A morning walk through Honoka'a turned into lunchtime and the lure of dumplings was irresistible. We enjoyed the flavor and spice levels of both the gyoza and buns. And saved one of the two buns for a road snack because they're so filling.

I was so happy to find this cute place in the town of Honokaa! We had chicken karaage buns, shrimp dumplings, two different types of ramen bowls and crafted beers Everything was delicious The only disappointment was that my noodles were on the overcooked side. I would definitely come back and want to try different dishes!

We stopped here for lunch and it quickly became our best meal of the trip! So many flavors and toppings on the bowl. Super friendly staff as well! Wish we weren't staying so far away or we would have been here for dinner too!

Food is fantastic & very affordable. We had the ube dumplings & boom boom garlic karaage chicken with a beer to share. Absolutely loved the space & the service was great as well. 11/10 would go again!

I try to eat here every weekend because I work across the street on the weekends . First time I ate there chicken salad I thought about the whole week lol .. I literally can eat that every day . I really like how there are so many little touches of flavor in everything down to the dressings sauces and marinades .. it's such a harmonious play of flavor and textures . I recently tried their miso soup which blew me away . The regular one is a must . but there smoked tofu miso you won't find anything like it . I love it because they smoke the tofu so it gives it such meaty hearty Smokey feel .. but it eats super light and makes you feel good and warm inside . The place is also so unique but pays homage to Honokaa and its history .. very thoughtful and I'm very blessed to have such a great spot close to us !

Took our friends from France here for an early dinner. Food was excellent and very reasonable prices. We all ordered different meals and shared. Highly recommend a visit here.

Smoked tofu hirata buns (spicy) the best Vegan food I had on the island. The guy asked me how spicy I wanted it and when I asked how he said it was a 6/10 but "flavorful type" and I'm glad I followed his advice. When I picked up my order I came back and got the Vegan matcha ice cream sandwich- the flavor and creaminess coulda fooled anyone that it wasn't dairy based. The only thing I'm disappointed with myself is that I didn't take a pic of the buns before I devoured it. Will definitely come back!

This adorable little restaurant has a Ramen shop feel, especially at night. Think sitting in a Studio Ghibli film. We went to check it out during the cherry blossom festival and drove the 1-1/2 hours each way to come back for Valentines. From their regular menu their rice bowl was my favorite. All the warm, homey elements that I am still thinking about. The fury sauce should be bottled - it's sooooo good! If we lived closer it would be dangerous! Their Valentines prix fix was an amazing deal and really highlighted everything I love about this place. So much food we took half our steak home! Highly recommend when in the Honokaa area.

We continue to frequent "I love dumplings" because the food is excellent/ served w aloha.

Food was incredible, went twice during week-long stay on the big island and had to try almost everything on the menu - ramen is delicious, as was the hot honey chicken. Service was super fast and prices great as well. Will definitely go out of the way to return in the future

Second day eating at this wonderful place. The food is fresh, delicious, perfectly seasoned and just hits the spot. The Karage is crispy, moist and not at all greasy-just the way it should be. The Ahi dumplings are generously stuffed, and that messy sauce and things on top make it so yummy. Great vibe to the place, friendly service, will definitely come back. Had the pork Shoyu noodles yesterday, by the way! So good!

Booth seating was perfect for us. The wait staff were super nice and patient with us. Their menu is huge and has a lot of options for customizing. Fortunately, there are diagrams on the wall to help you decide. I got a Miso Standard ramen ($20 with an Ajitama (seasoned soft boiled egg), hard texture, fried garlic, extra noodles. It was fabulous! Really hit the spot. Loved the chewier noodles and the rich, flavorful broth. DH got THE Garlic ramen ($26.50) also with an Ajitama, pork belly, and extra noodles, regular firmness. The kids wanted extra Naruto (fish cakes), 75 cents for 2 small pieces. One of our kids is under age 5, so we got a Miso mini ramen ($9.50 value) for free! Wow! Little one said he did not like the flavor of the seasoned egg. Noodles were very soft, but stayed together, and soaked up a ton of broth so they were flavorful. He said the Miso Mini comes with corn instead of fish cake. We loved all of the toppings. The pork belly was excellent! Portion sizes are great. We had some leftovers to take back. Overall, a fantastic place to satisfy those ramen cravings!

We had leftovers that were great the next day for lunch as well. This is a popular place so be prepared. We ate inside not having a reservation but I'd suggest calling for a reservation outside. Also keep in mind that rents are high in Kona, it's a challenge to find people that can afford it and work in our restaurants, so be kind to them. Parking is also a challenge but patience and determination will get you there. Currently if you are a Costco member you can purchase gift cards for $80 that will get you $100 at the restaurant, so effectively a 20% discount. Those discount cards seem to rotate in and out at Costco so that will probably change. We've gotten two takeout dinners since then and it's a definite favorite of ours. Mahalo.

They have a TV showing historical clips of the Japanese immigrants who moved to Hawaii. We learned so much just dining there! The servers were very nice and friendly. They even offer free, hot green tea. It wasn't crowded when we went there for lunch. The server said we could order from the dinner menu too. The restaurant is decorated with a bunch of old family photos. It's not a fancy food location, but a place that is in the locals' hearts. Also, it's not standard Japanese American food, so don't come in looking for rolls and such! Instead, they serve fresh, perfectly prepared Japanese food with a Hawaiian twist, favorites like saimin and shrimp tempura. The large saimin ($16.17) was delicious and really hit the spot. Toppings were Spam, eggs, and veggies. Simple, but tasty! Shrimp tempura appetizer ($14.85) was a pretty large sized dish. The pieces have a lot of crunchy batter and the kids loved it. It was a bit greasy, but that's to be expected. DH got a Oyako Donburi with sashimi ($21.93). Wow, the sashimi was truly amazing! So tender, it just melts in your mouth. The eggs were cooked with bamboo pieces which kinda threw DH off. I liked them, but DH would've preferred it without. The flavor is sweet/salty and pretty mild. It came with miso soup and some pickles. Parking is right in the front and backs into the main road. It can be spicy getting out if traffic is heavy. They don't have a lot of bathrooms, so there might be a wait. Those are the downsides. Otherwise, a wonderful local place to eat!

Hands down, the quesabirria tacos and flautas are as good as they come--absolutely amazing. We happened upon this place on Yelp, and I was a little skeptical, but after the first bite, I felt transported back to Mexico. My entire family agreed that these are the best quesabirria tacos we have had outside of Mexico, and possibly even in Mexico. The flavors were amazing, and the consommé was absolutely delicious. We are regulars on the Big Island and normally do not eat Mexican food because we have never found a good spot, with the exception of Shaka Tacos. This place was really busy, and there was only one person working. She was doing it all--taking orders, collecting money, and making all the delicious food. She was never rude and was so pleasant. She said the cooks had called in and she was the only one there. Talk about dedication! She made sure everyone got their food, and it was made perfectly. I cannot commend her enough for all the work she did and for putting out an outstanding order of food. She is a real gem and should be treated as such! It is so hard to find good employees today, and her dedication and attitude inspired me. I wish we had gotten her name, but she said she is always there.
