My husband and I have been fortunate to collect amazing artwork over the years from original paintings, lithographs, photographs and even an original pencil drawing. So while vacationing in LaJolla and visiting the numerous art galleries we made a promise to each other that we were not buying anymore art. Simply because we have no more wall space. Then we came across LIK gallery. Before we entered we repeated our promise. Each photograph was breathtaking. We circled a few times and admitted we were in trouble. We stood several minutes looking at a photograph entitled Night Shadow. Brian and Katy, two art consultants, asked if we would like to view the photograph in a private room. No pressure at all from either one. They were both delightful. We looked at several frames and mattes. By then we were hooked. So, we are happily awaiting our new photograph. We recently purchased a beautiful piece for our new remodeled home and were delighted with the piece and the service we received at the Lik Gallery in La Jolla. A few of our friends have Peter Lik photos and we have always admired them. We visited the gallery in Honolulu many times hoping to someday acquire one ourselves. Well last year we did a remodel of our home and decided to look for a nice centerpiece for our living room. The Honolulu gallery is gone now so we visited the La Jolla gallery when we were visiting Southern California. We met Stephanie and she was very very kind and helpful. The timing of the purchase as a bit challenging due to the ongoing work in our house and the limited run of the piece we wanted. Stephanie was great keeping us updated as we finished our home. The negotiations and purchase was efficient and pleasant and the pictures arrived just as detailed. Amazing and captivating photographs! I would love to grow up to become this kind of photographer. The fall pictures alone melted my heart and reminded me of my home state of Michigan. The New York City pictures remind me of my mom; this is where she grew up and started her married life. The ocean pictures are incredible as well. They're all phenomenal and awe-inspiring! Staff is friendly and welcoming; exceptionally knowledgeable about the photographer and his background, vast array of work, recognition and awards, and impressed upon us she is proud to represent this artist. She even encouraged me to further my own photography efforts by entering photo contests - I'll think about it. Even though we discovered this gallery by surprise, it was the happiest curveball ever!We will recommend it to visiting friends and colleagues. And for sure we'll be back to keep up with his latest and greatest! Recommendation: Mr. Lik should visit Michigan and photograph one of the nation's natural wonders, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and the longest suspension bridge in the world, Mackinaw Bridge. While there, Traverse City has an amazing cherry season/festival not to be missed. Mackinaw Island is home to the Grand Hotel, the backdrop to the movie, "Somewhere in Time." The island doesn't allow cars; people get around by bike, horse, maybe a golf cart, or their own two feet. If visiting in the fall, as seen in some of his most enchanting photos, there are places all over Michigan for photo ops, but to name a few: Pictured Rocks, Tahquamenon Falls, and one of the many lakes in the Great Lakes State - Michigan. read more

He currently has art galleries in 13+ locations including: - Soho (New York, NY) - Aspen, CO - Australia - Beverly Hills, CA - Inyo County, CA (Death Valley) - Key West, FL - Miami Beach, FL - Lahaina, HI - Honolulu, HI - Houston, TX - Forum Shops at Caesars / Shoppes at Mandalay Place / Grand Canal Shoppes (Las Vegas, NV) As of June 2016, there were some really cool pieces including some NYC landscapes. Having a little bit of NYC in San Diego is nice. It makes us miss NYC a little less. Woot Woot! My favorite 2 pieces were a sunflower field and a walkway out into the water. One of the salespeople, Nate, was extremely helpful. He took the time to explain that the paper that the photographs were printed on contained silver crystals. We were in a dark room with halogen lights above the painting, and as he dimmed the lights, we felt like we were observing the sunset over a sunflower field in nature. It was really freaking cool. Proffesional photographer Peter Lik, a native Aussie, is a master of capturing the vibe and feeling of a setting. Not contrived or manipulated. However, his knowledge of photography & light and use of silver photographypaper maximizes the effect he intends to convey. Thompson was our gallery "guide". He was gracious, knowledgable and warmly enthusiastic. The tiny dark room is the ideal setting and space in which to view a respective photograph w/o distraction and to maximize the effect light has on the piece. Had only heard of this guy vaguely in the past. Apparently he is super famous and popular and has gallery/sales locations in 8-10 cities. Who knew? Anyway, his photos are pretty incredible and that they are printed on truly unique reflective photo paper makes them change with natural or artificial light. Have the sales person show you. My family and I visited the Lik gallery today and we were in awe. This is some of the most vivid and beautiful artwork I have ever seen. We went into a couple of the viewing rooms to look at the artwork under the dimmers. All I can say is WOW...it was beyond words. The colors in the pictures change as you dim or increase the lighting. Basically the pictures come alive with color. Definitely a gallery to visit. read more

I'm a fan of Lik's work. If you're not, that's ok too. After all, it's art, and we all have different tastes. This isn't a review of his work but the gallery itself and its staff. First, I'm hardly the demographic the gallery probably caters to - early thirties, dressed in jeans and a polo, married with a two year old in a stroller and a infant in tow - yet we felt welcome in the gallery. I was greeted promptly but not harassed. I admired the work without interruption until I had a question about a certain piece of artwork. Derek, who came to help us, was very low pressure/no pressure - that worked for me. Fast forward a couple months - I now own several pieces. Customer service is as you would expect from a company that sells such pricey items - excellent and responsive. Derek and his director, Jeff are great. Even if you don't buy anything, it's worth a visit. read more

All the Peter Lik photos are beautiful and very well displayed in all his galleries especially La Jolla and Lahaina. Anyways, I have collected three and so far, each time I go they like to load you up on drinks for free and let you sit in front of the piece and get to know it intimately. The works speaks for itself. I am going through a really hard time and need to sell my pieces. I own a 1 meter Aquamosaic in a plexiglass raised invisible frame, Genesis 1 meter w/black matte and dark brown frame, and Icy waters, also 1 meter, black matte with boxed brown frame. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G My husband and I first visited the National Geographic Fine Art Gallery next door and thought the photos were pretty amazing. Then we walked in here and we both FELL IN LOVE. The photos are absolutely beautiful!! I'm not a photographer so I can't say that I'm judging from an artistic point of view, but through the eyes of a normal human being, I can say that the photos were pretty awesome and amazing. Truly, Peter Lik is a master photographer. To see his work in a gallery is a real pleasure. His use of color and lighting is nothing short of spectacular. Do yourself a favor and ask to see the back room, where the photos on display magically change as the lights are dimmed. This guy is in my top ten tier of favorite photographers that have set up a stunning Gallery. I have visited the Vegas gallery and now La Jolla. Many of his photographic pieces are oversize captures of nature's earth, wind, fire and stone. This building is not unusual except the flooring is long planks of blonde wood with a dark core. I am reading some of the reviews, and I'm truly not here to give Peter Lik's art work a bad review. He is an incredible artist, and my husband and I will always be a fan. My experience at the gallery was nothing but terrible today. We were only treated nicely when the salesperson realized we knew his work, and actually have a few artwork at our home. It is pretty disappointing that we are judged by a pair of sandals, and casual clothing. The next mistake was the saleswoman didn't direct the conversation to me at any point. I believe any training in sales should include the wife as the decision maker for most part. I'm very very disappointed with all the sales people, and the overall experience. I'm sure It won't stop us from buying the art work. However I won't be visiting this location any time soon. read more

I don't normally write reviews, especially poor reviews, but I'm writing this now since Peter Lik did not return my message nor did his company address it after sending this letter to them. To whom it may concern, I was visiting San Diego from San Francisco on Sunday, Sept. 18, when my cousin took me to the Peter Lik Gallery in La Jolla, on 1205 Prospect Street, and unfortunately experienced very disappointing customer service. In fact, this poor service was so terrible I am compelled to write to you. While I could easily share this story on Twitter, Facebook, and my own personal blog, I am opting to share it with you out of consideration for Peter Lik since I am, and continue to be, a fan of his work. My cousin Liz, a fan also, visited the gallery before and was excited to take me there as we toured La Jolla. Arriving at the gallery, we walked in and admired the amazing photography on spotlight. I was fascinated by how the lighting on the photographs looked so brilliant; so radiant. I commented to my cousin about whether or not the photographs were backlit to give it that amazing lighting effect. She excitedly shared with me that Peter Lik's gallery has a demonstration on lighting and that it was, "very cool". Both her and I walked up to the young, blond, gallery saleswoman and Liz kindly asked her if she would demonstrate to me the uniqueness of Peter Lik's art with lighting. The woman replied, "I take it you've been here before?" Liz responded, "Yes, I have and it was amazing. I'd like my cousin to see for himself if you don't mind showing us." The saleswoman inquired as she sat us down in the demonstration room, "So do you own any?" Liz mused, "Oh I wish!" From that point on, the gallery saleswoman's attitude changed towards us. Her demonstration lasted less than a minute (I'm not exaggerating) and upon finishing she promptly left the room with me sitting there wondering what was "so cool". Liz, disappointed, turned to me and tried to salvage the situation by giving a far better demonstration herself from sheer memory. She apologized to me saying that the last time she was there, the gentleman really wowed her with how much the lighting changes the mood, ambiance, and feel of the photography. I believed her but was so shocked at how curt this gallery saleswoman was to us. We left the room and she ignored us the rest of the time we browsed the photographs. Leaving the gallery, she did not bid us farewell nor thank us for coming in. I mean even Hollister clothing stores greet and bid you farewell when you come in and out. Being a fan of Peter Lik, I am disappointed at such terrible customer service; especially in an age where one yelp review, one bad blast on twitter, and embarrassing youtube video is all it takes to sway the public's view. It saddens me to see such great art being represented by such a terrible docent. Moreover, it saddens me to see my excited cousin go from happy to disappointed simply because she was judged for not owning a Peter Lik photograph. The art never changed. Peter Lik is still an amazing photographer. However, I'm certain my cousin's view, along with mine, is currently in question. read more

This is not fine art. This is not fine art. Photography is fine art but this is not fine art. These lighted pictures are cheesy and the space is cheesy. I went there for their meet the artist opening which is false advertising by the way, and the artist is not there. The salesmen told me he doesn't attend the events, then why claim he does and bring out the red carpet. It is not that I planned on meeting the artist I just happened to walk by at the moment the event was going on because I just saw some real fine art on the same street. This is made for tourists and the like. read more

A staff greeted me a few minutes after, I was holding my coffee, which is not an issue in this up scale gallery. The staff even jokingly said it's not a problem if I'd let her have some. Visiting our local Peter Lik Gallery in La Jolla was truly a great experience. We usually walk and look at the shops, but the beauty of this place pulled us right in yesterday. The rep that was working there took the time to show us almost every image in the gallery. She was truly attentive and patient as we looked in detail. My wife loved the decor - not to mention the great photography. We left inspired and although I did not purchase anything in his collection, we both left wanting to. We have now set a goal of making a purchase before the end of the year. A Christmas present to ourselves. Now the next thing we need to do is select one of the many that we fell in love with.
