The boat is quite the picture of ingenuity - the benches were church pews in their previous life. They were incredibly helpful in assisting us getting on and off the boat as my husband has a mobility issue. Highly recommend this one hour tour.

If you ARE from the Maritimes, another coastal equivalent, or a band of scurvy-ridden pirates, you're probably well aware of the value of a day out on the water with a fully stocked bar slash the need for a first mate who doesn't know the meaning of 'mutiny'. The Tall Ship Silva is a local standard on the gorgeous Halifax waterfront, bringing regular boatloads of tourists and locals alike through tours of the habour, the Bedford Basin, and even the luxurious backyards of the houses on the North West Arm. That last one sounds creepy 'cause it kinda is. The Silva is roomy enough for a large crowd including a little jam space for a small band (if your party brought one along or booked them) and rocking out to Barrett's Privateers and Great Big Sea covers. A small room with a bar has comfortable bank seating for those who don't quite have their sea legs or weren't told that they probably shouldn't try to rock heels while soaring the high seas. Plus it has all the booze - you'll want to make note of this. The larger downstairs dining room is pretty basic but can be fully decked out with custom meal menus and catering for longer treks and can be particularly useful as one of two covered rooms (the bar is the other) for those times when the weather makes you want to just throw yourself overboard to put yourself out of your misery. Based on what they do and how they do it, the Silva definitely earns its four stars from me. The only thing is that your experience entirely depends on who goes with you, and how the weather is while you're out. If you can't nail down at least one of these two, you're probably not going to love it. Otherwise, it's a great venue for theme, office, or fundraiser parties!

Our tour lasted almost 7 hours and we were on a cruise ship and in Halifax for the day. He picked us right up at the port, had a sign with our names on it and there were 4 others with us in a nice van. A great small group of 6 people. We toured around the whole city, got to walk through the Public Gardens, stopped at the Citadel and saw the cannon fire at noon and the changing of the guard, learned so much about the explosion that killed many in Halifax and also learned things I did not know about the Titanic. We went to 2 different Titanic cemetaries and passed by even more. We stopped in a charming fishing village and had lunch at a local and delicious seafood restaurant. We could not have asked for a better day with a more enthusiastic host. He provided waters for us the entire day and also had a TV screen in the car to show us pictures and videos about all of the great stories he told us throughout the day. We were given a quick run through of the safety procedures and away we went. The tour aspect of the boat was kind of strange. The age group that was on the boat was more excited to just be on the water and the coloring pages provided. Even though we were a few minutes late getting off ship, Al still managed to get us to the Citadel in time for the changing of the guards and the cannon firing. Easy to find him when we got off the cruise ship with a big pink sign (I felt like a celebrity)! There were four of us and we had a can which made it easy to get in and out. The hiking portion of the tour does have some spots where good balance is needed as we follow and narrow path but has rocks along it. Also a few places where you have to step up over a rock or two" FALSE This was a hard, strenuous, dangerous hike. We scaled 4 foot boulders, scraped thru brush and trees, balanced across wood planks over boggy areas and went thru steep inclines and declines. You need to be in good shape and wear hiking boots. This is not a casual walk around Peggy's Cove.

Both Ryan and Dean were so great with our kids who were at times a little, ahem, cranky, and they enthusiastically joked with them and helped cheer them up when they were having melt downs. Ryan even helped our daughter find cool rocks at one of the beaches we explored. My husband is an adventurous guy who is from Halifax and has toured around the province a lot and I have lived here for 10 years and have done some touring myself and they took us to places neither of us had been to before. I never knew Nova Scotia had such diverse and gorgeous spots! While we were driving around, Ryan told us so much about the history of the area and it was absolutely fascinating. He is a deep well of knowledge which definitely enriched our experience. Both Dean and Ryan are kind and funny. We clicked immediately. I loved the adventure we went on today and our kids keep saying they want to do it again. Thanks for such a great day!
