Clean, comfortable room
Jessica S.

As usual, I did a ton of research before actually booking a hotel for our recent short trip to Montreal. I wanted something in a good neighborhood, with easy access to the Metro, a good walking score, and something fairly cheap. I can be quite precious sometimes, can't I? To be honest, my two biggest concerns were proximity to Parc Jean-Drapeau and cost. We were going for a music festival at the Parc, and I was trying to keep it cheap to further entice my husband into being okay with this crazy scheme of mine. Hotel St-Denis checked all my boxes, and after reading reviews on several different sites, I pulled the trigger. We were not disappointed. Location-wise, this can't be beat. It's on the Rue Saint-Denis, which is chock-full of restaurants, shops, theaters and people. It's an easy walk to Old Montreal, the Metro, Rue Saint-Catherine and plenty of bars, but it's not right in the center of the activity, so you don't have to worry about noise or any shenanigans. I will tell you that I fell in love with the Rue Saint-Denis while we were there. We spent most of our time walking that street for food, drinks, and pictures. It's SO incredibly charming - between the patios the extend into the streets and the architecture - that I couldn't get enough of it. It's also very close to a main Metro hub, which is super convenient, should you need to get somewhere beyond your comfort zone. Granted, I was all set to walk to Parc Jean-Drapeau, but the timing didn't work out. And then, by the time we left the festival, neither of us were in any condition to make the trek, so the proximity to the station was a nice bonus. Price-wise, they couldn't be beat. Most of the other hotels that were coming up in my Travelocity search were anywhere from $40 - $70 more than this hotel, and they were much further out (a metro ride to Parc Jean-Drapeau would have taken over an hour for those). The hotel itself is in a plain building with a tiny lobby. Every person we interacted with during our stay was friendly and helpful. They offered suggestions on things to do and see, as well as places to eat and drink. They greeted us every time we left or returned to the hotel. It was nice. We only took the elevator once - on our way up - and that was only because I didn't realize the staircase was so close. The elevator is tiny. It's like a closet on wheels. I fight claustrophobia on my best days, and that thing made the panic seem real. Good thing we only had to go up to the 3rd floor, but we avoided it afterwards. Our room was at the end of a hall, which meant we only shared one wall. That was a bonus because, though we only shared one wall, we could still hear way more of our neighbors than I wanted to. Especially in the bathroom...so yeah, the walls were thin, but luckily we didn't have rowdy neighbors. The room itself was perfect. It was clean, larger than I had anticipated, and had an A/C unit in the window (which we had to get creative with in order to use the unit while sleeping). The bathroom was small but clean. But the best thing about that room was the bed. I don't often love hotel room beds, mostly because it's like sleeping on a rock, no matter how soft they claim it is, but this bed really was quite comfortable. I could see myself sleeping there for a week without any issues (usually I develop a soreness in my back when sleeping on those hard-as-rocks beds). I would very much recommend staying here, if you find yourself in Montreal. Not only is it a great value, it's easy walking distance to things like Old Montreal, Chinatown, Mont Royal and the metro. It's clean, the staff is friendly, and the bed is wonderful. Plus, the WiFi was fast and free. I really can't ask for much more than that.

I had an absolutely amazing stay. There are no cons I can think of. I only speak English and was able to converse with the staff easily. There are many good restaurants a few feet from the hotel. There Berri UQAM station which will take you all over the city is a 3 minute walk. There's an IGA grocery store about 5 minutes away. The street is quiet without street noise but in the middle of everything. Easy subway ride to Le Plateau, Mont Royal, and many other places. The staff was very friendly. Onto the accomodations: room was spotless. There was a safe and a fridge. The room was above average size for a hotel and had a nice large bathroom. It was very homey and well decorated. It didn't feel like a cheap motel. I seriously can't believe how much of a steal this place was. I'm so grateful for this hotel for making my visit to Montreal so pleasant. I'll absolutely stay here upon return to Quebec!

King size bed and hardwood floor- win

Major 1 star deduction was for the shower head, because our bathroom had a broken shower head. It caused us having a hard time taking a shower without one hand holding it, but everything else about the hotel was pretty nice. The location was spot-on, it's near the subway Berri-UQAM, it's closed by to many restaurants, front desk were great, and the room was pretty spacious. The hardwood floor, king size bed, FREE water bottle, and the medallion on the ceiling, just made my stay there so awesome. Elevator was tiny but hey, I'm tiny size, so it's all good. You should visit the game room, it's like underground with all the rocks and bricks, super cool. I'm not sure if this hotel used to be a hostel or something, but other than the shower head issues, I love staying here, would totally recommend it over Lord Berri, which is another block away.

room w/hardwood floor and king-size bed (all you see is all you get. xD)

It was also very well kept - a little outdated, but spotless with a very comfy bed.

Checking in was very easy and they even said they were expecting me, which was very refreshing after the last hotel I stayed in for business, which was the Hilton in Richmond, VA at Short Pump in which the staff was very condescending and poor at checking people in, especially business travelers. This place definitely took great care at check in to make sure I felt welcomed, including asking me if I had any questions. She went over everything I needed to know about the property. When I got to the room I was impressed with the size of it - it was pretty large, with lots of open space, a decent desk, plenty of seating, and a very nice, clean, and comfortable bed which was fitted with ironed sheets! The TV in the room was disproportionately small and their streaming channel options were limited, but I made the best of it, as it's mostly background noise while I'm working anyway. The location is decent, only a couple of blocks from the Rue Sainte-Catherine shopping and dining area, which also has the Complexe Desjardins (a mall). There's a Metro station a block away as well. They have a decent size gym with all the normal stuff and a pretty nice, two-level lounge for those with access via their loyalty level. Overall, I'm enjoying the stay here and would return!

One standout was the gym, which is much better than what you typically find in hotels, with multiple treadmills, a stair stepper, ellipticals, and a solid selection of weights. They also have a two lane indoor pool and an indoor hot tub, which were nice added amenities. I especially appreciated that my room had a patio, it was great being able to get some fresh air. The only downside was the noise. There were very loud neighbours in the hallway with screaming and music playing until around 11:30 pm. I contacted the front desk and was told security would be sent up, but no one came and the noise continued past midnight. Overall, a solid hotel with great amenities, but the lack of follow through on the noise issue was disappointing.

Being downtown it can get and will get noisy but again great basic value hotel. Again it's all basic but you are buying location, location, location. Being downtown it can and will get noisy. There are homeless, you are downtown but this is a great value for staying downtown. I asked where St Catherine Street is and it's right outside the door. Chinatown is down the street, Old Town a little farther but walkable or take several metro options for about $11 for a 24hr pass. I booked through hotels.com a 1 night stay on 1/2/24. So horrific: 1. The pictures are clean. The reality is a s-hole dump. Beer bottles and trash lined the walkway to the door. The entire building smelled of smoke. 2. Front desk staff barely communicative. 3. Room was FAR smaller than advertised and was also dirty. The room to which I was assigned looked like NOTHING IN ANY OF THE PHOTOS. 4. Public shared restroom: i did not even go in since everything else smelled like piss, cigarettes and beer, I figured the bathrooms were also disgusting. 5. Parking is off site; no bell hop or other staff to carry bags up two flights of stairs (no lift). The only plus is that I got a few dollars of one key rewards for walking in and out of a horriffic, unsanitary, smoky boarding home- far far below any consideration of the name "hotel." It's not even hostel level. This is an unhealthy, and borderline dangerous place to stay. It is destined to close down, fail, and die. You may too if you stay there. DO NOT BOOK THIS HORRIBLE PLACE. I left within three minutes

My friend and I walked away in silence and immediately looked at each other like, "Was that real?" It was just an oddly unpleasant interaction that set the tone. On the positive side, the rooms are big and clean. Every housekeeper we passed in the hall was incredibly warm and friendly. A couple things to note: 1) no valet, and 2) in our room, the shower feels like it's in the middle of the space and lacks basic privacy. Totally fine if you're with a best friend or partner, but I would've been mortified if I were sharing the room with anyone else. Not sure if it's just this layout or if all the rooms are like that. In the picture I posted, the shower is that glass panel on the left side of the picture with pink frosted glass.

But I'm not sure I actually like the style. They lean super hard into their theme. Pink is everywhere, there's a strong signature scent pumped through the lobby, and the whole place feels like it was designed for a photo shoot more than a comfortable stay. It's nice, but just a bit too much across the board. It's definitely a sexy hotel, great for bringing a spouse or significant other. But you'll want to be at a stage in your relationship where you're comfortable using the bathroom with the other person in the room - because there's almost no privacy. Glass walls and open layouts look cool, but they don't leave much to the imagination. If you love bold, highly styled spaces and don't mind a little flash over function, this could be perfect. I'll pass on returning but I won't say it isn't beautiful.

There were plenty of options including oatmeal, cereals, fresh bagels, assorted meats and cheeses, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, a variety of fruit, juices, milk, coffee and tea.
