Where do i begin! The rooms are okay if not odd shaped and the bed was tiny even though they said standard queen (yeah standard only in Canada). Otherwise room was fine besides the cleaning which was so annoying. Room cleaning they ask do you want it cleaned everyday and we said yes (reception asked) as weather was snowy and ice storm and we were out and about all day in that weather so we looked forward to nice clean warm room when we returned each day. NOPE both days we were given excuses why it was not done and both times reception said we did ask to have room cleaned (Please the weather was brutal and our snow shoes were dripping everywhere...why would I not request it and when I showed that we had sign out every morning for cleaning we were told they were short staffed and then it was a mistake and so and so on. We sat in reception day one for nearly two hours (entry to room 4.45pm) while we waited for room to be cleaned and 2nd day 45 minutes (5.15pm) Room still dirty and no toilet paper Said Manager would contact us and take care of this and of course he never did even though requested twice at reception ...Very busy guy must be! And worse was the breakfast what a rubbish breakfast...three little chaffing dishes with scrambled egg/sausage and dry old potato ...no juice / yogurts warm and not on ice ..only thing nice was croissent . $23 or so they charge ...nuts...maybe venting to much but this is not first class service and there are better places for brunch all around. I stayed at this hotel near the end of August. On my final night, I saw a bed bug crawling in my bed at 11:30pm. Attached is the photo. I reported this to the front desk, showing the photo. The front desk attendants said they do not believe it is a bed bug. We went up to my room. I inspected some more and saw several in the seams of the bench at the foot of the bed. I showed this to the attendants. They took pictures of the bedbugs and took steps to vacate me out of the room. They said the hotel was at maximum capacity and there were no rooms available for me. I waited in the lobby as they looked for other nearby hotels for me. At 1:40am, after finding another hotel proved difficult, they told me, they actually did have another room available. As I had a flight early the following day, I had no choice but to stay in the room provided. Although I did not see any live bed bugs, I did see droppings and carcasses behind the mattress. The following morning, I spoke to the hotel supervisor. The supervisor said he will get an outside inspector to inspect the room for bed bugs before they can issue any sort of refund. The supervisor said he looked himself and did not see any bed bugs. I do not believe any outside inspection was done as you can see in other reviews, this is a reoccurring issue that has never been addressed. I never received a refund or follow up. Besides this, I saw mice running around in the hotel lobby. Please avoid at all costs! In part I should have been more wary from the beginning as the bed bench had stains and the bed frame had what I thought was dirt/debris. read more

The worst experience ever by far!!! They are super dis-organized, rude service desk, they say okay we will do but never take action at all. Stayed her for week, asked everyday to clean the room, they never did, made excuses like the cleaning people called out, didn't show up, or you are no on the list blah blah. The REAL PERK is location. Mouth of Chinatown, near everything (old Montreal, st cath/shopping, st Lauren/st denis, etc). One slow elevator Floors are in need of repair. Guy at front desk has no interest in wearing a mask, yet his coworkers did.... WONDERFUL STAFF! The staff here are welcoming and every time we come back they would greet us with a smile or hi. I feel appreciated by these small gestures as we stayed here for a few days. Wished the staff would wear masks when speaking to us for safety. They lock the doors late at night for everybody's safety and you can use your own key cards to enter if you ever do stay out after midnight. Interior has a nice modern feel with a white piano in the lobby. There's a convenience store connected which is amazing if you need to buy any snacks or water. Close to everything, that's the perk here is the location. Hotel rooms: it felt like a warehouse feel to it and the TVs are angled weird. Elevators are slow. Had the 12th floor (highest floor) and view is decent, room feels dark. Had to sign in wifi daily Price: a bit overpriced for the quality of the rooms, great location though. read more

We arrived at the Hotel on April 9th, 2022, and checked in on April 10th, 2022. During the time we stayed there, the behaviors of the valet staffs were unacceptable and horrendous. On April 9th, we asked the front desk to retrieve our vehicle at 5:30 PM , as the staff informed us they would need around 15 minutes to prepare our vehicle. However, we didn't get our vehicle back until 6:15 PM. The lack of punctuality by the valet staff directly resulted us missing a show at Rio Tinto Alan Planetarium. As the result, a monetary loss of $44 was incurred. On April 10th, when we checked out and get our vehicle back, we were astonished by what we found inside: - Our odometer showed that someone drove the vehicle for around 100 kilometers during the night of April 9th, during which we don't have the key fob & access to our vehicle. It was very likely one of the valet staffs occupied our vehicle for personal use; this was totally unacceptable as we didn't permit anyone to use our vehicle for other uses and it was against the law. - The fuel gauge showed that whoever used our vehicle during the night of April 9th almost emptied our fuel tank. (A monetary loss of $50 was incurred.) - We found a lot of food debris & wastes left on the carseat & console, the decorations and tissue box in our vehicle were on the floor instead where they were when we left the vehicle with the valet staff on April 9th. - The interior of our vehicle was covered with way more dirt & dust than the condition when we left the vehicle on April 9th. We were so disappointed and angry at the experiences we had at the Hotel, and these really ruined our trip in Quebec. Hope Hotel will connect us for an apology soon. read more

This hotel is located next to Chinatown and is very central. Great location. The check-in is a bit slow as there is often only one person at the front desk. The rooms are good. Modern and clean, but small. My only advice is to call at least 45mins to 1hr for your car valet when you checkout as they only have two valets and we ended up waiting for 1hr for our car. Situated in somewhat the red light district of Montreal and across Chinatown, the hotel is within walking distance to Notre Dame Basilica which is in Old Montreal as well as two metro stations. I think we scored big on this one. We drove up from NY so a car was in tow. It could be a pain driving around the city due to parking accessibility, plus, their public transit is way too good to pass up on. What to do with our car? Lucky enough, they have valet/overnight parking available with in and out privileges for about $25. Due to the parking lot being offsite, the downside is that you need to give the valet at least half an hour notice if you need your car. Forget about spontaneous trips! Again, public transportation is the way to go. Leave your car, use the metro, and walk! The hotel is very modern and chic. It's small so it's more like a boutique. With that said, rooms are not massive at all but comfortable enough for a good night's rest. Bed is super comfy with fluffy pillows and duvet blanket. There's extra blanket in the closet if you need one. I love that the glass window was big and brought so much sunshine in the room if you left the curtains open. We had a beautiful view of Chinatown and an open lot covered in snow. It was a pretty sight to wake up to! No safe in the room but it comes with a small kitchenette consisting of a microwave, plates/utensils, and coffeemaker all neatly tucked away in cupboards. TV and iPod dock is available, as well as lots of drawers in the room. I especially love the long bench at the foot of the bed that opens for storage! The bathroom, well, it's small but has nice lighting. I was stoked to find the basic complimentary toiletries to be from the Philosophy line. Very cool! Towels are freshly stocked daily and although the shower area is a bit narrow, I love the shower head they use and the fact that there's a mirror inside the shower. I don't know about you but that's really helpful when rinsing off completely. Ok, too much info! Muffins and coffee are available for free until 10am in the lobby. Haven't tried them so can't say if they're any good. There's just too many good places to eat in the city. Meanwhile, the front desk crew are bilingual and helpful but not all of them are very informative. Good thing the hotel has free WIFI! That helped us figure things out on our own. Would I come back? If I ever plan a trip to Montreal again, I definitely will. Location is key! read more

This hotel is in a great, central location in Montreal. Close to Chinatown and old town, too. It's a super chic and modern hotel. The lobby is incredible with the faux fire place, long couches, and ample areas to lounge. The glass wall leads into the dining room of the hotel restaurant. Super strong and free wi-fi in the lobby areas and in all hotel rooms, which is so key to tourists and yelpers alike :-) Rooms are clean and super spacious. Ample closet space, coffee/tea maker, and even a refrigerator (but not mini ref here with expensive drinks and snacks). The flat screen tv can be adjusted/tilted for your viewing pleasure. The bathroom is fully stocked with the 'Philosophy' brand products (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and location) Staff was friendly and helpful. We had lots of questions regarding how to get in and around the city, and provided us tourists with useful information. Great Montreal hotel and decent prices in an awesome area. Great central location near Chinatown, the metro, the bus station and a few major strips of restaurants. 24/7 service at the front desk and all friendly staff. The one who greeted me was decked out in an entirely Christmas tree covered suit, including the tie. Very festive. Rooms are small but very clean and modern. It was nice to have a modern, step-in shower rather than a shower-tub situation that floods everything - like many other hotels. They have a gym and terrace on the 5th floor. There's room service available from the attached restaurant. They do breakfast but it's not included. Only unfortunate thing was that from my room on the seventh floor the wifi was not that great, and it kept disconnecting. I found it ok for googling things but too slow to watch Netflix. I'm really sad to be downgrading my rating on this hotel. Many of my selling points are no longer relevant. I'm not sure if it was great when I was first there during jazz fest because of the high traffic, but when I'm not seeing the same great features during low season either speaks poorly of their consistency, or of their realization that offering certain amenities that made them "different" was too costly for them. The cool furniture and the decor is unchanged. This time I stayed in a bigger room, which claimed to have floor to ceiling windows. Caution that these are only limited to the corner. You have regular windows everywhere else. The Panorama room still has a nice living area set apart with a couch and its own TV apart from the main sleeping area. You can even slide a wall to separate the two rooms, although I'm not sure why you'd ever do that. The IP Phone system now charges for long distance. Even domestic long distance! 10 cents a minute flat, anywhere in the world is still decent, but when I used to have it for free, this is disappointing. The breakfast is no longer "great". Gone are the yogurt and all you have left are apples and muffins. The muffins seemed a bit stale too. The gym's water cooler was empty and beeped non stop throughout my workout. The cleanliness overall seems to have taken a hit. When I checked in I noticed some hairs on the wall of the bathrooms. Dark hairs! These guys are slipping when it comes to attention to detail. I know times are tough, but what hurts to me about all these changes is that this was the most clear sign to me that they threw away the philosophy of winning business by offering these bonuses. Now Zero-1 no longer enjoys preferential treatment when I'm looking up Montreal hotels. read more

The rooms are small, but clean and appointed with everything you could need for a short stay--except for a room safe. Wine glasses, cork screw, microwave, mini fridge, well-concealed sink and trash. We were very comfortable. Couldn't find an ice machine, but that wasn't a big deal. Visited the 24 hour store downstairs for water and snacks late at night. The concierge extended our checkout until 1pm gratis, and held on to our suitcases and car until 5pm, which allowed us to see a few final site around the city unencumbered. read more

Fantastic Hotel and staff. I stayed at the Zero1 for the first time for 3 nights on a business trip. The location is awesome and a short walk to Olde Montreal, shopping and great restaurants. The in house restaurant Z Tapas was outstanding and the food fresh and fantastic. I also loved the Pan-Am cocktail created by their mixologist and the delicious Brazed Bison for dinner.Eric the in house Z manager knows his wines and his service exceeded expectations as did Sophie (manager) at the front desk. Chose to stay here because it's so centrally located and it's easy to catch the bus (especially the 747 to and from the airport). Right next to Chinatown and close enough to plenty of shops/restaurants if you don't want to stray too far from the hotel. The desk is 24/7 but it was kind of hard to track someone down at times as there was often an extended wait because there was 1-2 people working. The rooms are small, which I expected, but clean which was great. The mirrors in the room had a weird yellow tint - not sure if that was part of their design concept or what. The elevator is slow (only 1) and it smelled terrible, I dreaded taking it every time. I didn't get a chance to check out the terrace, but that's an added perk. Not sure I would be back here again my next time in Montreal, but if you're in the city for a short trip this is a good option. read more

A very chic hotel! The front desk staff was very helpful in giving me directions different locations around Montreal. This hotel is extremely close to Chinatown and Place Des Artes (big tourist area with festivals every weekend) but not super close to public transportation. At the time of my visit there seems to be a lot of construction - I didn't stay at the hotel but I was able to eat at their Lounge which was very modern and clean. Breakfast had simple offerings of fruit, oatmeal, yogurt, and pastries with juice, coffee and tea. read more

Three words, LOCATION, LOCATION, and LOCATION! Hotel is the Latin Quarter and Chinatown districts. It is on one of the main streets of Montreal, St. Laurent and Rene Levesque. Easy to catch the bus from airport to the hotel (Bus 747) or going northbound to the Mile End neighborhood (Bus 55). Also, the St. Laurent metro station is very close in walking distance. The IGA grocery store is close to pickup groceries and close to other attractions and shopping plazas. AND the best tiki bar of Montreal is right across street from the hotel, Le Mal Necessaire, look for the green pineapple emblem. The desk agents were courteous. They spoke French and English. The rooms are small and cozy. I like boutique style hotels (helps me not be messy). The beds are built low to the ground, but my husband and I were fine with sleeping. Bathroom was nice and clean. We had HOT water for the shower which is a big thing with me. The shower is on the small side. Once, we adjusted the shower head, all was well in the world. I would stay here again, the location was super convenient. read more

I was really impressed with this hotel. I wasn't sure I'd be happy here because it has been described as being small and 'boutique' which can be code for other things, but it was great. I stayed in the Hip room, which had an extremely comfy bed, a ton of storage, a kitchenette (complete with cutlery, dishes, a sink, coffee/tea maker, empty mini fridge and microwave), a small table with two chairs, lots of lighting via lamps, and a very clean bathroom with a shower. The toiletries are from Philosophy which was a nice a surprise because their products are really gentle on most skin types, and even though I hadn't finished all of mine each day, my products were restocked daily as if everyday was my first. Also there is free, fast wifi in each room. I didn't give this hotel 5 stars for a few reasons, but I'd still recommend staying here if you can over look some things: - the first round of room service is very early (9am)! I'm sorry but when I'm on vaca.....I find it hard to appreciate the sound of vacuums and door knocking that early. Be sure to put out your do not disturb sign if you're not up for the morning round. A second round will come back a few hours later. - no soundproof windows. Thankfully I was tired enough each night to fall asleep, but at times it was a challenge trying to sleep after 12:30pm because the street noise pours into the room....and I was on the 8th floor. The neighbourhood is live...what can I say. - no in-hotel room service. Their website should remove the pics they have of a tray of food resting on a bed because unless you prep that stuff yourself, its not gonna happen. On the plus side, the hotel resto (ptghotel1) is attached to the building and guests get free continental breakfast each morning when you visit. read more

Excellent location and beautiful modern decor combine to create the best hotel experience I've ever had. The rooms are BEAUTIFULLY decorated in a modern fashion. The hotel is mostly made of thick concrete, so the rooms are VERY quiet. The decor is so good that I didn't even notice the concrete until the 2nd day. My wife and I don't speak French (yet) but it wasn't a problem at this hotel. Only one of the front desk staff was difficult to understand while speaking English (thick accent) but he was very polite and slowed down and used easy to understand gestures to communicate. Each room has it's own WiFi network (which I'm sure still results in shared bandwidth) which is nice, and more reliable than most hotel WiFi I've used. The restaurant had good food, though a limited menu, mostly inspired by Italian food (which was weird to me, as I felt as if I was in a French city). We had to wait over an hour for our food, which resulted in the server comp'ing our drinks. Calling the front desk was a little frustrating as I often had to call multiple times to get an answer but I loved the location enough to overlook this. Hotel Zero 1 is right downtown and literally across the street from Chinatown. It's a few blocks from 3 different train stations and surrounded by bus stops. You can get anywhere Montréal public transit system (and the system is GREAT) can take you, and it's so easy. One of the 3 train stations is even a large transfer station (Orange, Yellow and Green lines). My wife and I were able to walk a block and find a great hole-in-the-wall (on the second floor) restaurant in Chinatown on our first night. The hotel is also walking distance from some great shopping and many restaurants. A short bus ride will get you to the "Underground City" which is basically a bunch of GIANT underground malls that are all interconnected. If you're staying at a hotel for the service and amenities, Hotel Zero 1 might not be the best (it's still pretty darn good), but if you're looking for a great location, look no further. Anywhere on Levesque may do just as well, but the next time I'm in Montréal, I'm staying at Hotel Zero 1 again. read more

We were celebrating my boyfriend's birthday and while he was waiting outside in the 15 minute parking spot, I was checking in and when we both came back in they all sang happy birthday to him! okay hotel. it was recommended to me because it's located a block away from where i needed to be on st-catherine, so it was definitely convenient. pros: nice & bright & clean bathroom, good shower design, good shower pressure and very hot water available very quickly. decently comfortable bed with attached nightstands on either side and plenty of room to put things on top or in the nightstand drawers. microwave in room was SUPER helpful. neutrals: this should be a pro because its great to have a fridge in room, but it falls under neutral because its super weak and only refrigerates on the highest setting. an ice bucket is available, but the hotel does not provide hygienic bags to put inside of them. the bucket looked grungy-- who knows if it had been cleaned. cons: location of electrical outlets is not well thought out. no outlets available near the bed, so i had to plug and charge my devices across the room. also, if you're watching netflix on your laptop in bed, good luck charging and watching at the same time. weird room layout as well-- tv is far across and off to the side, and too small to watch tv in bed from such a distance. outdated alarm clocks have ipod & iphone gen 1-4 docks... not helpful for modern phones. the previous guest's 6am alarm woke me up and trying to turn it off was not intuitive. the color scheme of this hotel is DARK. if that's your thing, you'll love it! dark grey walls, dark flooring, very dimly lit corridors, tinted yellow mirrors... not very uplifting and also makes it hard to see at night. the location was great and it was a totally okay stay, but these details make me hesitate to book again if ever i'm back in montreal. read more

I really dug this place. As with any hotel, especially in a town I'd never been to, I wasn't sure what to expect and I did a lot of reading beforehand to make sure I knew the pros and cons. So after a lovely stay, I can tell you that my expectations were met. I knew about the pros and cons, expected the pros and cons, and loved the pros and forgave any cons. I feel like it's only appropriate now to list them: PROS: Honestly, for me it's about location. You have a couple of options in downtown Montreal, and so you should choose wisely. Broadly speaking, you can stay closer to the water and in the old cobblestone old school Montreal, where you might find more tourists but obviously plenty of things to see, do, eat, shop, and so on. Then you have downtown, but a little removed from that. Hotel Zero-1 is the latter. It's perched on the edge of Chinatown, and it's right on the corner of Boulevard Saint-Laurent, which is pretty much where the action is, as far as I could tell. I walked to an incredible small plates restaurant, past a few clubs, near plenty of shopping, and actually was able to walk through Chinatown and those small, pedestrian-only side streets to the bigger downtown hotels, and just across from the old school part of town. It's near a small open space, you have very late night eats a block away at the Montreal Pool Room, and I couldn't be happier. When I have to choose between tourist and real people town, I pick real people part of town every time. Staff was super friendly. I got checked in really quickly, they gave me the down low on the restaurant, and the housekeeping staff was really attentive and accommodating. No complaints. My room was pretty darn clean. There's a restaurant attached, and they had a Halloween party going on one night, so you may not have to go far if you're looking for an interesting time. No idea how often there are events, but at the very least food is at your fingertips. I liked the decor. It's not for everyone. It's very modern, a little dark (in the dark and fabulous way, not the drab way) and in pretty good shape. CONS The rooms are a little bit narrow and small. I honestly didn't mind--I was prepared for it. But that shower is just too narrow. And the showerhead is mounted on the side of the "tunnel" and not the end, so I felt like I had to plaster myself against the wall to get far enough away that the stream could hit me right. Parking is a beast in Montreal, so I knew I'd be paying. I don't recall how much it ended up being, something around $20? But the real con here is not that you have to valet, but that it takes 30 minutes to get your car from the valet. That's not hyperbole, either. They told me it would be 30 minutes, and that's what it took. Apparently the lot they use is up the street, it takes a while, you wait, you get the picture. I was very happy about my stay. Those are some nitpicky cons, but if they're a big deal, you might stay elsewhere. For the price, however, I thought this was right on. read more

Lobby- Fabulous Elevators- Smelled like B.O. Hallway to rooms- Welcome to Murder Town Rooms- What is this? A room for ants?! So the rooms are teensy tiny and the hallways are painted like a turn in the story in a Stanley Kubrick movie but for the price and location this is actually a really excellent hotel. Lobby is beautiful and there's a center courtyard that I failed to take advantage of but would go back to in a second. Located on the border of Chinatown and walking distance from pretty much everything, we loved this hotel and I was able to book it the day of for a long weekend stay. There was very little room to move around in the room when my suitcase wasn't upright but the AC worked well, there was a tv, a teensy bathroom with a very strange shower set up that could only be comfortable for Slender Man but it had a mirror in the shower in case you want to see yourself naked in the first and second person, or if you're like me and can't keep your hands off your face you can really go to town on those blackheads while you try to figure out why anyone would build a sideways single-person shower with no door. Overall, it's better than fine, the staff are exquisite, and its near a ton of cool stuff (and some semi-shady stuff but it's easy to avoid and I wouldn't categorize as dangerous). Oh, and the attached restaurant has a taco Tuesday happy hour. Very important stuff. And if you don't speak French its no big deal here. Parlais your Anglais all day, bae. read more

Really want to like this hotel... but struggle to truly enjoy it. First the good: - we booked a loft room. It was quite spacious although calling it a loft isn't that fair. It really just has a sitting area to the side... we didn't even use it. - it's in an excellent location. Close to shopping, old Montreal, etc. You can really get almost places within a 10-15 minute walk. Now the bad: - we found the hotel extremely dirty. It's not what we saw that worries me (dust everywhere, dirty sheets, toothpaste on the side of the bed, sticky hairdryer, etc) but what we didn't see that really scares me. - I have no idea what it was but there was a foul smell in the room and many hallways. Might have been chemicals but it was tough to smell. - the hallways and rooms were extremely dark and depressing. They were painted black... a coat of white paint could have made things way brighter. Stayed here over a long weekend in old Montreal The lobby is nice and service was prompt and courteous, checking in was simple and quick for me My room was a little small but very good , clean and comfortable .the lobby has a restaurant and bar called z tapas it's honestly amazing ! Great food and drinks and service in there I truly loved it ! If I come back to old Montreal I'd definitely come And stay here again ! The only draw back or problem is Valet parking as it takes over 30 mins to get your vehicle when you need it but other then that it's an -A - for sure read more

This hotel is below average. It's equivalent to a 80/ night hotel. The decor in the rooms is all black, which seems like a good idea but really just makes it seemingly obvious how dirty the place is. Examples: Toothpaste smeared across the bed, hairdryer was covered in hair and hairspray, floor boards easily moved by your feet revealing concrete below. Anytime you need anything from the front desk you have to wait in a huge line. They aren't staffed appropriately. So, I am going to try to review this as fairly as possible, considering that it's not the hotels fault that I was sent here against my will. To make a long story short, the Hyatt overbooked, and we were bumped and sent to this hotel instead. If you are looking for a hotel that seems like a doomed nightclub, you will be happy, if you are looking for a 4 star hotel, as we were when we booked the Hyatt, you will be quite disappointed. I understand where they were trying to go with their decor, I really do. I can see how ultra modern can be appealing. I just think that for that look to work, the furnishings need to be really high-end and high quality, this was very IKEA. The overall vibe that this hotel gave off, is of one of those nightclubs that open and close in the same year. It came off as cheesy, and considering the hotel has only been open 3 months, it's plain to see that a lot of their things will not be lasting much longer, at all. For instance, the sliding door in the bedroom is pulling off the wall already, there is no way it will stay on another 3 months. There is no where to park. You must valet park, which is 23 dollars, plus tip and tax... not crazy for montreal parking, but it's super inconvenient, you need to allow 30 minutes for them to retrieve your car! We waited 30, and the valet boy hadn't even left to get it yet. I would hate to get to my room and realize that I left something in my car. I don't know what they were thinking with the shower... Again, I know they have this ultra modern theme going on, but I felt like I was taking a shower in a gym stall. The shower was very narrow, with the shower head on the long side of the wall, giving you pretty much no room. I am not sure that a larger person would be able to take a shower in there at all. There are no king sized beds, in the whole hotel. Probably because they don't fit in the rooms... they are that small. We upgraded to the best room they had, which did have neat floor to ceiling windows, on the top floor, but the elevator was directly abutting our room, so every time ANYONE used the elevator, even 12 floors below, we heard this loud whirring noise. Someone randomly walked into our room, while I was changing (luckily I was around the corner, but still). As for the good, yes, there is some good... The hotel staff was very accommodating and friendly. They tried to help us the best they could. There were lots of "extras" in the room, such as wine glasses, plates, and I think a cheese knife. There was a microwave, and a scale, and some other kitcheny type things that were a nice touch. The TVs were very good quality. Happy to have an iPad charging radio too. Free wifi.. I've been paying for it, so the free wifi was nice. To sum it up, there are probably a lot of people who would like this hotel. I'd imagine they would be a bit young (not that I am old, at 27) and maybe be taking a bus or cab. I'd imagine that they would not have to care about a pool or a bar/restaurant or room service. read more

For the first time being in Montreal, it was important we were staying somewhat central and easily accessible to various areas of the city. Well, Hotel Zero 1 is pretty centrally located. It's literally across the street from Chinatown, down the street from Place des Arts as well as downtown, and 1.5 blocks from the Metro. We're able to walk to the old ports (maybe 10 minute walk), McGill University (about a 12-15 minute walk), and the local museums. The hotel itself is quite modern. The rooms are small, clean and "crisp" looking -- think studio apartment. There is a sink, fridge, microwave, table setting for 2, and coffee maker in the room. The beds are very comfortable and the room is equipped with a lot of mirrors (there's even one IN the shower!). So, if you're inclined to be vain, then you will be in heaven. The bathrooms are on the small side -- there's barely any room to physically sit on the toilet. The showers are awesome, they could use a little extra space though (no tub in our room). The hotel does have wi-fi and it's by room... first time I've ever seen this. When you check in, they start the wifi for the room and you access the wifi by clicking on your room number (e.g., if you're in room 510, then you would click on "zero1-510" connect to wifi). It works very well in the room, but we haven't tried it outside of the room. There is also a terrace on the 5th floor, which overlooks a small park. It's nice and comfortable, but fairly small. For us, this hotel was perfect. Lower cost, perfect location, friendly staff, and comfortable rooms. Downside: they do have valet parking for a higher cost than self parking. So, if you don't plan to use your car, then you may want to save a few bucks and self-park. But, there is limited space to park when you check in (there's 15 minute parking right outside the hotel, but all of the spots were taken when we arrived). We ended up parking in a garage about 3 blocks away and hoofed it with our luggage -- not fun. So, weigh the pros and cons on the parking options... There are limited options for public parking that is 24 hours (some were only available for 12 hours). Although I would probably try a different hotel the next time I'm in Montreal -- not because Hotel Zero 1 is bad or I don't like it -- it's because I prefer variety and trying new things. I would definitely recommend the hotel for anyone on a budget and looking for something pretty central. read more

This hotel is what I like to call low-brow high-brow. What that means is that it's trying to be/act high-brow (Caesarstone counters, white down comforters with no duvet covers (??), fridge and microwave in room (this was the Loft room), nice big windows and engineered wood floors, Philosophy-brand little products)...but really it's low brow, for the following reasons: --It has an "eco" note to leave towels on floor that need to be washed but it's not eco at all. It expects that you take room service with sheet and towel changing every SINGLE day, when it is not necessary. In other hotels I've stayed in, there is a door hanger like the Do Not Disturb that enables you to refuse room service (to save your sheets and towels to conserve water, electricity, and gas) or a notepad where you can indicate this. Here, no. In fact, we got printed notes on our door (wasted time and paper) to let us know that they couldn't clean (because the only option they left us was the Do Not Disturb sign). And then we got a call. Not only is this NOT eco; it's annoying. --The concierges are terrible for knowledge, advice, service, etc. One example is when we were locked out of our room at 2 a.m. because of an electronic failure with the door key. Really?! Really! Our concierge had to try like 100 keys to open our room with a key and then only use that key to get us in and out until the electronic box was reprogrammed. And no apologies or freebies for that. Another reviewer mentions getting late checkout for free just for asking; all we asked was for was being able to leave our packed suitcases in the room so I could change into pants later in privacy and to leave water in our fridge so it would be cold. We were told this would be $50, even though we'd have been out at 2:30 and there was plenty of time to clean the room. Every single concierge I needed assistance and advice from steered me wrong, particularly on food. --TERRIBLE food! Insultingly bad continental "free" breakfast--bad coffee, horrible pastries, yogurt. Nothing but sugar and carbs and nothing resembling decent French baked goods. We couldn't stomach it, so we were thankful we could buy less sugary yogurt, etc. and use our fridge. --TERRIBLE neighborhood. Got harassed by the same street addicts daily, and we watched many drug deals from our room window. --When we pulled down the shades (on roller chains) they rolled right off! --NOISE NOISE NOISE. No insulation, traveling sound so much it sounds like people are IN your room with you. Could hear running water/urine sounds from next door. So there you go. Totes low-brow place that attempts to mask this with some "high-brow"-associated features. I'd be hard-pressed to want to stay here again. read more

The location of the hotel couldn't be any better than it is! Walking distance from everything, few minutes and you are anywhere you want to be. A 24h convenience store right under it is a great plus. The hotel is modern, simple and clean! the rooms are a tad small but the beds are big and comfy, nice view overlooking the city and chinatown is nice. We were on the 3rd floor and couldn't hear any outside noise at all. Would definitely stay here again when I am in Montreal. read more

I stayed at this hotel at least 5 times. Amazing customer service ! I asked for an upgrade and they did it with a small charge. I also asked for a late check out and they did it for free. The rooms are beautiful, I highly suggest the Panorama suite. Everytime I stayed there, I never had any problem. Walking distance to pretty much everything. We enjoyed our weekday stay at this hotel in downtown Montreal. The location is fabulous--walking distance to the train station if you don't have too much luggage. The rooms have a clean, modern feel and are on the small side. We were upgraded to a suite (fun!) and even that was a bit small. The bed was comfortable and I quite enjoyed the plush pillows. I liked that the windows had both a shade and curtains so that we could better control the light in the room. Speaking of light--what fun light fixtures! We thought they were pretty nifty. The TV was wall mounted and had a swivel mount so we could turn it to watch from the bed, which was quite nice. There was a small kitchenette with a fridge, coffee pot, sink, and microwave that all tucked into cabinets--made everything look sleek. The lighting around the kitchenette was not the best, but still manageable. There's no real parking nearby, so it's great for people using transit during their stay but not if you'll be bringing a car. In terms of food, there didn't seem to be a kitchen in the hotel and the breakfast was just muffins. The line was quite long when we went down, so we didn't do a taste test. There is a nice sized convenience store attached to the hotel--didn't even have to go outside! The shop had a good selection and the guy was great, even a bit funny :) Staff at the hotel were polite, bilingual, helpful, and very friendly. They were able to answer any question we had with ease. read more
