We stayed in a family-room, which included a bunk bed for the kids, which is perfect for our family as the kids do not wish to share a bed. The room layout is a little odd, but we managed okay. For instance, you kind of have to walk sideways around the bed to get to the bathroom. The bathroom, shower, bath, toilet is all in one room at this hotel. Ours was 100% marble and there's a tv near the bathtub, but it was slightly high, so you couldn't view the TV easily from the tub. The shower was awesome and the tub is huge. The sink was taller than most hotel sinks. And the bathroom door did not close entirely, it wasn't lined up, so that was always annoying as my kids wanted "total privacy" when they used the toilet. The hotel is under construction, which means there's workers and crew improving the building, but it did not get in the way of our stay. We stayed for 5 or 6 nights (I've lost track), and only one day we did not have hot water, but as soon as it was brought to the staffs attention, it was fixed. The TV is a smart-TV, it's built into the mirror, and it wasn't family-friendly for viewing as the only people who could see the screen was from the parents bed. The lights were great and there's a small desk and plugs for charging phones, but only one plug for charging anything other than a phone, so thankfully there was a hairdryer in the bathroom. The bed was like two twins put together, typical for Europe, and the comforters were cozy. The a/c worked, and I preferred taking the stairs over the antique elevator, but there is an elevator which is unusual for Europe.
Upon check-in the hotel staff will take your passports & get a copy of it: this is normal. Your room may not be ready, again customary for Paris. Plan to leave your luggage with the staff (they have a room to lock it up) and go see the city. Our room was ready at check-in, I was pleasantly surprised, and it took maybe 20-30 minutes from checking in to being in our room, so I was impressed. Again, I was planning on leaving my backpack & hitting the city!
There's a gym here, I think that was a draw for us originally booking this hotel, but after walking 10 miles a day, we never wanted to hit the hotel gym! We also chose (nearly always) to walk the 4 flights of stairs vs using the antique elevator.
If I was to do Paris again: I'd stay at a hotel a bit closer to a major attraction for an extra $10-$20/night as you'll end up spending that each day for the train/bus to wherever you want to go. This hotel is a few blocks to the Metro to catch a bus, we sometimes found it easier to walk in to see whatever was on our bucket-list, and then after a day of sight-seeing to catch a bus or train back to save our tired feet. The Metro is easy to figure out and about a six minute walk to get to it.
There's a happy-hour at the hotel from 3-6pm, if I'm not mistaken, which includes yummy buttery croissants, chocolate croissants, pretzels, juice, and some wafer cookies, but we only attended once, as we were usually out-and-about and only at the hotel to sleep.
The staff at the hotel are extremely kind and helpful! Big kudos to the team here, as they are great!! They are very knowledgeable and can point you in the direction of whatever you're looking for. The housekeeping staff are magical and very caring as well. We found everyone on the staff team at this hotel to be top-notch! 5-stars!!
There's a locked security button to enter the hotel, so you can feel safe. The toilet from the lobby is under-ground, in the basement, and the stairs are typical of Europe: steep.
There's a breakfast offered for $10/per person, we did that one morning and then chose to go to the grocery store around the corner for less than 1/3 the cost.
There's plenty of restaurants within a block or two from this hotel. We found several we enjoyed and would recommend, and fun bars as the World Cup games (soccer/football) were going on during our stay and it was always exciting & lively.
The only reason for 4 stars is the layout of the room was odd, the tV in the mirror & placement was not conducive for viewing, and the not having hot water one day was unpleasant. Only one plug in the room was annoying, as it wasn't near a mirror. The bathroom door didn't close all the way & the walls are paper-thin, you could hear conversations from your neighbor guests. The location of the hotel is not prime, but if you knew that going in, you wouldn't be shocked, and could adjust easily. The staff are 5-star friendly & the shower & soft towels was 5-stars too. read more
