I initially hired Joel for a small job switching breakers for my audio system, which he did well. However, my previous electrician had not completed the inspection properly, and Joel agreed to fix any issues, call for inspection, and ensure it was completed. We agreed on a price.
When he arrived today to finish the work, I asked if full payment was required after the inspection. He insisted on full payment upfront prior to inspection, while I proposed paying 80-90% before inspection and the remainder upon completion to ensure accountability. This led to a disagreement, where he kept explaining he was a company etc etc and he ultimately declined to do the job. My understanding is professional companies take the final money after inspection is complete and simple google search also revealed to not pay the entire amount prior to inspection.
Unfortunately, this was a disappointing experience. Sharing for awareness--ensure clear terms upfront when hiring to guarantee the inspection process is completed. read more
