This tour was a wonderful way to learn about the history of Halifax and see the city in a unique way. Our tour guide was very personable and knew a lot about the city and our driver/captain sang songs for us. Going in the water was really cool and was a unique experience. Highly recommend this as a great way to learn about and see the sights in Halifax.

Great way to enjoy Halifax by land and sea. The tour uses refurbished and repurchased Vietnam War amphibious boats. It is really a lot of fun. The best part is splashing into the bay. The Captain and narrator do an excellent job at telling the history of Halifax. Unfortunately, most of it is pretty grim. In 1918 there was a blast from a ship that exploded because it was carrying explosives and collided with another ship. Anyone that was outside during the blast was blinded. That was a good portion of the town. The tour travels on a hill that was a burial ground. Also, the Titanic sunk off the shores of the city. Viewing the Halifax from the harbor gives you a whole new perspective. It was fun, especially when the other Harbor Hopper boat passed us. The boats fit many people. I would wear a mask even though you are outside. You are all cramped together. My husband came back from Canada with Covid-19. It may have been from the Harbor Hopper. Also, wear a hat and sunscreen. Thanks so much for a great time!

Looks strange but is a great tour

Fun, exciting and definitely different than any of the other harbour tours. You go from land to water - all the time being entertained by the first mate give a constant ant narration of history and other local tidbits. Will definitely take this tour again on my next visit.

Very informative and a lot of fun. Good way to see the highlights of the city by land and water. Our guide knew the city!! Good value for the time spent.

Amphibious tour bus... Nuff said To be honest I'm not a fan of tour buses. I prefer to use Yelp as my tour guide. That being said I decided to try this out because I don't get the opportunity to ride amphibious vehicles very often. Dress accordingly and prepare to get wet. Engine is loud at the back. So move to the front if you want to listen to the tour guide. Kudos to her. It was an entertaining and informative tour. I got to learn about Halifax history, breweries, and lunch spots. Needless to say I was on a strict diet of fish & chips and Alexander Keith for a while. Ribbit ribbit, mutha frogger!

Our amazing tour guide, Abigail, who stood the entire tour even though she had a broken ankle in a cast.

It was a cold, rainy, and basically all-around misery of a day. We had walked around Halifax for a couple of hours and were soaked straight through but still wanted to go on the duck tour we had reserved a few days prior. And we're so glad we did! We learned a few very important things on this tour by our 12-year old tour guide Annabelle: 1. Waving to Citadel Hill is not considered crazy. It's what the locals do (and do as the locals do or else the tour guide gets tetchy!). 2. Don't run up Citadel Hill in the dark. You may fall into the "Pit of Death" and sprain your ankle. 3. The locals have lunch with live music in a park in the summers, which is accompanied by an also live cannon punctuating noon. There's nothing like a little firepower to charge up ones lunch hour. 4. You are toured down a street that 30,000 people walk down daily, but do not get to hit any of them. 5. It felt like The Captain drove into the water at full speed. No kidding, this was not a "wading" experience. Loved it. 6. And last but not least, It's not a duck tour, it's an "amphibious LARC V" vehicle tour, which is much MUCH better than a duck tour. For one thing, they bought American! Another thing Is you get to luxuriate in a million dollar vehicle for your tour. For another thing... You'll have to take it to find out the rest! Thank you very much to our driver/captain and our tour guide Annabelle. Just kidding Abigail! See we Hawaiians on your chilly Harbour Hopper tour were paying attention (even though we didn't wave at Citadel Hill. She was sleeping and we thought it would be rude to wake her). We loved your tour and know that your Mom (Hi Mom!) would be proud of you. Abigail is an educational and very entertaining tour guide! P.S. If this is your one and only lifetime trip to Halifax, you may want to bring your own flag. If Abigail is your tour guide, you'll find out why!

I'd always seen the HH driving about town and wondered why people would do something so touristy... But I did get a free ticket from a friend to go so thought I would give it a whirl. It was actually very educational, even for a Haligonian and I learnt a lot of things about the city I didn't know before (ie Brunswick street used to be called "knock 'em down alley", who knew? It was nice that it was both a water and land tour since it gives you perspective of the city from every angle. The tour guide was super enthusiastic and good at her job. She clearly knows a lot about the noisy and was wager to share, I'd definitely recommend this to anyone whether you're from Halifax or just visiting.

We met on a wet & soggy afternoon in front of the Fish Shop at the Halifax Market. Groups are limited to about 12 people. Forget your umbrella or poncho? no problem, there are some goodies in Emily's red tote bag. The longest walking segment is from the Market to Barrington st., then everything else is 2-3 minutes to the next location. At each location, we are told a nice tid bit of history about the area and the business we will be enjoying a tasting from. Here is what we enjoyed during our walk: The Fish shop - chowder with smoked salmon Uncommon Grounds - seedy oat cakes Talay Thai - spring rolls Morris Eats - pizza Rum Runners - rum cake Chives - biscuit with carrot soup Timing is important and the walk is relaxed enough so that we hit each spot on time. When we went,…read morewe started at Goldwater in the market, where we had a bite-sized lobster roll; which was super fresh and quintessential Nova Scotia, but rather small. We went from there to Johnny Ks, where we had a bite-sized beef gyro, which while tasty, was a very small portion, and nothing special. From there we puttered out of the downtown area to the Chain Yard Cidery, where one of the managers met with the group and shared great details about their business, along with two shots of cider (which were both delicious), and a tasty treat. From there we went to Salvatore's for a mini slice of cold pizza (underline & italicize mini and cold), which was extremely disappointing. We wrapped up at Five Fishermen, for chowder and wine, which was the highlight (followed by the Chain Yard). The chowder was a good portion, and I appreciated the two glasses of local wines. I've taken food tours in other cities, and was expecting similar (more upscale). Their price is less than other tours I've taken (which helps), but I didn't take a food tour to have a bite of a gyro and a cold half-a-slice of pizza. I understand the lobster roll as a coastal treat, and it was very fresh, the other two stops were what I was expecting for the entire experience. With so many restaurants in the downtown area, I'm not sure why we drove to the outskirts and back. I thought there would've been a stop for a scoop of infamous Nova Scotian homemade ice cream (plenty of options, and relatively cheap). If Five Fisherman didn't accommodate our food-allergy (nothing was offered as an alternative at Goldwater), I would've been extremely frustrated, and our tour-guide wasn't sure they'd have something for us, even though we gave advanced notice of the shellfish allergy and they said it would be fine. On the plus side, the tour guide did a great job sharing the history of Halifax, was very knowledgeable about local wines, and enthusiastic about the food scene.

Top of our list was to have a horse and carriage ride around that pretty town. It's a beautiful place, but Shay, our expert driver brought the whole town to life. Not only was it interesting to hear about the history of the architecture and who lived in these beautiful homes, but we also got to hear about what happened to the horses during the wildfires. Farmers all over the province came with horse trailers to help get horses to safety. Amazingly kind people love on the East coast! If you are to Nova Scotia , make sure to go to Lunenburg, put this on your list as a must do. It really does take you back to the early days when life was much simpler and it was a delightful ride. Shay's parents came for a visit with their family a couple of years ago, fell in love with Lunenburg. They found the horse farm business, bought it from a retiring farmer.
