We got as far as Bayeux by train but it was the off season and everything was shut down so we were having a hard time finding a way to get to the beach. Nothing was open anywhere. We wandered into the Hotel le Bayeux and even though we weren't staying there, the really friendly staff took the time to help us find a rental car and gave us perfect directions (all in English!) for getting to the memorial, cemetery and beach. We were flying out of Paris the following day, if it wasn't for their help, we would have missed all of Normandy. Instead, it was the best day of our trip to France. The location is great, the hotel looked really nice and if the rooms are half as good as the staff, its worth a stay. Hope we can go back some day and spend a few days here.

There are very young inexperienced people taking care of an entire hotel that offers free breakfast. The rooms are dilapidated and not clean. Amenities are nonexistent, and any problem addressed with the front desk receives the response "I have to wait until the owner gets here" and then you never hear from the owner. I'm not sure there is one. Breakfast is okay but the bacon is raw and put in a warmer with the hopes it will cook. Everything else is cold and you must microwave it to be warmed. Coffee machine broke often; ice machine worked intermittently. The rooms are better explained through pictures. Last day the cook didn't show up, the night manager was back in to cover and the young girl who was afraid of her own shadow grabbed her coat and left at some point. This place was expensive and not worth it at all.

A contact I had in Normandy made a reservation for me here, knowing my interest in local cuisine and ingredients. Sitting in the main dining room with an exquisite view of the French (English, to some) Channel and watching the tides' tremendous retreat, it struck me. Anthony Bourdain had been a guest of Chef Olivier Roellinger in his Brittany episode...which may explain why, at 2 tables, people were taking pictures of every dish. Gastro-tourism at its finest. What was nice about having seen the show was knowing the backstory. The attention to detail, the emphasis on local ingredients, the gardens, the locally sourced meats and fish. Even the simple country bread was memorable. We enjoyed a decadent (prix fixe) lunch, consisting of an appetizer, entrée, and dessert. The selections were seafood focused, with local Cancale Oysters as a highlight (you can see the chateaux from the oyster houses on the coastline), and various fish and shellfish. I enjoyed the "Mont St. Michel" lamb, as well. World class, exquisite fare that was fresh beyond belief...although classic French, the modern influences, even some Asian in a little lagniappe that we had at the start of the meal. (Yes, I know lagniappe is Cajun not Continental French, but although you can take the girl out of Louisiana...) We could not pass up the cheese cart (insert between entree and dessert). It's a required gastronomic experience when visiting northern France...Normandy and Bretagne cheeses are the best in the world, in my opinion...though my Norman travelling companion had a strong opinion on #1 in that constest. The dessert cart was a superlative experience...one could make a feast of that alone. I went for a mere four little tastes including a delicious pistachio confection and (for me) the obligatory chocolate treat. The wine list was pretty phenomenal, as I would expect, and we enjoyed a bottle of Chassagne Montrachet, a noteworthy wine to accompany an unforgettable experience. Indeed. I won't forget this one.

But the beds are comfortable, shower has great water pressure, and the staff is extremely friendly. Location is great as you can walk around town easily. Only issue that I don't think you can fix, as you can hear other rooms sometimes. Breakfast is good. I would definitely recommend for a few nights went in town.

So, how does one cap off this experience? With an amazing lunch, that's how! To clarify, your options are a bit limited, let's not forget this, but still, this place has it all! Good service, awesome ambiance, and bitchin' food! All three of us in our party were thoroughly satisfied! I had an individual pizza that was fantastic! My wife had oysters and some other fish dish and she loved it. My daughter had spaghetti and judging by the empty plate? She definitely loved hers too. It was great, really! For their dinner restaurant, please take my advice and spring for the more expensive prix fix meal - it's SO worth it! One night I had the cheaper option but - kinda meh. :-( But the 2nd night I had lobster salad, amazing rack of lamb, and yummy peach Melba for dessert. I left sooo satisfied and soo full! :-) One note, please ask that they be upfront and transparent about exactly which days their morning deliveries will be. B/c the amount of LOUD banging and clanging of said deliveries on the cobblestone street that starts RIGHT outside your room window on some days (Wednesday for me) from 6:30am til 9am is unbelievable. The racket is literally akin to having the drum section of a marching band right outside. If they had warned me I would have tried to have been asleep by 10pm. There is no way to mitigate the loudness either - no white noise machines or fans. Bring ear plugs - but even those probably won't help. Just go to sleep early those nights before so your sightseeing days won't be impacted.

They got to know us in just a couple days and made every restaurant reservation for us. Just off the lobby is a small bar that is well stocked and managed by the front desk. Seating there is comfortable. The breakfast is plentiful and excellent. As for the rooms ... we could not believe how spacious, comfortable, quiet and pleasant in terms of temperature they were. The beds were also excellent and the bathrooms spacious. We were totally blown away by the quality. To top it all off, the location is perfect. Just a few blocks from the city center, and as a result many restaurants. We never had to walk more than 10 minutes any evening for our dinner reservations. And, even the Bayeux Tapestry is just a few minute walk. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about his hotel in any way. If you are visiting Bayeux, stay here.

Reception staff was welcoming and pleasant. A purchased coffee and muffin were a quick takeaway breakfast and both were delicious. Overall an excellent value considering the service, setting, and accommodations.

My friend and I wanted to try a historically important omelette that Mont Saint Michel is known for - for the oddly high but oh well it's supposed to be famous price of 18 euros, we each received a five egg omelette with absolutely nothing else in it, on it, or accompanying it. Not even salt or pepper that I could tell. They do an absolutely wonderful job of whipping the eggs into a frenzy and the result is a very fluffy pile of egg, some of which was not cooked at all (most of which in the case of my friend's). Thankfully, a friend ordered moules and was willing to share her salty yummy broth with us to try and impart some flavor. I made myself try to eat at least half and I wasn't hungry for the rest of the day so there's that. Most seating is outside and there are birds flying under the canopies; gets a little dicey at times but as long as the weather is good you can at least enjoy the sunshine. Otherwise this touristy and packed portion of a UNESCO world heritage site is a big bummer and a little Disney-ish.
