It was my first time in Belgium, so, naturally, I had to have a Belgian waffle. I didn't know there was a difference between Belgian and specifically Bruges waffles, but either way, the selection in Bruges is large.
I split a banana and berry one with my husband. There waffle was at the bottom and came with a whole, pre-sliced banana, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries, and whipped cream. There's a toppings bar at the front with a free-for-all of chocolate, caramel, sprinkles, sauces, etc. I wanted to keep it simple, so I sprinkled a few dark chocolate flakes and called it a day.
The waffle itself is thick and dense, large portion, and saturated in sugar, but very firm, almost crispy on the outside, and not fluffy. When eating it on it's own, I found it to be too sweet and heavy for my taste, but the fruit helped. The fruit was extremely fresh and they didn't skimp on the portion. If you have sweet tooth, I'd taste the waffle itself first, as well as with whatever your order comes with, before adding any extra toppings.
They also sell fresh fruit smoothies and juices here, however, they ran out of some of the ingredients while we were there so we just got a bottle of water. Prices are reasonable and service was fast and friendly. Note that the ledge outside asks patrons not to sit on it, and it's quite a small place and no seating inside, so you'll just have to eat it in the street like we did! read more
