few times and admitted we were in trouble. We stood several minutes looking at a photograph entitled Night Shadow. Brian and Katy, two art consultants, asked if we would like to view the photograph in a private room. No pressure at all from either one. They were both delightful. We looked at several frames and mattes. By then we were hooked. So, we are happily awaiting our new photograph. Many thanks to Brian and Katy and, of course, Peter Lik.

Truly, this was a pleasant surprise as we were able to browse the gallery and learn more of its mission. There were many others walking in and browsing the artwork. All of the pieces here are photographs taken for National Geographic, so you may see some that you're familiar with. What I loved most while visiting was the appreciation for all of the pieces, making you learn and understand your place in the world while observing a variety of portraits, from endangered species to landscapes of developing countries. Every picture is beautiful and tells such a compelling story. Although they are very expensive, you can buy any of the pictures and have it custom framed. There were plenty of options for this, and the pictures range in different sizes for purchase. Gallery staff walk around the floor, making sure to answer any questions you may have, including the background of the photos. They were very knowledgeable. But I think the best part of this gallery is that 27% of the sales goes back to National Geographic Society. What a wonderful way to give back while also taking home a prized possession.

Five minutes later, another couple walked in (older, dressed for an occasion), and she was at their throats for their wallets. Walking around them, explaining every single thing she could about whatever piece they glanced at. We received no attention. My s/o and I dress casually. Apparel isn't our primary form of expression, but I am admittedly a sucker for Murakami pieces. She would have known this had she gotten over her own self biases and held a conversation with us. The experience was distasteful because of this, and led me to having no interest in purchasing a piece from this gallery. The pieces were reasonably priced, and the selection was impressive. Solid selection of Murakami as of writing this. If you want to be treated as a customer, wear something that "looks" expensive. If you just want to look at the pieces, dress casually. The service could study the pieces more deeply based off of the conversations I had to overhear. Could likely take a few lessons away from them.
