We opted to try something different this time in Europe. Instead of staying at a 'drop-dead' "Have-to-be-there-super-luxury" ravaging Hotel, we opted for, what is commonly called a 5-Star "VEST-POCKET" Hotel. It IS a REAL 5 star Hotel. What is 'missing' is all the 'super-extra' 'hoopla' one finds at these 'palaces'.
We chose a 'just-as-luxurious', True, 5-star luxury hotel, but in the slim, vertical, 'vest-pocket' version without all the grandeur hoopla and fanfare.
SO, why the heck would we want to do something like that when staying in Paris? OK. Here is the Deal... Here is the reason we choose to stay at this particular hotel over the numerous other "over-the-top" super-luxurious majestic-hotels that we could have just as easily have chosen in Paris.
OK, ready. In this type of ("vest-pocket-style") 5-star luxury hotel, you get the exact same NECESSARY services as one would get in a super-sized grandeur hotel, just scaled down to 'daily, useful, needed size and function', all without all the extra layers of over-luxury that we would never use while staying in Paris. SO, why would someone want to forfeit all of those "extras"... fair question? For one, we planned on using the hotel to sleep-in and eat-in, and, not to 'wallow' in. We were not planning to "stay" in the hotel and relax. We were not going to use a gym. We wanted genuine 5-star luxury without the (for us) 'un-needed' fanfare extras.
SO, for us, for the same exact value, the money saved for not using a showy grandstanding monument, instead, went into paying for totally private escorted tours (no one else, just us, no group), that picked you up right in front of your hotel after eating a scrumptious breakfast right in our hotel. We passed through our functional basic hotel lobby, right-out onto "Embassy-Row" (all the European Embassies and Consulates are just around the corner in this quite elegant part of town). WE were also able to just step-out and dine and walked right into the 'heart of Parisian Life' choosing a different café to snack, dine, and sip, in, at any different time.
It gave us the extra money to go on a private excursion and dine at the Eifel Tower. It gave us the extra money to enjoy a moonlight dinner excursion on the Seine River. It gave us the extra money to, instead of going to a "can-can" dinner dance in Paris, we used that extra money to take the Chunnel Paris/ London RR for a one-day, full-day, privately escorted (just us, no sharing) tour of London in one of those ole fashion British Taxi Cabs, complete with "High Tea" in one of the London Hotels, then to The Tower, then, Buckingham Palace, then Big Ben; the works. We were never in the Paris hotel long-enough, except to sleep and have breakfast; so, for us, we put that extra-per-day, daily-room-$-rate of a super luxury hotel into, for us, was a much-more-worthwhile whole-bunch of excursions, all without losing one iota of hotel luxury, all, at a fraction of the cost.
All that saved-money, instead, went into exclusive private excursion tours enabling us to 'jump-the-line' "us-only" (no, not group, just to two of us only), and go to places that would have just, otherwise, added to our budget. So, instead of adding to our Vacation Bill, for us, we siphoned-off that money and put it to more-optimal uses that suited us.
Many told us we were nuts and should have enjoyed the extra extravaganza and stayed in those super grandeur hotels, "just because"... ok...just because "WHY"? "Just because WHY, for us, was NOT for us!
And that is our story, folks. So, feel free to line up onto one of the two "polarized-club" lines we seemed to have created:
Do you Choose Line A?
YOU two are nuts. You both should have bathed yourselves in super over-the-top grandiose luxury and splurged all the way to splendor and bliss saying 'to-heck' with the extra money. You are going to Paris, splurge and indulge while you take it to the max!
Do you Choose Line B?
YOU two did some perceptive discerning clever sharp-witted crafty ingenious maneuver. You got a triple-bang for the same buck; and manage to wring-out so much more, without sacrificing any essential, needed, luxuries, or, any required luxuries, in any way, by picking the K+k Hotel Cayre at 4 Boulevard Raspali, Paris, France, 75007 (telephone) -1-45 44 38 88 / wwwkkhotels.com
