Actually, these sculptures are the kinds of thing you speed by a hundred times in a car, but never think to stop and look. So, here's your invitation to to just that -- or just to admire them on the internet from the comfort of your home. The mosaics are all by San Diego artist Kim Emerson http://www.kimemersonmosaics.com She's got other pieces at the port, the Sun Harbor Marina, and even at the Children's Hospital, just to name a few. They definitely reflect the 'feel' of America's finest city and, thus, deserve a second look. I appreciate the thoughtful conversation we had about 3 concepts I was considering and her desire to connect to better understand my hope and vision for a 2nd tattoo. She was open to a fluffy vaulting panda idea inspired by a Japanese-style watercolor painting with structure in black ink and a few green accents as bamboo leaves. She also captured 4 Chinese characters beautifully as calligraphy representing "Surrender" and "Victory." Nat is kind, patient, thoughtful, intentional, and her artwork and passion for art, patterns, symbols, plants, books, and music is inspirational. My experience was 10/10, and I intend to return for additional work in the near future. When I walked into the space, the man working greeted me quickly and said I could fill out a small paper choosing my favorite piece, and they do a 'best in show' every month, based on the votes. I surmise that he's just too busy being a Retail Design Rock Star to actually provide customer service or even mailout your Waverider Fin Gallery goods. I've been waiting 3 months now for my Yater Spoon Fin and have only been in contact with him briefly 2.5 months ago when he said he'd have the fin in his hand any day now. From October to January, I guess that's not enough time to return an email. While I don't believe he's a scammer, I sincerely believe that he just doesn't care. Today I visit his website and it's not even there anymore. My advice? Do a forced charge back through his credit card system. That's what I'm doing in the next ten minutes.
