They have collaborative partners which include Wayne County, the Derrick Coleman Foundation, Young Men in Transition, and many school districts and recreational departments throughout the country. When most people think about a Recreation Center, it's the gymnasium and exercise equipment that comes to mind. For basketball enthusiasts, there are three full gymnasiums. Also, the 18,000-square-foot weight area has several racks of free weights, benches of all styles, and a huge variety of up-to-date weight machines, along with stationary bikes, steppers, and treadmills. Additionally, there is a 1/8-mile track above the weight area. If you're into classes. There are gymnastics, yoga, senior programs, educational seminars, and Zumba to name a few. When you're done working out there are two locker rooms with showers. There is both a wet and a dry sauna for relaxing. Originally joined for use of track, pool, wet sauna, and whirlpool. Excuse after excuse why the wet sauna and the whirlpool are not operational. It's the whole reason I signed because they said it would be working shortly and 7 months later no dice it inexcusable. read more

I only use Hype Wayne, MI for the pool. The pool is great! Water is clear and clean, although it could be warmer. On the other hand is the locker room. I won't use the showers. They usually have hair in the drains and the curtains stick to you if you try to use them. The floors are also dirty, hair, again and just dirt. I wear water shoes and won't walk on any part of the floor in bare feet. There are five toilets, but one is usually broken. The "lifeguards" appear to be of one family and rarely move from their seated positions, regardless of children being all around the pool. In the mornings, during aquatic workouts, there are NO lifeguards. It appears that the owner isn't interested in staffing the pool area properly. Perhaps he's not aware of the lawsuits that could take place if anyone was ever hurt! Staff up and clean up would be my suggestions. read more

This athletic, recreation and conferencing facility is well run and ofganized. Reasonable rates for rooms whether you are holding a community event or a baby shower. The staff is fully engaged with the community. Pleasant atmosphere. Up to date exercise equipment and facilities. A safe place for children and families. read more

--------Warning do not go here --------- Took my kids to this location, for them to enjoy a good time at the swimming pool today. Before leaving the pool arena. I'll seen one of the lifeguards spit in the pool. Once's I'll confronted him, and the main office. They said it's okay to spit in the water! Also some other customer in the family locker room, was saying they peel in the water and spit. I didn't physically see someone Pee in the water, but I'll seen a lifeguard spit in the water today. After seeing that, this will be my last time going here. This place is awful and extremely dirty!!! Manger is unprofessional! read more

This place is cool. I've lived in Wayne for 36yrs and it's one of Wayne best attractions. I remember before the swimming pools were even built and they were just sitting outside doing nothing. Big improvements since then obviously, LOL. The swimming pool is cool it has a swimming side and also have a shallow side for the little ones Also, has a water slide an above-ground track. Weight room, you can have birthday parties there. It also has a banquet hall you can rent. The place is always seem very clean to me. It has a gym in there for basketball. Basically imagine the wonderful Wayne-Westland rec. center, take all the good people out, and replace them with children. My first time in there one of the workers was throwing a fit about how he was suppose to be made manager or something. It's was really unprofessional. Fast forward to today and months after I canceled my membership, they charge me $25. I'm glad I caught it because if I didn't they certainly weren't going to refund me on their own. When I talked to the front desk over the phone, they were very aware that this was a problem but just didn't do anything about it until I called. Not a fan. read more

The previous reviews say a lot. I'm a disabled vet attempting to get my weight and A1C (Average Blood Sugar) down for surgery. Today while at the Rec Center I was using the steam room and I brought my new waterproof speaker that I can bring in the steam room with me. I was playing a track from Ram Dass: Meditations from the Gita Listen Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONfFzaV4954 this was played low enough that myself and the other person i was there with could clearly hear each other without increasing our voices. As I was leaving a half pint with a Napoleon complex came in and said, "is that your music" and when I told him yes he abruptly said, "It's gotta go." The young man that had been there with me put his finger to his head and spun it in the international signal of Crazy. I said it's alright, it's just his ego, and I left for the pool. After about an hour I returned to the steam room showers and was alone. A manager came in and said, is there someone in here with MUSIC BLARING. I said no I'm the only one in here and brought him by the showers to show him it wasn't blaring. I told him about Lil Napoleon and his attitude. The manager then tells me about a their "Policy" that according to him states, you must use headphones as not to offend other customers. I told him he's lieing because i have been to the weight room and the pool where they have loud music actually blaring often. I'm trying to have an actual conversation with this man and another employee comes in, I guess for moral support. The manager keeps talking over me, then says I'm being argumentative, and threatens to have me thrown out. All he did was kept saying LOUD MUSIC, and i kept pointing at the speaker and asked him to quit saying it was loud because it wasn't. Then his story changed to a customer complained so we have to have you shut it off or they would have me removed from the facility. I understand if there was something loud or offensive. But there wasn't. Well here's my argument he refused to hear. This is AMERICA! People can be Offended. Whatever happened to men being men and making a judgment call like the police do. WAS THE MUSIC BLARING? NO! WAS THEIR ANYTHING OFFENSIVE ABOUT IT? NO! Have fun guys. So now when I use the weight room or pool and the music (Usually Rap or Rock) is blaring or offensive when I'm just floating in the pool attempting to decompress my back I have the right to ask that the music be turned off because it's TRUELY loud or offensive. NO I don't do that because I'm not a Pu$$y or a Douche Nozzel like the complainer. Question, I have some lectures from Alan Watts and others. I assume we can speak at your facility, so my lectures should be alright since they are spoken word. Oh as I left I asked the manager for a copy of the "Policy" he refered to. He asked and I gave him my email and as of 4 hours later He still hasn't had the time to send it. Or write it, I believe. If the Muslim call to prayer can be "BLARED" in Dearborn and Hamtramic I should have no problem playing my music at a reasonable level while I'm in your facility. Quit being Kitties. read more

All hype, and zero delivery. Weak customer service, and lack of knowledge will end up being the direct cause of closure to this dump. When it was run by the city, employees were truly friendly and caring people. With regard to the pool, I cannot even begin to believe how poorly mannered and novice the "lifeguards" were, as a owner of a business with a swimming pool needing a competent staff. Said owner should be lead to hire attentive people, however, when we were there, two lifeguards of three were sitting down and staring off into space, meanwhile, lots of young boys, and girls are swimming, right. The third "lifeguard", while at least standing up, she spent her time yelling at folks to take off their shoes, and ordered them to take showers. I believe this " lifeguard" was simply on a power trip, and could have cared less about her job, as her own kids were onsite while she was working, and must have been the cause of distraction. I miss the Wayne-Westland Recreation Center, and I know that I am not alone. Read reviews about the Dearborn Heights "hype", and the synonymous issues are customer service, rude, and incompetent people. This dysfunctional gym brand will be short lived if customer service, manners, and training do not become crucial priorities at "hype".
