I'm leaving this review so other buyers are aware of the sales tactics used at Hyundai Escondido. Mind you this is my third brand new vehicle purchase from Hyundai over the last 5 years and I am just so disappointed in this dealership for treating customers in this way after being so loyal to the brand. Before visiting the dealership, I had an extended text conversation with someone identifying herself as "Christina" from Hyundai Escondido. During that conversation I was given a specific written quote of $365/month for 60 months for a 2026 Hyundai Elantra SLE Sport. Based on that written quote, I scheduled an appointment and came in ready to purchase the vehicle the same day. When I arrived, the situation immediately became strange. First, Christina was "on vacation" after mentioning over text message that she had already made two sales today. I was handed off to Jerry, who initially acted like he had no knowledge of the conversation. However, shortly afterward he pulled up the exact same text message thread on his own phone, which made it clear that the dealership was aware of the conversation despite pretending otherwise. After explaining everything to Jerry, we were asked to sit and wait. About 30 minutes later Jerry disappeared, and another salesperson named Adrian came over as the "closer." Adrian then presented a payment that was nearly $100/month higher than the written quote I had been given in text messages prior to visiting the dealership. None of the numbers matched what had been promised. At that point it started to feel like a classic bait-and-switch tactic -- quote a low payment over text to get the customer into the dealership, then change the numbers once they arrive. We were repeatedly asked to wait longer while they "worked on it." After enough time had passed, I informed the front desk that we would be leaving in 10 minutes if no one came back with the original deal that had been quoted. Suddenly Adrian came running back with another quote -- which still did not match the written pricing that brought us into the dealership in the first place. We left. For context, we were 100% prepared to purchase a vehicle that day, and we actually did buy one -- just not from Hyundai Escondido. We went to another dealership that was transparent from the beginning and honored the numbers they discussed with us. What concerns me most about this experience is: * A salesperson named "Christina" who appears to not exist * The dealership pretending not to know about the conversation despite having access to the text thread * A significant change in payment terms once we arrived * A long wait followed by pressure tactics and different pricing If Hyundai corporate monitors reviews, I hope they take this seriously. Misrepresenting pricing and potentially misrepresenting the identity of the salesperson communicating with customers is not acceptable. I still have the entire text conversation documenting the quoted payment and the name used. I would appreciate a response from Hyundai Escondido explaining: 1. Who "Christina" actually is 2. Why the written quote given over text was not honored 3. Wife and I were looking for a new/used car for the family and we landed on Hyundai. Its never an easy process or short process, but we were helped by 2 gentleman Gerardo and Trevor C. Customer service is absent here. The staff members are rude when I came to return my lease. The agent who was supposed to receive the car wasn't at the visit despite waiting several hours by phone and in person today. When another agent came, Efran, he told me to go to another Hyundai to return the lease if I wasn't happy with the wait. Rather than contact the lease manager who was in meetings from "9 am - 1 pm", he chose to battle on my dissatisfaction of having to wait. Unprofessional. Tried wheeling and dealing for a car but it didn't work out - fine, it happens. As a last ditch effort, the general manager, David Hernandez, decides to get involved. He tries telling us that somehow we're in the wrong for not wanting to pay his asking price and that we should not be concerned with the amount charged as long as we can afford the monthly payment. What?! He spoke over us and didn't allow us to explain why that didn't work for us. When I told him that he was, in fact, speaking over us, he got red in the face and puffed up his chest like he was going to swing on me. He showed us to the door and shut it behind us. When I signed off for the car she got Gerardo(Jerry) to help me review the features. He took a good 30 minutes to not only review everything, but get me signed up on the Hyundai app and their Bluelink service. We met with Alex Villarreal, with whom my husband had been corresponding ahead of time. He already had the Santa Fe Hybrid ready for us to check out when we arrived. We also explored a few other models, and Alex was incredibly knowledgeable about all the features. He guided me through a thorough test drive that really allowed me to get a feel for the SUV. At no point did we feel rushed. We even left to grab lunch with our kids to talk things over, and when we came back, we were able to pick up right where we left off and start the process. My son found a 2024 Mazda CX-5 with a little under 27k miles at Hyundai of Escondido through TrueCar. He was already pre- approved through NFCU so buying this vehicle would be a breeze, so we thought. We test drove the vehicle. All was going great until the saleswoman wanted to run his credit. We explained to her we wanted to talk numbers 1st. So she and 4 or 5 "Managers" said we need run his personal info just to make sure we aren't selling to a Drug Dealer or Terroirs. Like WTF? I told them fine, whatever. As long as they don't run his credit because NFCU already ran his credit to get pre- approved and I stressed that multiple times. Five minutes later my son got a notification from Experian, Hyundai of Escondido pulled a credit inquiry on him. Of course at this point we were highly upset. I spoke to one of the managers and he said he doesn't know why his credit was pulled. No one took accountability, No one! End results, he bought the vehicle but the people we dealt with customer service skills sucked. We encountered more problems with them but it's too much to list. I bought this brand new Hyundai Tucson 2024 at the Escondido Hyundai dealer ( never buy a car from here!!! No more) was supposed to have free oil change but they don't honor it telling me to wait for every 10,000 miles. But the other dealer in Carlsbad told me it's 5000 miles and they did the oil change for me! First of all, the car was leaking oil!!! Can you believe it??? It's a brand new car!!! And they have been refusing to do the oil change because it's complimentary for the new cars! For those who read this, can you trust this dealership and their services??? I had the worst experience at this dealer. They offered me 4500 online for my trade, then when I arrive in person, they offer me 1000! Then struggled to get me financed (I don't have perfect credit after being unemployed for 6 months), I settle for a loan, and via text the deal is made. The next day, I am heading to the dealership, then get a call from Brian in finance telling me the car we had a deal on was sold that morning! Sold the car from under me, claiming without a contract there is no deal. I had a text from Brian with the document that breaks down the loan terms. I stated "deal" and "let's do this" which he acknowledged. As it turns out, that was null and void as he apparently failed to let anyone know about our deal. When he got in, the car was sold by another sales person, and I was left out. I still get texts telling me I'm approved for another car. If I wanted another car, I would have asked to see another one. Used cars are unicorns, new cars are easily replaceable. Brian will need to learn this as I feel he doesn't have that experience in life yet. I asked to speak to a manager and that never happened. BEWARE-BEWARE-BEWARE: January of 2026, our 2022 Hyundai Elantra (30k miles) Lost Power while driving. Before their closing time, I called HYUNDAI ESCONDIDO, disclosed the symptoms and was authorized to have the Elantra Towed too HYUNDAI ESCONDIDO for a "Diagnoses of the Underlying Cause". At 7:30 the next morning, "ELSI" (HYUNDAI ESCONDIDO SERVICE DEPARTMENT) called me stating "the Electrical wiring was eaten by a mouse". ELSI then said (LIED) "because of the mouse damage the ENTIRE WIRING HARNESS NEEDS REPLACED". And ELSI said (LIED) "to Replace the Entire Wiring Harness HYUNDAI ESCONDIDO MUST PULL THE ENGINE & TEAR OUT the DASH--- the COST is 13.3K--- $13,300.00---THIRTEEN THOUSAND-THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS". In response to ELSI's statement (LIE), I communicated to ELSI "I will think about the Cost involved and I will call you Shortly with my Decision". But within minutes, and Without Me Requesting, ELSI Forwarded, via Text, a Signature Authorization for HYUNDAI ESCONDIDO to preform the work. Had I signed, I would Legally be bound to owing $13.3K-$13,300.00- Thirteen Thousand-Three Hundred Dollars! What I did NOT do was to tell ELSI we will be stopping in to See the claimed "mouse damage". So we arrived at HYUNDA ESCONDIDO at 9:30a.m.. I asked ELSI to see the "mouse damage". With her mechanic taking lead, she walked me to my car. Upon the mechanic lifting the hood and presenting to me the Connector with its' attached wiring---ONE (1) DOUBLE WIRE with Its' Connector. The Wiring had been eaten 1/4" above the top of connecter (not enough wiring to strip & crimp). I told the mechanic to give me the Connector. With some Surprise, the mechanic asked "you want this part"? I replied "yes". Being that ELSI is a "SERVICE WRITER", I Believed ELSI (HYUNDAI ESCONDIDO) was trying to RUN a SCAM against CUSTOMERS. But, I remained silent and told ELSI "I Decided I will have the car towed to my house". Then I offered to ELSI "I may just get back to You Friday and see about buying a New Car"! She was Somewhat Pleased with my proposition. I could have gotten heated, But what for. If I had allowed for HYUNDAI ESCONDIDO to SCAM me, Most likely HYUNDAI ESCONDIDO would NOT: "PULL the ENGINE-PULL the DASH or Install a NEW WIRING HARNESS". HYUNDAI ESCONDIDO Most Likely would, simply, REPLACE the 2 WIRE (2 LEAD), CONNECTOR. Maybe Clean the Engine Compartment to make it look Newer! Before having my car towed away and leaving HYUNDAI ESCONDIDO, I paid HYUNDAI ESCONDIDO'S Diagnostic fee of $225.00. A SERVICE DEPARTMENT'S JOB is to GENERATE $$$. Automotive Manufactures Allow a Capped Dollar amount per their Franchises for Warranty Repairs based, amongst other things, Sales Volume of NEW CARS from the Franchise. We know Asian Automotive Manufacturers ie... Hyundai, Toyota etc... Manufacturer their vehicles to operate for 300K+ Miles. Meaning little Warranty work= little Warranty Funding. Meaning SLOWER SERVICE DEPARTMENTS to charge for Added potential services.Frankly, I Believe that ELSI KNOWS there would be Much More Profit if I allowed them to SCAM Me. ELSI acted SHADY from her phone call to meeting her. With some searching, I Sourced the "Transmission Speed Connector" with its' Pigtail (lead wire) attached. The price without shipping was $85.00 (Eighty Five Dollars) via CONNECTORS.COM (Chicago). And I asked for 2 Day Fed-Ex which was $25.00. They have Every Automotive- Appliance-Electronic Connectors manufactured!!! Their Pricing & Service is Stellar. If there is a Connector Needed- they have it! I am not a strong mechanic. Yet, I rather EASILY Spliced the wiring and Plugged the Connector (on top of the Engine). It took me all of I5 Minutes! And, I spent $85 (Connector) + $25.00 (Fed-Ex 2 day shipping)= $105.00. I did NOT allow HYUNDAI ESCONDIDO TO SCAM ME for 13.3K I have my Receipts- their Proposed "work-Up and Photo of their mechanic holding the connector! Since 2021, they thier customer service and sales has gone way down. Recently got a estimate on what my Palisade is worth but it got sent to dealerships. We thought we'd see if we could lowers payments. From the get go told the our exact situation. 2 sales people sent me 8 emails or texts phone calls. Kept saying come down. And I explain things again. I deal with chronic pain sitting and going back n forth isn't easy so I really wanted to know after typing in numbers in calculator on site if they'd be able to do that. Then , they we're going to chk with mgr as they wanted us to come dwn last night, so at 4:15i said call me right back since we were changing plans to go down. And it went silent. Almost 24 hours later never heard anything so I guess they didn't want to give top dollar for a our trade with 21,000 mi. Then I answered the other person's email and filled her in, which I wouldn't be surprised if really just a AI. Because it was "Thanks for letting us know your experience." That's it. This is our first time buying an EV and it would've been nice if someone had taken the time to talk us through the set up and all the multiple different options and controls and widgets available. We got home, but were completely befuddled trying to set up the digital key on our phones. Hyundai customer support is only available on weekdays (really!?!) So we drove the 20 miles back to the dealer, where sales were less than helpful, but thank goodness for Sayori, the Internet manager, who reset everything and finally got us on the road a couple of hours later. The car has been on the lot for awhile and is kind of beat up on the inside, and other dealers are advertising below MSRP. They've since tried to reengage me 4 times, often asking me to go into the store to get a quote (which I consistently decline), and so far their best offer is $300 ABOVE the online price. Once they texted me saying "There's flexibility and we're typically pretty aggressive" before giving me an offer that was a couple hundred dollars above THEIR PREVIOUS QUOTE TO ME. I have struggled with the woman who answers the phones but I really like my service advisor, Brandon. More than once when I have called the person/people who answer the phones have been challenging. I've received dead pan answers with no solutions offered, so I'm knocking off a star for that. I tend to bypass calling, schedule online, and you're able to text your service advisor while avoiding the phones. I was due for a large service and Hyundai had my car done in under the estimated 90 minute estimate. My car was brought back immediately when I dropped it off at my appointment time. If I could give this review zero stars I would. I bought a used Toyota Camry SE from Hyundai of Escondido. They told me it passed their inspection and everything was fine. I even have all the paperwork from them saying the car was in good condition with no problems. Well, that was a lie, because not even 9,000 miles later the engine is burning a quart of oil every 1,000 miles. I took it to Toyota, and they told me the engine repairs would cost 11,000 dollars for a car I was told was "good to go." At this point, I honestly feel like I got played. Either their inspection means nothing, or they just don't care what problems they pass on to customers. We purchased a 2023 Sonata Hybrid new. After about a year the driver memory buttons would only work intermittently. I took the vehicle into the service department however that was one of the times the buttons worked. The service person stated that for intermittent issues they could do nothing and I should bring it back when it was malfunctioning. I tried a few times, but when I arrived at the dealership, the buttons would work. I finally gave up. However recently I took the vehicle in for regular service and when we got there, the buttons failed to function. When the service person named Elsi came to the car, I told her of the issue and that finally it failed to function at the dealership so they could diagnose it. She said they did not have the personnel to diagnose at that time. She said, "We would not have an update until tomorrow." I asked her what that meant 3 times and she just repeated the same thing. Finally, I said "Are you saying we would need to leave the car overnight?' She said yes. I told her that would be unacceptable as there is no guarantee it would fail to function the next day. She said fine. In other words what they are saying is I need to arrange to have an intermittent failure occur at the dealership AND when their schedule allows for it to be diagnosed. It should be noted that I was tempted to file a BBB complaint, but when I went to the BBB website. I saw the dealership has a D- rating for failure to respond to complaints going back to 2024. On a final note, about 3 months ago I went to the dealership to help my daughter buy a new Tucson. I saw that they had thousands of dollars in an add on price sticker for random add-ons. When I asked the salesperson if they were required, he said I could talk to his manager about that. The dealership in Carlsbad had the same sticker but it stated that those services were not required, and I confirmed that with the salesperson. All in all, this is not a dealership I will be doing business with in the future. read more
