Fantastic service. I contacted them several weeks out to arrange for a rental a week before their official opening and they didn't hesitate to help me out. I was visiting on a cruise ship for the day and wanted to get a good long ride in and the road bike they lent me was perfect. The bike had a little pannier on the back with a tire kit and lock and more than enough room for me to store my HUGE hoodie and ID. No issues at all with the gears or brakes and the bike was is great repair. I will definitely rent from them again if I find myself back in Halifax. read more

Waste of money. Poor quality bikes. Shameless owner. Rented 2 electric bikes for 2 days. Returned after first day (refused to reimburse us for unused next day) I would tell people not to rent from this establishment. The electric bikes seemed old and worn. Going uphill at one point while still peddling the bike couldn't surpass 10km/hr. Other electric bikes I have used surpass this with little to no effort. Avoid at all cost. My wife and I took a 2-hour bike tour from this shop and afterwords biked a loop through the city. I enjoyed the enthusiasm and energy of our tour leader (Grace), and happy with what we learned and saw in those two hours. The people we interacted at the shop were very friendly and helpful. The only thing I wished I had better understood before we showed up for the tour is the types of bikes we were renting (and I don't blame the store for this). When I showed up I was directed to what looked liked a orange woman's cruiser bike with no front derailer. We got them easily upgraded to mountain bikes, but just something to ask about when you rent there. Yes, the streets are not THAT step where you have to have this, but it is nice to have. read more

Wonderful way to see different historical landmarks and get a flavor of the city! Love that it is a college town and that the hope is to keep the small town vibe even as the city grows / thrives. Grace is without question an awesome bike tour leader - extremely knowledgable, enthusiastic, outgoing and fun! She knew the ins and outs and local tidbits of the city that we would have missed out on had we not taken the tour with her. She epitomized the good cheer and mellow vibe that we experienced from everyone that we met in Halifax. Smiles and hellos were in abundance. I was just in the store today, I have to say the girl working was SO friendly and helpful, made me really enjoy my experience there. They had the best selection of fun, patterned helmets and awesome Halifax bike themed t-shirts and accessories . I can't wait to go back and pick a shirt up. Our first day in Halifax! And what better way to get a lay of the land by taking a bike tour! We had the pleasure of going on a personal tour with Kerewin, I'm guessing it was a slow day for them. Kerewin was amazing, she kept a good pace and really looked out for us. She did well in explaining what to expect from the tour and from biking Halifax. Coming from Toronto, biking here is easy! This is how it should be! Kerewin took us to the major attractions and did a good job of explaining to us the historical significance of the sights. It really gave us a good overview of the history of Halifax as well as what is up and coming. She also gave us ideas on where would be good to come back and spend more time, as well as other places to check out. Definitely a must see if visiting Halifax! read more

Instead of a cruise excursion, we booked this 2-hour bike tour at I Heart Bikes, while in Halifax. On our tour was just one vacationing couple + 2 of us + Elsa, our charming guide, who kept us informed & entertained, and was very conscientious in keeping us safe. All 4 of us on the tour were mid-50s or older, and it wasn't a problem for any of us. From the cruise ship (SeaPort), this is a 0.6 mile scenic walk along the harbor on the boardwalk, to the bright-yellow shipping container that is I Heart Bikes. EZ to get to. You'll get a 7-speed bike with front basket for your stuff, bottle of water, and they'll fit you with a helmet. We went so many places in 2 hours. Boardwalk, busy parts of the city, Point Pleasant Park, the Public Gardens, some nice bike trails, the new (& I think only) bike path in the city, the new Library, and the Citadel, which I think is the highest point in the city. We all handled the steep climb to the Citadel; it was good exercise! The stops are all short, of course, but we fit a lot into this tour and got many great pictures. Learned a lot of history, and saw a lot of the city in the best way possible. For a medium-sized city, this was easy to bike. If you can handle a bike, then this is the tour for you. If you want more of a workout, schedule the 4-hour (there's a longer one too) instead. This one was just right for us. read more

We rented two "hybrid" bikes from them for a day; these came at a premium and were promised good road and trail performance. The process of renting over the phone was easy and went off without a hitch. When we arrived at the shop on the day what we were presented were far from premium. It was a smattering of mediocre parts (ok there was one Shimano wheel out of the four), dirty chains, squeaky brakes and various other things that i should've seen all together as a concern. Regardless, as we were really looking forward to our ride we accepted the guidance for a trail from the store rep and off we went. 15km into the ride (10km on gravel) we got a flat. No big deal right?, they happen to everyone and the lady at the store had ensured us our gear included a full tire replacement kit... except the pump doesn't work! There is a basic hand pump provided that is of little actual use. What a disaster! Bad equipment, ineffective gear, and pricey. AVOID IF YOU CAN. read more

EXCELLENT!! The BIKES part: The 2+ hour bike tour of several points of interest in Halifax offers historical and funny facts and overviews of some of Halifax's top sites. The guide was very friendly, and made sure each participant could keep up and was comfortable with the ride - the pace and the terrain. The team at the kiosk and office phones were more than accommodating - helpful to make sure you could get there and had everything you needed. The 2nd part of the tour was on foot and was approximately 2 hours as well: The BITES part. We toured specialty food shops and a few restaurants to taste some flavors of the city - mostly in and around the waterfront. The guide was a chef who was currently (purposely) unemployed with any restaurant to pursue new ventures. Her love and her interest in food, and her rapport with the restaurant and specialty food shop owners added to the delight of all who were on the tour. The guide was also able to make recommendations for restaurants, or give unbiased reviews of same. I LOVED this part. This type of tour should be offered in EVERY city. It gives visitors a chance to "taste" local flavors and decide on a place to eat, as well as select specialty food gifts to take home. My only disappointment: That more restaurants have not signed on with the tour. Otherwise, the sense of community amongst business owners in Halifax is amazingly friendly. I truly believe, that with time, I Heart Bikes will expand their "Bites" part of the tour to include more restaurants and pubs and local favorites flavors. read more

Staff was very friendly and it is a great place to ride. Standard cruiser bikes very heavy and not pleasant to ride. All rental insurance is bad but theirs in the worst I have ever seen. They sell insurance for $10, but it only covers up to $100. So if you have a major problem with the bike, or it is stolen, you are not covered. So if you think about it, for car rental you pay $14/day (not a good deal) for a $40,000 car, but $10 covers a maximum limit of $100 (premium =10% max coverage)! read more
